Friend has just revealed that when she makes a stew/curry/casserole, anything that can be put in the oven for a few hours and cook on low heat, she would do that and go out for a few hours.

I can’t imagine doing that, anything could happen. What if you got caught up, run over/injured honestly anything could happen and nobody would know you have the oven on 😳.

Have you ever been run over, OP?

PaquitaVariation · 04/01/2020 19:49

I do this, always have. I don’t think I’m alone!

Dazedandconfused10 · 04/01/2020 19:49

Have you ever heard of a slow cooker...

Dearymeop · 04/01/2020 19:49

YANBU I wouldn’t be able to relax

Thesearmsofmine · 04/01/2020 19:49

Well I do it with the slow cooker, for some reason I wouldn’t with my oven though!

feesh · 04/01/2020 19:49

I do it occasionally. It doesn’t worry me.

eggofmantumbi · 04/01/2020 19:50

If I got run over I think the oven (almost certainly on low for a few hours) would be the least of my worries! 😂🤦‍♀️

PurpleDaisies · 04/01/2020 19:50

This wouldn’t worry me.

RJnomore1 · 04/01/2020 19:50

My ovens got a timer 🤷🏻‍♀️

2020BetterBeBetter · 04/01/2020 19:50

Really? I know huge numbers of people who use slow cookers or else go out with their dishwasher or washing machine on which is the same principle. YABU.

BalancingStick · 04/01/2020 19:51

It's the whole point of an Oven timer... to turn on the oven when you aren't there to do it!

JewelTheft · 04/01/2020 19:51

I do it all the time, nothing nicer than coming home after a winter's walk to the smell of a roast in the oven

Thescrewinthetuna · 04/01/2020 19:51

Hmm I do this with my slow cooker but wouldn’t with my oven

KipperTheFrog · 04/01/2020 19:51

Dont do it with the oven, but do with slow cooker. Put slow cooker on then go to work for 8 hours!

Stompythedinosaur · 04/01/2020 19:52

I do this. The oven turns itself off after the tome is up.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/01/2020 19:52

You'd hate me, I probably do this once a week or so! On the occasions I get run over, the food just cooks a bit longer and is lovely and flavourful.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 04/01/2020 19:52

That would be horrendous, OP! 😱 That poor dinner would be totally ruined! 😭

Shockers · 04/01/2020 19:54

I wouldn’t go out and leave my oven on- mine once set on fire when I was cooking something long and low.

I would go out and leave the washing machine or dishwasher on though... and the slow cooker.

I’m generally not too concerned about being run over- I’m quite a cautious crosser.

ibblebibbledibble · 04/01/2020 19:54

Eh? Doesn’t everybody do this?

DurhamDurham · 04/01/2020 19:55

I wouldn't have done this when we had a gas oven but I wouldn't now we have an electricity oven. Strange, I know!

1Morewineplease · 04/01/2020 19:55

Why do you think most ovens have timers? Maybe so that they can go on while you’re out?
What about slow cookers?
I think you need to chill on this issue.

Wineloffa · 04/01/2020 19:55

The oven probably has a timer? Mine does, I put stuff in it and leave the house all the time.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 04/01/2020 19:56

I’d leave a slow cooker on or the washer but never an oven.

Ovenoff · 04/01/2020 19:56

Yes I've put the washing on and gone out, and I can understand leaving the slowcooker on, but honestly leaving the oven on makes me so uneasy 🤷‍♀️
