To take my handbag to bed?

hellcarryingahandbag · 04/01/2020 23:48

Hi all,
I have always put everything I will need or want in my handbag, and taken it to bed, or the room I’m going to sit in. I am not in good health, so I like to have everything with me. The thing is that I put things in my bag that I want to put in a different room, or that I want to have handy, I don’t go out with the cordless landline in my handbag or anything Grin. My grandmother has always done the same thing, and my mother thinks it’s lunacy. I am never without my handbag, as I feel better knowing everything I need is easily accessible. Are my grandmother and I right or is my mother?

My grandmother had six children and no money.

She used to take the turkey to bed with her on Christmas night so the boys could make turkey sandwiches and she had a second dinner the next day.Grin

I reckon she wins.

I know a few older ladies who do this. I hate using a handbag but like the decoy idea.

This does sound bonkers to me but each to their own! I don’t have ‘a’ handbag and will just throw what I need in a bag in particular days, otherwise it’s just phone (essential cards live in phone case) and keys in pockets! At home phone is usually near me, overnight it’s on charge on the bedside table, and keys hang up hidden near the front door. Bedside table drawer has current medication, hand cream, lip balm, eye drops, tissues, hair bands etc, I also have a little box of these kind of things in a drawer at work and a pouch in the car as well. Passport lives in a paperwork file downstairs, although I have thought about moving it to an OFRS stashed in an ottoman near the front door (where the shoes are stored) in case of fire etc.

I just can’t think what I actually need to carry about with me - I’ve organised my life/stuff so that things live where I need or use them. I guess having my phone with me is an equivalent though.

This is my current one. I've been carrying it since August.

To take my handbag to bed?
Cwenthryth · 05/01/2020 03:23

Why do men not carry around a supply of ‘essentials’ at all times?

steff13 · 05/01/2020 03:27

They're ridiculous and unprepared?

LEELULUMPKIN · 05/01/2020 03:31

I've always taken my handbag to bed with me and had no idea that it is considered weird!

It would feel weird to me, not to do it.

transformandriseup · 05/01/2020 03:41

Do none of you have a bedside table? That’s for pens, books, tissues, hand cream, chargers etc

That's what I'm thinking too. I don't have a bag though and carry as little with me as possible. I have duplicates of everything I need in my car and work draw.

Luckystar777 · 05/01/2020 03:56

I keep mines about 6 feet away from my bed on a chair, yes it is a good idea. Imagine if there's a fire? I always am prepared, even in my sleep, lol Grin

People compare you to Mrs. Thatcher? How do you feel about that OP?

hellcarryingahandbag · 05/01/2020 04:33

@Whattheactualflock it’s my uncle who says that, I’m used to his comments.
