To the woman who, as I crossed the road in the rain in front of her car at a junction, took the time to shout out of her window 'This isn't a crossing you know!'

I just feel awful about the 1.5 seconds I delayed her massively massively important journey

Anyone else like to get a sincere apology off their chest?

I don't carry a brolly. i'm a tough chicken, me!

I would also like to add, your Honours, that as I crossed I put up my hand in the widely recognised composite gesture of 'thanks for letting me cross/please don't run me over'.

Obviously wasn't good enough for Mrs I. Owntheroad tho..

To the small charity shop in Wales poster - there’s no law that says you have to charge for plastic bags if you have fewer than 250 full-time employees.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 22:18

In that case, you might like to check the punctuation in your OP

No, because I don't actually give a shit.

I just assumed that with nickynacky being such a stickler they wouldn't want to be guilty of making an error while getting on their high-horsey to correct someone else.

I'd like to apologise to all those pedestrians wearing headphones and looking at their mobiles, who step into the road infront of me whilst I'm cycling

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 22:19

So many selfish drivers out there - I have noticed they get worse when it's raining which is weird since they're in the dry Confused

How ridiculous. Op starts a jokey thread based on faux apologies giving her own example (could have been anything) and 90% of posters miss the point and start bleating sanctimoniously about road safety.

Op you need to apologise to the outraged of Mumsnet and make sure you do it sincerely please.
Shame your potentially humorous thread got pissed on.

SanFranBear · 07/01/2020 22:22

Good God - the responses on here to what seemed to me a purely lighthearted OP Shock

Fucks sake, lighten up!

midnightmisssuki · 07/01/2020 22:24

Yikes. Dude - don’t cross in front of a moving car,
With or without hand signals. My nanny’s Aunty did that last year, and guess what, the car hit her and she died.

Catzpyjamas · 07/01/2020 22:26

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool ,I think that's only in England. In Scotland and Wales there is no exception for smaller businesses.

rosamacrose · 07/01/2020 22:27

Lot of fun sponges out tonight.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 22:28

Yes, I sincerely and truly apologise to any Mners I have offended in any way whatsoever at all.

It's disgusting, I am so so sorry

because I don't actually give a shit.

Of course you don't.

MaxNormal · 07/01/2020 22:31

I miss the old mumsnet Sad

Also, if I'm crossing a side road, as a pedestrian, and I'm there first, any drivers turning into the side road do need to wait as I have right of way.
That's how I pictured the OP scenario.

Tangofandango · 07/01/2020 22:31

NoCountry - "what a idiot!"

It's "what an idiot".

freddiemercury · 07/01/2020 22:32

Crikey
..a lighthearted post gone very wrong!!!
I'd like to apologise to the man in pret standing so close to me that when I turned round clutching my sandwich I bumped into him.
Oh wait...I DID apologise at the time and he just scowled...
Tra la la!!

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/01/2020 22:34

If you start a funny thread, you really should make sure it's actually funny Smile

unbaffled · 07/01/2020 22:37

I miss the old mumsnet So do I.

Sorry.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/01/2020 22:41

If a car is stopped at a junction to turn into a major road, and you are walking along the pavement of the major road, isn't it your right of way anyhow?

YummyChipCurryDip · 07/01/2020 22:41

To the small charity shop in Wales poster - there’s no law that says you have to charge for plastic bags if you have fewer than 250 full-time employees
What if it's a literally small charity shop that's part of a nationwide chain of charity shops like the red cross for example? They have more than 250 paid employees though not in that shop. Genuine question, I work in such a shop and have tried to find the answer before.

MaButterface · 07/01/2020 22:44

Unless its a zebra crossing, cars have the right of way acc to the highway code so you are definitely vvbu. And a bit of a dick too. HTH.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 22:55

People who end their snarky posts with HTH are dicks too.

HTH

OP posts:
MaxNormal · 07/01/2020 23:00

MaButterface oh dear. I suggest you reread your copy of the Highway Code before you make yourself look so silly again.
HTH.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 23:05

From Ye Highwaye Code..
Tactile paving. Raised surfaces that can be felt underfoot provide warning and guidance to blind or partially sighted people. The most common surfaces are a series of raised studs, which are used at crossing points with a dropped kerb

So that's what those knobbly things are called...

HoppingPavlova · 07/01/2020 23:07

as I crossed I put up my hand in the widely recognised composite gesture of 'thanks for letting me cross/please don't run me over'.

This can only occur if you are stepping out in front of a moving vehicle, with no right of way (i.e. not on a pedestrian crossing), and are willing to take a chance on not being hit, especially in the rain. Convention in this situation is to wait until the road is clear of traffic and you can safely cross without impeding traffic.

You seem to have the mentality I have suffered over the years with teenagers, who think the world revolves around them and somehow they are owed something rather than them abiding by requirements.

NoCountry · 07/01/2020 23:17

And how long does convention determine a person being soaked in the rain should wait oh wise one? While warm, dry drivers barge past, giving not a shit about the soaked person. If the road isn't going to be 'clear of traffic' any time soon because it's so busy?

Any decent driver would wait half a second to let the soakee get across - I do when I i'm driving and plenty of people on this junction do. This woman did when forced to acknowledge my puny damp existence, but she couldn't let it lie..
