Happy Impeachment! Next step is removal. (Trump thread 98)

In the last thread, Trump was impeached by Congress. Now the question is when the articles will be sent to the Senate for Trial, as - at this stage - there is no guarantee from Mitch McConnell of a fair trial. Trump clings to his belief that his call to Zelensky was “perfect”.

Very worrying. I have no faith in Trump who I doubt has an understanding of the situation over there, given he ignores intel briefings and doesn't listen to advisers.

Plus... there is a tweet for everything...

Here

'I predict that OBama will attack Iran in order to save face'
Don't let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected. Be careful Republicans'
'Now that Obama's numbers are in tailspin, watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate!'
'Obama will attack Iran in the not too distant future because it will help him get re-elected'

lionheart · 03/01/2020 10:02

Well, he certainly needs to 'wag the dog' and we know he hasn't a clue about what he's doing.

Lweji · 03/01/2020 11:22

I don't think he'll be as clever about starting a war like baby Bush Cheney with Iran. It could well backfire, like Vietnam.

Lweji · 03/01/2020 11:23

Also, interesting how the rule still stands. For everything Trump does or says, there will be the opposite in his tweet history.

Just this

About to start another Middle Eastern war? God help Boris if he joins in like Tony Blair did

PerkingFaintly · 03/01/2020 13:21

Yeah, it's not so much an opposite tweet, as projection. He tells us how he thinks and acts.

I've been really concerned all along that he'll"wag the dog" to take the heat off himself. He's very predictable on the large scale; close-up details may vary.

Roussette · 03/01/2020 13:22

I hope BoJo stays in Mustique floating about on a blow up armchair in his pool, for now

yolofish · 03/01/2020 13:25

I'm hoping BoJo is too pissed to take the call from SCROTUS, thus at least buying a little bit of time for the grown ups to organise a military coup or something, anything, really.

AGnu · 03/01/2020 13:39

I can't get my head around what's going on in Trump's tiny brain that made him think this was a good idea. He instructed someone to murder a high profile person from one country in another country because... he's a baddie?! Are there not international laws against this kind of thing?

I'd have thought the "normal" thing to do would be to arrange a lone gunman who could be said to be "acting alone" or arrange for the target to inexplicably have a heart attack or something. That's assuming they actually thought the bloke was planning major attacks. You don't send a drone to fire rockets at cars. It's way too unsubtle.

Also, why did no-one stop him or convince him it wasn't a good idea. I'm sure he could've been distracted with something shiny or some sweeties. Maybe organise him another rally... Anything to avoid him creating a major diplomatic incident!

Would it be catastrophising to think this could kick off WWIII?! I really hope BoJo has enough sense to see this would be unpopular with the British public... Although he doesn't need to worry about winning another election for years yet so he'll probably do whatever he wants anyway.

PerkingFaintly · 03/01/2020 13:43

Well Johnson needn't bother with a dodgy dossier. If he wants to play, he has Dom Cummings to knock up a load of FUD-inducing memes (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt) so Boris-the-Brave can have his chance to play the hero.Angry

It'd be like watching Churchill being played on telly by Oliver Hardy (Cummings being Laurel).

I can only hope Johnson is too lazy to bother getting the UK involved and decides there's no angle in it for him.

Of course, the UK will get the blowback in the form of increased terrorism whether we get involved or no.Sad

Roussette · 03/01/2020 14:13

The trouble is... we are in a weak and vulnerable position - needing a US trade deal. This spells trouble.

This is a huge huge test for Johnson. Will he stand with the EU or the US?

What on earth is going to happen to Nazanin Ratcliffe. BoJo has let her down once, can't imagine him fighting for her release from prison in Iran

Lweji · 03/01/2020 14:23

But the UK still needs to be in good terms with the EU.

And it's an internal NATO issue too.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2020 14:26

This 'strike' doesn't surprise me in the least. In fact, I expect to see other such 'strikes' along with other 'loud bangs and bright flashes' in the coming 11 months.

Start a war? I don't think that's the actual intention, but then again Scrotus can't think beyond his next Happy Meal, let alone that violent actions often have violent consequences. Not that he'd care if there was a terrorist attack or a war in retaliation either here or elsewhere in the world if his actions raise his poll numbers.

He and his ilk are, for the most part, well insulated in their gated communities and exclusive clubs from the types of terroristic events (knifings, shootings in public places, attacks on military bases) we're seeing these days. And it's highly unlikely that any of them or their children will run off to join the military or otherwise place themselves in danger.

That Trump inherited a reigned-in Iran, that he set in motion an escalation to war because he thought it would benefit HIM.

Not too dissimilar to NK. Or even China, who he started antagonising with tariffs.

Lweji · 03/01/2020 20:29

Just as long as Iran leaves MN alone...

Rachel.

lionheart · 03/01/2020 22:45

Pence is trying to say that Iran helped with 9/11.

No evidence in the 9/11 commission report but hey ho.

lionheart · 03/01/2020 22:47

WWIII is trending on the Twitterverse (but will probably be knocked off the No.1 spot by some sporting thingummy or other)

'Til then more Gin.

lionheart · 03/01/2020 22:49

This must be why he's been bleating about the Democrats trying to remove the God part from the court oath and how he's going to sort out prayers and schools.

Okay then:

Secretary Pompeo
@SecPompeo

'Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and I discussed the decisive defensive action @realDonaldTrump employed in Baghdad to protect American lives. I emphasized that de-escalation is the United States’ principal goal.'
