To take my handbag to bed?

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/01/2020 23:48

Hi all,
I have always put everything I will need or want in my handbag, and taken it to bed, or the room I’m going to sit in. I am not in good health, so I like to have everything with me. The thing is that I put things in my bag that I want to put in a different room, or that I want to have handy, I don’t go out with the cordless landline in my handbag or anything Grin. My grandmother has always done the same thing, and my mother thinks it’s lunacy. I am never without my handbag, as I feel better knowing everything I need is easily accessible. Are my grandmother and I right or is my mother?

Are you the Queen?

PeachCupcake · 04/01/2020 23:50

This is such a good idea! My hand bag has my medication in and lots of other bits that would be useful to have to hand

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/01/2020 23:51

@notagainnnn no, but I have been compared to Mrs Thatcher in my timeGrin

Yeah, I do the same.

littlepaddypaws · 04/01/2020 23:51

up to you really but tbh i'd rather take dh to bed Grin

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/01/2020 23:51

@PeachCupcake thanks, why don’t you try it? I’m in bed just now, with my handbag on the floor at the bedside.

I’m similar. I can’t relax without my handbag next to the bed. I do have bad anxiety and OCD however .......

zoobincan · 04/01/2020 23:53

I don't take anything to bed with me, so o don't need a bag.

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/01/2020 23:53

@littlepaddypaws a handbag doesn’t steal the duvet thoughGrin

My Mum does the exact same thing and always has. I always thought it was a little quirk of hers - she will be made up to know others do it too!

Serin · 04/01/2020 23:55

I dont have a handbag.
I fill my entire car with crap though.
I could live off the contents of my car for weeks.

HairyFloppins · 04/01/2020 23:56

My handbag goes everywhere with me. YANBU.

hellcarryingahandbag · 05/01/2020 00:00

@dandas aww it’s the most convenient thing on earth! I don’t know what I would do without my bag!

Tinkerbell456 · 05/01/2020 00:01

I would find it a pain but hey, it works well for you so definitely reasonable!

BinkyandBunty · 05/01/2020 00:02

My mother does this, she's super lazy and wants to be able to sit or lie on her arse for hours and hours every day without getting up. She keeps it right next to her because even reaching forward to the coffee table is too much effort.

I'm rarely off my feet long enough to need a supply of things by my side, unless I'm asleep.

I can understand if your
health makes things different for you. But if your health condition is one that would benefit from increased mobility and activity, maybe it would be better for you to move around and fetch things more
often?

hellcarryingahandbag · 05/01/2020 00:02

@Serin how do you cope??? Buy a bag, it’ll change your lifeGrin

I always take my handbag upstairs with me when I go to bed. I like to know where it is, and I think it's recommended for security reasons too - If you have keys, cash, bank cards etc in it.

steff13 · 05/01/2020 00:03

My handbag (I think what you're calling a handbag is what we'd call a purse in the US) lives in the car. What is in there that you might need overnight?

BillHadersNewWife · 05/01/2020 00:04

I do the same OP. I do the same. BUT I don't ever use traditional handbags...I don't like them. I use more of a sort of hippy shopping bag :D I think this makes the habit seem even more ridiculous!

I always have it under my desk (work from home) and if I go out to the garden to chill for a while, I pack it again and take it with me.

I don't take it to bed though. What would I need in bed?

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 05/01/2020 00:05

You could just have pretty baskets in each room with all the stuff you’ll need.

I leave my handbag by the front door next to my car keys because if someone breaks in- I want them in and out as quick as possible- not coming upstairs and being in my children’s rooms looking for my bag and keys.

Cryalot2 · 05/01/2020 00:06

As I have medication which I take regularly my bag is rarely from my side. It has alsorts in it . Resides no one else can go in it when it beside me .
It comes to bed with me and I take it downstairs when I get up.
I thought most people did this.

Jumpjumpjumper · 05/01/2020 00:07

Steff13... What of your car gets broken into?!

Jumpjumpjumper · 05/01/2020 00:07

*if

highupoverthere · 05/01/2020 00:08

I have just bought a removable handbag insert, so I can change handbags from casual to work. I bought a brightly coloured one so I can keep phone, diary etc. in one place.

Gottalovesummer · 05/01/2020 00:08

Oh yes! Me too! In fact it's the only bit of decent advice my mother ever gave me : take your handbag up to bed.

It has all my valuables in, so definitely makes sense.

I'm with you OP
