So I just saw the show where they made people who needed glasses take them off and see what they could see (not much), for laughs and prizes.
I have very low eyesight and that really made me really cross that they make fun of peoples disabilities like that. They wouldn't ask someone in a wheelchair to just 'crawl along the floor, go on, just for our amusement '? Aibu to be so sensitive or was it banter? Xx

They did it so they could ‘frame’ the proposal.

You're being over sensitive. My sight is dreadful I thought it was funny and may incorporate it into our family games.

You're going to get lots of people saying you are oversensitive, but I am on your side here. It's out of order IMO. I agree that taking the piss out of people with poor eyesight is pretty shitty, and if it makes me 'oversensitive' too, to that, then so be it!

Yeah I thought the same I have to admit. The proposal was nice but up til then it was just laughing at people’s poor eyesight.

It was to set up the proposal at the end. That's all. It wasn't a real game.

For what it's worth I'm -3 in both eyes and I would have found the game hilarious in that situation.

If it had been on the Last Leg or something like that would you have been so offended? They play those kind of disability based 'gags' all the time and personally I think it helps to normalise disability rather than be a negative thing.

It wasnt about the proposal. Apart from fact she couldn't see and they made out it was funny, I hope it was lovely for them.I just felt so sad that something that I have that isn't my fault but affects me every day was so funny to so many people.

You are very unreasonable to compare needing glasses to enable you to see clearly, and being in a wheelchair still unable to walk.

Being short sighted isn’t a disability, it’s a pain in the neck at times but it’s not a disability so YABU.

How is being unable to walk incomparable to being able to see? Please educate me. I meant no offense. I mean that without glasses I am registered blind.

Oversensitive. I have a -5 and -6 prescription so I’m absolutely lost without my glasses or lenses. The difference between that and what I consider to be a “real” disability is that I can stick on my specs or my lenses and live an entirely “normal” life.

I’m hideously short sighted, have astigmatism and loss of eyesight in one eye. I also saw the show and thought it was funny, after all, I’m always laughing at myself as it’s a source of constant amusement for me. I also don’t consider myself to have a disability and can’t imagine being as sensitive as this.

With or without a wheelchair you still can’t walk. Ever.

Comparing needing glasses to improve your eye sight with being in a wheelchair not able to walk is U. Incredibly so.

Oh ffs you are being way over sensitive. Has everyone lost their sense of humour. I regularly here jokes about my illness and just take them in the context that they are intended - having a laugh. Btw bad eyesight can be corrected.

OP you didn’t make it clear that you were referring to sight that couldn’t be corrected with glasses. I’m reasonably sure those participants had sight that was corrected by glasses and thus would not be considered disabled.

My friend had to be registered blind before she was officially classed as having a disability. I didn’t see it, but pretty sure I would find it funny (and I wear glasses).

I've also never known anyone that need a glasses to say they have a disability.
With glasses or contacts you can live a normal life.

Actually OP, I thought the same thing too at first. But once the proposal came apparent it made more sense.
