Boris Watch - Thread 1

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:11

Well, it's been done for Trump since he got elected.
No doubt some people will complain it's on AIBU - but it's a place with traffic.

So let's use this to keep an eye on the changes under Boris.

First Thing:

Boris introduces clause in the withdrawal agreement so the UK must leave with WTO rules if there is no trade agreement with the EU by the end of 2020

www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/17/pound-slides-to-pre-election-levels-in-wake-of-bid-to-outlaw-brexit-extension

Feel free to comment and add things that you notice changing. The Trump threads are at 97 now.

Trump? YABU, pretty mainstream politician with a massive majority of largely sensible voters. Not unintelligent, either.

Jellykat · 17/12/2019 20:19

Great idea, we need to watch the slippery bastard like a hawk.
Him and his cronies are going to be sneaking all sorts of crap through, which probably wont make it to mainstream media.. so anything any of us find out, can be shared here!

ChristmassySpice · 17/12/2019 20:23

I'm with you, OP.
I so wanted to disengage. Go and live in a field and pretend this all wasn't happening.
But I can't. It is. And I'm sick of people pretending otherwise.

ListeningQuietly · 17/12/2019 20:24

Farage burned his bridges when he ripped off all of his PPCs for £750 in fees and then did not let them stand

Boris now has to come good on his promises (a first)

Donald has to cope with a bigger bullshitter than himself

Vladimir has to work out who to play off against who

ChristmassySpice · 17/12/2019 20:27

You have to wonder why a poster would include the word Pleb in their user name..

Direduldrums · 17/12/2019 20:33

Great thread...place marking

borntobequiet · 17/12/2019 20:33

Good idea. Many thanks for the thread.

BestIsWest · 17/12/2019 20:36

Thanks

Smelborp · 17/12/2019 20:42

I also want to join in the thread. Worrying times.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 17/12/2019 20:44

This thread is totally needed. I don’t care if it makes me a bitter leftie- or whatever other insults the Johnsonisters want to throw- the man is a liar and a fraud and we will do well to have somewhere to catalogue the things that he does so that we don’t forget his previous form.

frumpety · 17/12/2019 20:47

Boris's promises which got him elected. I am sure he will not deviate one iota from any of them. Other than the Net Zero by 2050 promise , the others oddly don't have a time frame ? I am sure he means during his time in office though, doesn't he ?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/12/2019 20:55

Pmk, thanks OP

HeIenaDove · 17/12/2019 21:00

"Boris going after the BBC via it's revenue - decriminalizing not paying licence fee"

So much for them crawling to the Tories re. election then. Worked out well for them.......................oh wait

Iamagree · 17/12/2019 21:00

Thanks OP, I'll be watching the thread too. I feel it's going to be a short honeymoon for the newly elected populist Tories

HeIenaDove · 17/12/2019 21:05

Why on earth should this thread be moved when the Trump ones have been here for three years.

yolofish · 17/12/2019 21:05

Oh and please let's not forget poor Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her family...

HeIenaDove · 17/12/2019 21:09

Before the election, publicity for the ITV broadcast of my film, The Dirty War on the NHS, was subject to an embargo at the very time that the film's theme, the sell-off of the NHS, was at the forefront of British politics. The ITV broadcast is now on Tuesday 17 Dec, at 10.45pm

YABU - This belongs in Politics. If you don't get the traffic you crave there then maybe it's because people are bored of talking politics in the Mumsnet echo chamber.

There is nothing more nauseating than someone so self centred that they think that if they are not interested in something then everyone must feel that way. Read what interests you, don’t read what doesn’t interest with you.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 21:25

Speaking of the Russian report, it's been cleared by Johnson for release - once the Intelligence Security Commitee is reconvened.

This thread is very necessary. If you don’t like, don’t open it.

Aryaneedle · 17/12/2019 21:27

Interesting that the thread was called left wing propaganda already too.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 21:30

Indeed. All links are from actual things that have happened or have been shown to be happening. There's even some positive ones for Johnson as he has said he will put into leglisation about the NHS funding.

I will be surprised if they keep up the boycott of the Today programme.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 17/12/2019 21:46

The Tory boycott of the Today programme could backfire on them. I know he's now gone but they had Humphreys giving them a free ride. They won't get the same exposure with a boycott.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 21:50

They won't get the same exposure with a boycott

I wonder if the BBC will reciprocate and not allow Ministers on the big shows like Newsnight and Marr until they appear on the Today programme?

I am sure that when the Opposition gets its act together and starts getting its message across on the 8.10 slot, then the Conservatives will want some of that airtime
