to think that what Piers Morgan is doing on twitter to Meghan is harassment / stalking and he should be reported?

Fellow twitter users - I don't follow Piers Morgan on twitter but I've seen a lot of his tweets about Harry and particularly Meghan retweeted by others. I can't believe the vitriol he has for her. I've reported many of them to twitter as "targeted harassment" (one of the twitter report categories) but of course twitter has done nothing.
Surely his abusive behaviour is something that no woman should have to put up with? (but of course Meghan's hands are tied - she can't say or do anything). Why don't the police have a word? (because if someone was running that sort of campaign against me, I would be asking them to). Or at least twitter do something about him - shut him down for a couple of weeks maybe?

I hope the Duchess sues the arse off the kerb licking little arsewipe, he will get what's coming to him as nobody is going to put up with his low bitching

thistimeofyear · 20/01/2020 11:08

YANBU
From what I have read of his comments - he comes across as a nasty, spurned teenager. As others have said MM probably dumped him as a friend the more she found out about him. There is no law against that I believe. I have no allegiance to either of them but I do think just because you were born royal doesn't mean you have to like it or lump it till you die, surely? Especially if its affecting your MH - aren't we supposed to be talking more about MH these days.
That clip of Harry touting for business for Meghan's voice overs though was seriously cringe - had to watch through my hands!

SecretGuiltyPleasureLoveIsland · 20/01/2020 11:20

*Nope. A public figure is classified as anyone who lives their life in the public eye. She was a public figure when she was an actress.

She can't ask for a restraining order unless he's actively trying to cause her physical harm. Trolling her on Twitter is not physically harming her.*

Emily Maitlis got a restraining order didn't she? (I know there was physical contact too).

Causing someone anxiety is physical harm in my mind.

Limpshade · 20/01/2020 11:20

Agreed, and the Piers Posse currently on Thread 10 are equally as bad. Both should be shut down.

AllideasAndNoAction · 20/01/2020 11:39

I agree. I quite like PM, I think he’s a breath of fresh air on GMTV. Hes fearless and I quite admire him. He’s usually spot on about most things and cuts through all the crap.

But this thing he has with MM is weird and it’s getting out of hand. He’s obsessed and he’s just plain wrong. He’s being a bully and he needs to stop.

SirChing · 20/01/2020 11:39

They've set out why Morgan's current conduct is likely to be in breach of the protection from harassment legislation

Oooh that would be excellent to prosecute the whining man child for that. I hope he is prosecuted.

Please don't get me wrong - the guy is absolutely unhinged - I am just never going to be in agreement with shutting down speech which doesn't break the law. It feels really Orwellian.

If it does break the law (and I hope it does so there is some consequence for him), then I hope the arsehole is hung out to dry.

aroundtheworldyet · 20/01/2020 11:44

He’s such an odious man. How he’s still got a job god only knows

DeeCeeCherry · 20/01/2020 11:48

He should be arrested. Another man would be but PM is a celeb and wrapped in white privilege so that won't happen. He's free to troll sexism, racism as long as he likes, under the ludicrous stance that as she is a public figure, it's open season on a woman.

If any of us had a friend going through this level of obsessive stalking goading mockery and vindictiveness we'd be telling her to go to the police. PM wants MM to be a hate figure and to endanger her life. It's easy to wind up the crackpots out there.

The man is a fool, but a dangerous one.

As an aside I think many women would be surprised to know how many men are on public computers all day (at libraries etc) stalking women who are in the public eye with sexual innuendo and the most disgusting, filthy language if she doesn't acknowledge them. In my line of work I see them all the time and have to ban them. There must be loads who aren't caught tho.

As a woman I can never be supportive of a man who consistently harasses a woman, and I don't care whether she is rich or poor its not on.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 20/01/2020 11:51

YANBU - I usually like Piers Morgan (don't judge too harshly lol) but fk me, he's coming across as absolutely obsessed with her.
Needs to back the fuck off and go for a lie down in my opinion!

phoenixrosehere · 20/01/2020 12:12

What I do know is that people spout unsubstantiated shite all the time, and whilst it's bloody horrible, that doesn't make it a crime necessarily.

Wouldn’t it be if those who believe him issue threats against her because of the crap and things he has said. He has a platform.

I do feel sorry for her, but like all bullies if you ignore them they'll find someone else or thing to target

And that obviously hasn’t worked in her case, has it?

PortiaCastis · 20/01/2020 12:26

There's only so much abuse a person will take until they retaliate and go to the police and the lawyers because nobody has the right to be so vile and abusive so it's only a matter of time........

SirChing · 20/01/2020 12:45

Wouldn’t it be if those who believe him issue threats against her because of the crap and things he has said. He has a platform

Well then it might be. And if he flashed her it would be. Or threatened to kill her......or any other crime that hasn't happened......Hmm

LaurieMarlow · 20/01/2020 12:49

Someone like PM has a big platform and a huge amount of power. He should be required to wield that power with responsibility.

The unrelenting negative attention he’s given to Meghan (and Harry) is appalling in terms of the message that it gives out. That it’s ok to bully a woman because she’s in the public eye. That she should just ‘put up with it’ whatever the cost to her MH and if she doesn’t she’s weak.

He’s modelling behaviour that people are copying (including on here). What kind of society do we want to create for ourselves?

Dropping the Leveson enquiry was a disgraceful move.

Roussette · 20/01/2020 13:24

However, don't ban him from Twitter or anything else. Let his words speak for themselves. If you are on Twitter, remind him about the phone hacking cases and that perhaps Megan had no choice but to stand by her husband against the bloke who allegedly authorised his phone to be hacked. Remind him he may have tried to re-invent himself in the US as a talkshow host and friend to the stars, but over here, he will forever be the sad hack who helped to destroy a once great newspaper (actual news and investigative journalism from the likes of John Pilger), the Mirror

I do. Regularly.

I called him a failed US wannabe talk show phone hacking has been journo with a stalkery obsession with a woman who is not his wife.... the other day. That went down well !

newlifenewme2020 · 20/01/2020 13:29

I recon he has a thing for her. If they were kids in the playground he would be pulling her pigtails and pushing her over to get her attention

Roussette · 20/01/2020 13:46

I quite like PM, I think he’s a breath of fresh air on GMTV. Hes fearless and I quite admire him. He’s usually spot on about most things and cuts through all the crap

That's what people say about Katie Hopkins too.

The trouble is.... there's a fine line between speaking your mind and being cruel.

He savaged Daniel Craig for carrying his baby in a papoose, he calls Little Mix foul mouthed talentless dimwits, he tells men who suffer with their mental health to 'man up' and 'get a grip', he calls PTSD ... WNTS (whiny needy twerp syndrome), and then there's his 100% support for Trump whatever he does.

But if that's speaking your mind, I'd rather do without it!

Mrsjayy · 20/01/2020 13:49

And don't forget snowflake we are except him obvs are snowflakes!

LaurieMarlow · 20/01/2020 13:50

‘Breath of fresh air’ is fast becoming one of my least favourite phrases.

What it appears to mean is ‘being an unapologetic arsehole’.

hagenmeister · 20/01/2020 15:32

He's just not a nice person and the cancel culture he loathes will turn on him.

to think that what Piers Morgan is doing on twitter to Meghan is harassment / stalking and he should be reported?
Equanimitas · 20/01/2020 15:33

"Breath of fresh air" in terms of people is always an interesting phrase. I remember when I and a number of other people left the company I was with because the management was utterly crap: people left behind told us how the Managing Director was constantly claiming in meetings how it wasn't a problem at all and how our replacements were a breath of fresh air, mostly because they weren't questioning his decisions. Until the replacements turned out to be crap and the negligence claims started coming in ... Unsurprisingly the company collapsed not long afterwards.

So, if I were Morgan, I'm not sure that I'd take the "breath of fresh air" description as an encouraging one, really.

Roussette · 20/01/2020 15:43

I love that tweet spelling it out to him hagenmeister

phoenixrosehere · 20/01/2020 15:44

It’s not out of the realm of possibility.

derxa · 20/01/2020 15:46

So, if I were Morgan, I'm not sure that I'd take the "breath of fresh air" description as an encouraging one, really. I agree with this. Coincidentally Meghan was always being described as 'a breath of fresh air'.

LaurieMarlow · 20/01/2020 15:49

i agree with this. Coincidentally Meghan was always being described as 'a breath of fresh air'.

Um, in my experience mostly by her detractors who make it out they were all so pro her to begin with. But then she touched her jump/ate avocados or whatever and ruined it.

Roussette · 20/01/2020 15:54

This is in response to Piers calling MM 'a piece of work'.

Apparently this guy IS a Barrister and he's followed by 350,000 on twitter. He's a heavyweight

The Secret Barrister
@BarristerSecret
Maybe someone should gently direct Piers to the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, because this obsessive, unhinged behaviour is the kind of I thing I see a lot of men prosecuted for.
