Hermes have "returned" my parcel at my request?!

Crazyoldmaurice · 08/12/2019 19:42

I ordered 2 items that were going very cheap from studio on 28th November. Have been waiting all this time to have them delivered. Finally got an email this morning saying Hermes would deliver tonight from between 6-8pm. Just checked the tracking now only for it to say

"Update on your parcel. You've asked us to return your parcel to the sender - it's on the way back"

I did nothing of the sort! Now the items have sold out online so I reckon they'll be sent back to studio and I'll not be able to get them back as once they go back to warehouse I know things cant be traced once scanned in! Absolutely fuming as the items were a bargain. Has anyone else had hermes do this to them?

Our Hermes round here are Awful! Constantly saying "tried to deliver" etc I've put cameras up now and the last time any of the delivery drivers tried that one I got straight on the phone to the company and said they can turn back round as they didn't even come to my door!
If I need something urgent I normally phone to company to see who they use as a delivery service. If it's Hermes I say oh don't worry il go else where to buy it!

ForalltheSaints · 09/12/2019 13:54

If politicians lived in the real world then parcel companies would be properly regulated. Nationalising Royal Mail will not stop this kind of unreasonable behaviour.

Or at least transparency in requiring all online sales to state who will deliver parcels and you having to tick a box to agree. Bad parcel companies would be dropped very quickly by reputable online stores.

Crazyoldmaurice · 09/12/2019 13:55

Update!

Spoke to the retailers and to hermes, retailer said they would ask hermes to attempt to deliver again, hermes said that the parcel was refused at the address. I said this was a lie as I was in all day and requested an investigation providing geo tracking and a photo of the door to prove the driver had indeed attempted to deliver. Hermes said they will get back to me which I very much doubt.

10 mins ago got an email saying they would attempt delivery again tonight 7-9pm , I'll fall off my chair if I ever receive this damn parcel.

Arghhh do not get me started on Hermes! Firstly I know how frustrating this can be! Same thing as you but not waited as long only been waiting 10days as I ordered during black friday from JD only to find out Hermes were delivering it! Honestly they are the worst and you cannot actually speak to anyone!

Fulltimenanny · 09/12/2019 14:28

I am glad you finally had some help! But lets see if it does get delivered! Did Hermes email you? As I am finding it so hard to find an email as I have tried to call! If so would you be able to pass the email on please?

ParkheadParadise · 09/12/2019 14:32

I'm also waiting on a delivery from Hermes.
According to them I've refused the parcel 4 times.
Just received a e-mail to say delivery will be attempted between 5 and 9pm.
I don't hold out much hope.
Bloody hate Hermes.

stickerqueen · 09/12/2019 14:40

hope you get your package soon. I'm waiting on one from yodel it's been out twice already and the driver can't find my property. Ive had loads of deliveries brought by them before so not sure what the problem is really. unless they have a new driver on the route.
our hermes driver is good never had any issues with him.

QuizzlyBear · 09/12/2019 14:41

I don’t know why companies associate themselves with Hermes. They are so crap.

As a very small business I can tell you it's because they're affordable. DHL, for example, charges nearly three times the price for the same weight parcel unless you're sending 150+ per week. I already take a hit on p+p, I simply couldn't afford DHL prices without losing customers or making no profit!

I guess Amazon could afford better though...

Ohdearohdearyme · 09/12/2019 14:41

Does anyone actually like Hermes?

I really hope you get your parcel.

polarisation · 09/12/2019 14:41

I got an email at 9.48 on Thursday saying my parcel had been delivered at 8.48, we were definitely in the house and no parcel. But the tracking shows that the parcel is still "on the way" and it's only today that I've realised it says this!!!

04:44 - Thu 05 Dec
We've delivered your parcel to your outbuilding

15:16 - Thu 05 Dec
We're sorry your parcel has been delayed, we'll have it on the move in the next 24 hours

16:02 - Thu 05 Dec
Your parcel is on its way to you today

I think Hermes have thrown things over the neighbour's wall into our enclosed back garden so I'll need to check. But even the tracking has no idea what's going on! The other parcel I've ordered was despatched on Saturday and the tracking still says they're waiting to receive it. Grr!

Delatron · 09/12/2019 15:37

I think there needs to be transparency, as a small business yes they may be cheap to use but if the parcels are going missing/ not being delivered then it’s a false economy.

I would love to know before I order anything online which delivery company they use. If it’s Yodel or Hermes I wouldn’t order from them.
DPD tends to be good. The delivery predictions are accurate and you have the option of ticking the safe place box.

Yabadee · 09/12/2019 15:51

I don’t mind things being delivered by Hermes now as our local driver is a wee gem, older man and his wife they’re lovely.

I won’t use them for posting now though, since a package I sent was ‘damaged and therefore destroyed’. Package was a laptop and mobile phone sent to my previous employer that I stupidly didn’t insure. Previous employer charged me £800 out my last pay. Expensive lesson to learn!

Angiemb · 09/12/2019 16:17

Hermes have had my parcel since 29th Nov, still not delivered it says they have it at local depot then it's been delayed. I phoned the firm I bought the item from they have sent a replacement exactly the same has happened to that. At this moment in time Hermes have 4 of my parcels in the local depot with no idea when they are going to deliver

handslikecowstits · 09/12/2019 16:35

I've had Hermes drivers claiming that I wasn't in when I was. They've taken some really bizarre pictures too. One of them was of a house down the road, one of them was of an unknown fence and the best one was of themselves by accident!

I try to find out who the courier is and if it's Hermes, I get them to deliver to our corner shop and then I pick it up. So much easier.

I suspect OP that in the next few days, it'll arrive.

SchrodingersKitty · 09/12/2019 17:17

I have had every possible sort of mix-up, damage, lies and out-right theft from Hermes over the last few months. I have contacted every company involved several times and they have sent replacements for everything - half of those did not arrive either and the complaints had to be escalated. I now only order to a drop-off point if I manage to find out it is Hermes involved. The local shop says their drop-off business has trebled recently so I'm sure I'm not alone. The loss in reputation and in costs of replacements cannot possibly make sense for the companies who uses Hermes. The same used to be true of Yodel, but they seem to be hardly used at all any more, at least in my area.

OP - I'd love to know how you managed to phone Hermes, since the key-stone of their 'business' seems to be not supplying any phone number to customers but insisting all contact has to be through the supplier. Do you have a phone number you could share with us?

I was desperately trying to contact them to let them know that their courier seemed to have gone rogue but was unable to find any way to do it.

Tone1960 · 09/12/2019 17:21

Hermes are terrible, I had a lot of troubles with them bought a watch seller said they sent it by hermes never got it no card left late, very difficult to contact this dreadful company, got a feeling they they misdelived item then sent back to seller dreadful service, seller sent me another by DHL very promptly delivered, hope you sort your problem with them regards

I've had items allegedly going missing - found out later the company I ordered from had actually run out of items and hadn't despatched them at all, yet the data had been sent to Hermes, so not really their fault, although I do think there are some glitches in their IT dept as times etc are recorded wrong and that comes from the equipment not the courier.

cmt1305 · 09/12/2019 17:29

Not the courier's fault! I believe there are many glitches in the IT and also I have had items "returned to sender" myself & discovered they had actually never been despatched from the sender - they lied, sent the data to Hermes but not the goods.

Jaxhog · 09/12/2019 17:45

Some couriers are truly awful. Yesterday, I just looked up the track on an item I ordered, to find it has 'been handed to resident'. Oh, no it hasn't! It's on my doorstep, propped against my front door. God knows how long for.

Still better than the Yodel delivery driver who pitched a parcel over my wall to hit my front door. Or the one who left a cardboard parcel in a puddle, or delivered 5 picture frames completely smashed. Twice.

tapdancingmum · 09/12/2019 17:46

I must live in the only place that Hermes actually manage to deliver to and on time. Amazon have fantastic delivery drivers round here as well but DPD are atrocious.

We did have a yodel delivery that said it was coming x day then an email to say it was left in the porch. We don't have a porch! Eventually tracked it down to still being in the drivers van and would be delivered the next day. We did get it thankfully.

WeirdPookah · 09/12/2019 17:54

I had a parcel I sent to Germany, it arrived in Germany then sat at some depo and then they told me it was being returned. For absolutely no reason given. I got the person I was sending it too to speak to them that end to find out what was happening. They didn't get a satisfactory answer but they did get the parcel eventually delivered. No explanation at any point. I wouldn't recommend them for sure.

ChestnutTalisman · 09/12/2019 18:01

I've just had an email of doom to announce a delivery will be made by Hermes. I highly doubt it. They never even attempt to deliver my items. They say they do but with me they have a 100% failure to deliver record.

Rumnraisin · 09/12/2019 18:20

We have got a massive problem with Hermes at the moment due to the reliable courier leaving and being replaced by temporary ones. In the local area we have had fake signatures saying items were delivered, returned to sender like your situation, random parcels turning up outside peoples homes, parcels found in hedges etc - this has been going on for months and Hermes as a company could not give less of a shit if they tried. It’s pure luck what kind of courier you get and the good ones don’t have any bearing on this shitty company.

Whattodoabout · 09/12/2019 18:22

They ‘delivered’ a few parcels around the back of my house without posting a card through the door. They also once completely lost a parcel. It said the courier had it and would deliver that day but it didn’t happen, instead they said it had been returned to the warehouse where they subsequently lost it Hmm.

Hermes are shit.
