AIBU?

AIBU to ask you about my Christmas outfit?

I am thinking about wearing a wool skirt with red and green checks, woolen jumper/cardigan (Navy), wool tights (navy), pearl ear studs.... pearl wristband.
Does wearing a very visible watch at Christmas look stupid (like you cannot wait to get away from people)?

Should I wear this with shoes or boots? How about black ones that look like riding boots?

What kind of coat or jacket? Log all weather coat/jacket, Trenchcoat, light down jacket? (I guess my Camouflage Parka is not a good idea)

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

I think posting this in AIBU is asking for trouble.

honeylulu · 25/12/2019 00:18

Are you a minor royal or imagining yourself as a character in a Julian Fellowes novel/screenplay? Or perhaps head girl of an esteemed alma mater?
Outfit sounds hideous and very horsey/doggy. I am picturing you affixing a black velvet alice band to your head to finish the outfit.

AwakeAmbs · 25/12/2019 00:49

Are you in the royal family? Crown Shock

AwakeAmbs · 25/12/2019 00:51

Apologies, didn’t mean to sound rude above. I think you should dress how you are comfortable..it sounds quite formal but definitely smart and nice for a visit at Xmas.

birdsarecute45 · 25/12/2019 09:19

I can understand that the OP has an IL family to whom a certain style or appearance matters (and to all those who snigger at thuis- everyoine does..... some of us are in family situations where if you turned up to Christmas unwashed and in a tracksuit you would be dressed inappropriately, and others are in families that if you dressed up a bit you would be sniggered about - I had the latter... if i tried to make an effort (clean hair at a minimum - I was sneered at).

What we wear matters and essentially it is a costume. The OP is asking for advice because clearly it matters to her, and the people with whom she is spending the day.

All this sniggering about royal families and all that (I recognise Awake you apologised) it's just rude. We have costumes to fit into the situation we find ourselves in. I'm at home today with just the DS 1 and 2 and DH. I will shower, make myself up and wear clothes i feel comfortable with. If we were with DH's side of the family today I would probably dress exactly as the OP is planning- but only if the skirt was sufficiently robust to hide my stomach. If I were with my mother's side of the family and I wore that they would - literally- verbally attack me for being a snob and up myself. So I'd wear jeans and whatever top I thought I could get away with.

OP I hope you have a wonderful day, and that everything goes well. I also hope you get compliments on an outfit you have taken the time to think about.

Oh and Merry Christmas everyone. It's the season to take the piss out of people apparently.

sonjadog · 25/12/2019 09:35

A lot of nasty posters having a go at the OP for having a different fashion sense to them here. Merry Christmas everyone. May people poke fun at your special outfit today too.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 25/12/2019 09:46

Try not to worry too much about it, wear what you're comfortable in. I wouldn't care what the in laws think, they don't get to decide what's appropriate.

OhHolyNightWaking · 25/12/2019 09:48

Meghan, is that you? I thought you were in Canada this year!

NameChangeNugget · 25/12/2019 10:08

Are you off to Sandringham?

Bodear · 25/12/2019 23:45

Hey OP hope you had a great day and managed to feel comfortable in whatever you wore

user1494182820 · 26/12/2019 00:18

Who worries this much about a "Christmas outfit"? That's not even a thing. Wear whatever is comfy and stop stressing about things that don't matter.

ferntwist · 26/12/2019 05:55

Of course a Christmas outfit is a thing. It’s a special day with socialising for most of us. @user1494182820 you’re being bitchy.

thickwoollytights · 26/12/2019 06:02

Great post @birdsarecute45

AIBU can be bloody brutal.

@flying - I hope whatever you chose to wear was fine. And a watch is good any time Thanks

FamilyOfAliens · 26/12/2019 22:27

@birdsarecute45

If the OP wanted a critical analysis of her outfit vis-a-vis current fashion trends, S&B is the board for that. AIBU is the board where people say what they think, no holds barred.

milliefiori · 26/12/2019 22:32

OP, people are being really mocking. If you posted this in Style and Beauty people would critique the outfit without sneering.

I love the sound of the skirt and pearls. Why not look traditional at Christmas? Hope you had a good time.
