I’m 45 - tragic mid life crisis territory or fuck it you only live once?

OP posts:
Incrediblehulky · 17/01/2020 23:06

Everythingnotsaved - what did you decide in the end? I'm 42 and am going to go and get mine done tomorrow!

KC225 · 18/01/2020 01:59

Tragic and low rent. Yuck.

user1473878824 · 18/01/2020 02:03

OP, I reckon if you want it done, do it, but it has to be subtle. And DON’T ever mention it unless someone else does and then be really oh yeah whatever about it. If you make it a thing it becomes a thing.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/01/2020 02:03

Never too old i got mine many years ago, also my eyebrow done and im 50 and still wear my eyebrow one.

Dogno1 · 18/01/2020 03:27

I had mine done at 17 and then again late 30s. I gave it up due to the smell (possibly only me?!), but it's essentially a wound that hasn't closed, and personally I found it being in my nostril it made that quite obvious on occasion (mostly when cleaning it/changing stud).

NightLion · 18/01/2020 03:35

It's not my thing, but you are 40, and should be past caring about what other people think about your appearance. If you want it, go for it!

Copperleaves · 18/01/2020 08:26

Approaching 50, I've realised I don't care what anyone under around 35 thinks of my appearance - as I will have been written off by them at first glance. Different generations will always have a gap in their views about fashion and appearance. Do I go around telling 20 year olds that a tiny animal has crawled onto their eyebrow and died? Of course not.

Incrediblehulky · 18/01/2020 08:29

KC225 - I dont understand your comment. What on earth is 'low rent' ?🤔

YummyChipCurryDip · 18/01/2020 08:53

Any age is the wrong age for a nose piercing

Agreed. It makes my eyes water to look at a nose piercing. I have to avert my eyes especially if wearing mascara. I wish I could de-sensitise myself.

DobbyLovesSocks · 18/01/2020 08:56

When I turned 30 I dyed by dark brown hair bright red and have had it varying shades of red ever since.
Now I'm verging on 40 I'm considering getting my eyebrow pierced and/or a tattoo

Do it!!!

Morgenrot · 18/01/2020 08:59

I've had mine pierced since my early 20s. Im54 now and I have no intention of removing the ring any time soon.
@Incrediblehulky I'd like low ren explained too. DP says it and will never explain what he means when I ask. I'm sure it's not a compliment, thoughWink

camperjam · 18/01/2020 09:04

I had mine done at 40 and no one really noticed it. I got a tattoo too so maybe it was a mid life crisis but fuck it. I spent the whole of my 20s and 30s worrying about what other people thought of me and it feels great to no longer care!

JustMyName · 18/01/2020 09:16

I don't think it's a midlife crisis, it's just a sign that as we get older we care less what people think.

I had my first tattoo at 33, my second at 49, and I had my nose pierced at 54.I love it. My mum hates it, but then I'm not keen on her taste in music or clothes but I don't bang on about it.... Hmm Angry

moolady1977 · 18/01/2020 09:24

I had my nose pierced in my late thirties and I still love it now approaching 43 ,it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks just smile at them .

Fullbookcase · 18/01/2020 09:25

Your nose, your business! If you want it, go for it!

Whathewhatnow · 18/01/2020 09:28

Re the "Mid-life crisis", "tragic" and "low rent" comments .... dearie me. Very WASPish & nti-feminist to boot. Go for it.

andyjusthangingaround · 18/01/2020 09:49

^^ This

Yes, you are old enough.
Yes, you can make up your mind
Yes, you should not listen to what others say

BUT! - the looks you will get! If that`s the level you are aiming for, then go for it! I would think about the WHY. Why on Earth would you do it...

Copperleaves · 18/01/2020 09:59

I am nearly 50, I'm on a train just now and in the light of this thread I put a nose stud in this morning. It's barely noticeable unless you are at one particular angle, and strangely no-one has even glanced twice at me - what kind of sheltered life do you leave if you would be shocked to see a middle aged woman with her nose pierced?? Hmm

Allcrimps · 18/01/2020 10:10

I love mine (mid 30s, had it done at 31). I doubt I'll ever take it out! It's part of my face now 😁 I took my hoop out to change it recently and I looked all wrong and naked. I'm in camp 'go for it'! Plus it's not permanent. If you change your mind you can always take it out.

haverhill · 18/01/2020 10:13

I work in a 'posh' school and several colleagues have nose piercings.
Ask yourself this question: who REALLY is going to care if you get one?
If it makes you happy and harms none - go for it.

movingdilemma1234 · 18/01/2020 10:14

I'm usually quite cautious and had never had any piercings or tattoos. However I got a nose piercing when I was mid 40s and now at almost 60 it's very much part of me and I adore it. It's a teeny little stud and i don't think anyone usually even notices and I'm not very memorable anyway!

pinkyredrose · 18/01/2020 10:22

I’m 43 and have considered getting my fairy pierced as long as the fairy consents then crack on.

Copperleaves · 18/01/2020 10:52

How old is the fairy though? She's not middle aged is she?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 18/01/2020 11:45

"BUT! - the looks you will get! If that`s the level you are aiming for, then go for it! I would think about the WHY"

This is hilarious. Are you yourself fond of giving looks to people with nose studs? In that case you should really think about the WHY.

I have a coloured Mohican (and piercings and tattoos! and funnily enough I've never received a single negative comment, I have had a lot of older/elderly women in supermarkets Grinsaying they love it and they wish they had done it when younger.

I have no doubt a lot of people silently judge me negatively, but I'm old enough not to give one single fuck about the opinions of people who would judge me based on my looks, and I don't want to live my life regretting what I didn't do.

(My Mohican grew out of a shaved head due to alopecia so believe me I am used to people staring at me. This may be why I no longer give a fuck about people who think I'm low rent, or the type of people who would use that term anyway. Feel free to judge my hair and body, and I can judge you back as shallow and superficial)

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 18/01/2020 11:50

I assumed "fairy" was some sort of coy phrase for some part of genital region - do I just have a filthy mind? Blush I can't think of anything it could be an auto correct for?

imagine going to the piercing studio and asking them to pierce your fairy Grin
