To think DS is very ungrateful

All ds 7 went on about up to Xmas was that he wanted a Nintendo switch
So me and Dh saved up to get him one and got 2 games it came to over £300 and he has only played it once he realised that the games are quite hard compared to robox that he plays all the time so he has only played it once and it is sat in the box collecting dust.
His behaviour hasn't been great lately so we've banned him from Xbox but he still has not even asked to play the Nintendo I understand it's harder but he can't even be bothered to try, I'm actually really upset.

I'm tempted to sell it and just put the money away till he's older

Why would you sell it? Just leave him to it.. he will be more into it when hes older but to sell it is ridiculous. Its your childs. Not yours to sell

My son wanted one for his Birthday, he is 8, and probably only played with it a handful of times, but I would never sell it as it was a present. I am sure given Christmas was only a couple of weeks ago, your DS will go back to it.

It's funny because all i wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo switch but didn't get one how is it my Christmas wish list still looks like a 7 year olds!? I would have appreciated it op

He'll probably play with it when he's slightly older when a mate comes round and plays with him.

Maybe get an easier game for him? My son bought his aged about 10 - he saved all his birthday and Xmas money. We got the 1, 2, Switch I think it was called - the one with lots of mini games you play against each other. There are other games with lower age ratings too.

He's slowly collected other games some are harder some easier. My 7 year old younger son (nearly 8) has only just started asking to play it on the last few months.

He's 7! Of course he's going to be put off by games which are hard. I don't think it's about being ungrateful. Which games did you get him? Did you research them?

Selling it would be mean. After all, as the parent it's your job to make sure his present is suitable. Either just put it away for now or perhaps swap a game for one of the easier ones.

7 is very young for Roblox too. Which games does he play on if?

My dd is 9 and got one for Christmas. It’s sat in its box still and she admitted yesterday she wasn’t sure how to play it (she has an iPad she mostly uses). Give it time.

You can buy games for it online. Mine craft is similar to Roblox. Also my son watches YouTube on his.
Just leave it. You’d be cross if he was on it all the time!

You can play two player on it. Maybe get it out and learn to play it yourself then play two player with him.

I agree with a PP who mentioned 1,2 Switch. It's a lot of fun to play together. Just remember to use the straps when directed. Would be awful to break a Joycon

He's 7! He has no concept of money and what things cost. No he isn't ungrateful, he asked for a Christmas present and got it.

I don’t think he is ungrateful at all. He’s discovered that it’s beyond him for the moment and he’s likely rather disappointed. Nevertheless, you cannot sell it as it now belongs to him, not you

He isnt being ungrateful. He is a child. The games are too hard so he has lost interest for now.

If he has been banned from the xbox, why would you want him to ask for the switch?

He either needs easier games, play it with him (I did this when dd wanted a play a game on hers that was too hard) or wait.

Selling a present, something that he owns because you dont think he uses it enough, is very unreasonable.

I got my 6yo a Switch for Christmas and he uses it loads. What games did you get? DS found Pokemon too hard so he gave up on that but he plays Minecraft and Mario Kart fine.

I think 7 is quite young for a console. My dd is nearly 7 and got an xbox, she plays minecraft occasionally but mainly watches youtube on it. However the xbox was 130 i wouldnt have spent over 300 on gaming for her

This happened with DS, he got one and hardly looked at it for 6 months or so, now at 8.5 if he had his way it would be an extension of his hands 🙄 just wait.

Yes I looked at the age range for him and I'm thinking about selling it to either save the money or get him something he will actually play with, it's not that the games are hard he has a game unopened he can't be bothered to try it's obviously different to what he's used to but when I was a kid I would sit for ages trying to do it. Paying over £300 for something I'm not going to hang on to it just in case if I said to him now shall I sell it and get you something els I know he would 100% say yes he obviously doesn't like it.

I'm wondering why on earth anyone would be encouraging a 7 yr old to play on consoles at all. Never mind worrying that they weren't spending enough time on one.

OP, I suggest you get your son outside and having fun in the real world. You might find his behaviour improves, too, if he's been running around and doing 'outside' things.
