I've known my current partner for 7 months and put quite a lot of thought into his Christmas presents, picking up on things he has said in conversation etc and getting a selection of things he really likes.
In return I got a toiletries set. I am by no means trying to sound ungrateful but it feels like this is a clear sign there's no spark here from his point of view. I'm really disappointed. Not in the cost or anything like that, but complete lack of imagination or thought.

Sorry but what he gave you is pathetic. Many moons ago, I'd known one of my exes a matter of weeks and for my birthday she got me a CD she knew I'd like, a few other really nice things and made me a lovely meal.

Toiletry gifts are just Hmm

Seriously!

Yanbu, at 7 months this should be the best times of your relationship. He clearly couldnt be bothered. not a good sign for the future.

i think it matters whether this is a representation of his general thoughtlessness or just means hes bad at presents.

My partner is bad at presents - getting a bit better with time but is thoughtful and generous in other ways.

If he's lovely in otherways you have to decide if it's a deal breaker.

I've had other partners who were amazing gift buyers but rubbish in other ways my much more practical partner is great at.

I’m kind of all or nothing. My husband and I spent our first Christmas together after being together only 3 months and did each other stockings and got each other the best gifts we could afford. It was a new relationship but We both wanted to show how much we cared

I have had previous boy friends who have been awful at gifting. Money isn’t the thing - it’s lack of thought

Not overreacting but I think it's difficult to read too much into it at this stage.

First Christmas together DH got me a frying pan!! Oh the disappointment!

But we've been together now over 30 years, he's much better at presents now, and more to the point he is an amazing, kind, strong person who's a fantastic dad too.
