To the woman who, as I crossed the road in the rain in front of her car at a junction, took the time to shout out of her window 'This isn't a crossing you know!'

I just feel awful about the 1.5 seconds I delayed her massively massively important journey

Anyone else like to get a sincere apology off their chest?

Oh gosh, I’d like to apologise to the poor English woman who visited my small charity shop in Wales to purchase books and who asked for a carrier bag. I am ashamed to admit that I asked her for 5p rather than breaking the law and giving it to her free of charge with my Manager stood next to me. Especially as this poor dear went into a massive rant about how she’s never known a town like it and every shop was demanding 5p for bags now, she was extremely pissed off with me personally (of course). I had the brass neck to explain that it is in fact the law to ask customers to pay for bags now to which she snorted gracefully and said ‘What? The law of the shop? Hmm’ I’d like to offer her my sincerest fauxpology for her fucking stupidity.
Before anyone starts having paroxysms of shock I am well aware that not all English people are like this ...

Nicknacky · 07/01/2020 20:39

Why did you cross in front of her car?! It’s not about delaying her, it’s dangerous.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 20:42

To get to the other side. I'm so ashamed of myself!

I have to agree with @nicknacky
Enjoyed your post tho 😂

Wasail · 07/01/2020 20:50

I’d like to offer an apology to the man who drove his very large premium brand car the wrong way down a very wide pedestrianised road and then needed to honk his horn and make obscene gestures at me for having the audacity to also be using the road with my feet. Clearly the size of his car gives him priority regardless of right of way and I humbly see that now.

Nicknacky · 07/01/2020 20:51

Soooooo, why did you walk in front of a car? You would have got to the other side when the road was clear.

Your not invincible.

wowfudge · 07/01/2020 20:53

You're not at all sincere. Can't stand it when pedestrians walk out wherever you expecting you as a driver to stop. Arrogant.

Lockheart · 07/01/2020 20:53

If she was stationary, YANBU.

If you walked out in front of a moving car, YABVU.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 20:55

It's you're

Also, there was plenty of time for her to see me and I'd had enough of standing in the rain while people went on in their cars to rescue people hanging off buildings, get to that meeting with Trump about the situation with Iran and other emergencies too pressing for them to wait a second for a poor sod getting soaked

Reallybadidea · 07/01/2020 20:56

You're not at all sincere.

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2020 20:56

So you walked in front of a moving car and are surprised she’s annoyed. I go to work on foot but my god you sound like a dick

schoolcats · 07/01/2020 20:57

I'd like to apologise for being observant enough not to hit your car when you pulled out in front of me from the double yellow line outside the school this morning without indicating. Clearly I was in the wrong as you stopped your car and shouted obscenities at me and the driver who stopped coming in the other direction.

I must also apologise for my smile and thank you, have a good day since clearly you didn't appreciate it as you proceeded to drive practically up my exhaust after that.

By the way, can I recommend Specsavers since you didn't notice that I have a dash cam and rear cam which recorded the whole thing.

Newmetoday · 07/01/2020 20:57

Don’t walk out in front of cars. Simple.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/01/2020 20:57

Agree with PP, if she was stationary and you walked in front of her car thats fine, she's just being unnecessarily confrontational as she wasnt going anywhere anyway.

If she had to stop because youd decided to walk in front of her though, as a driver thats irritating.

Lockheart · 07/01/2020 20:58

Don't step into moving traffic OP, especially in rain. Either walk to a crossing or wait for a proper gap.

It'll take you much longer to get home if you have to go via hospital.

CherryPlum · 07/01/2020 20:58

Do you drive OP?

Nicknacky · 07/01/2020 20:59

I don’t give a fuck that I spelt it wrong, and it does t make you look clever pointing it out.

So you got wet. Big deal.

Gosh! You sound bloody delightful!
If the woman’s car had hit you, you be quick to complain about that too, I bet...
Cross at the crossing/green light or at least a clear stretch of road. Do not give a poor driver a fecking fright stepping out in the road so they have to brake (this implies you crossed when it wasn’t clear to do so).

You’re quite pedantic about spelling and grammar too. Maybe lighten up a notch?

ShirleyPhallus · 07/01/2020 21:00

Open letters on the internet so are so awkward to read

JasonPollack · 07/01/2020 21:00

My goodness is this not sincere? I would never have got that from the OP.

I apologise wholeheartedly for also shouting at a car driver this afternoon. Indeed, I may have been correct, perhaps your indicator was broken. Clearly honking at me, my son in his pram, and my dog, was the completely correct course of action. Why should we be in the road blocking your way when you were turning. My heartfelt apologies.

MyOtherLifeIsAFairytale · 07/01/2020 21:01

PS. Bring a brolly next time and/or wear a raincoat - show some common sense (re weather AND in general)

needanewnamechange · 07/01/2020 21:01

You never walk out in front of a car , what makes you think a car can stop in time before they hit you ? Yabu

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/01/2020 21:02

You can be as sarcastic about it as you like op but if she'd hit you because you didn't want to get wet then you're going to come off worse!!

DesLynamsMoustache · 07/01/2020 21:02

Well OP says she crossed at a junction so presumably the driver was slowing down anyway.
