I went to a works Christmas do last night, drank too much and made a tit of myself.
I’m dreading going to work on Monday! AIBU to hand my notice in?! I can’t see another solution!! Help!

Well, as long as you didn’t shit yourself

I even know someone who did that and didn’t even get told off. Fucking hate this time of year.

TheCWord · 07/12/2019 09:42

Text a work mate to see if it's that bad. It may not be and at least you will know

Danni91 · 07/12/2019 09:42

What did you do?

MsVestibule · 07/12/2019 09:44

Did you actually insult anybody or just generally behave like an idiot? If the former, go in and apologise profusely, but just once. If the latter, just style it out and do the dramatic 'I am NEVER drinking again' thing.

Just style it out, you'll get over it and so will everybody else!

Yeahnahyeah1 · 07/12/2019 09:44

It’s never ever as bad as you think it will be. Maybe outing but anyway! I got drunk on a work weekend away and fell down the stairs in just a towel... in front of my (thankfully!!) female manager. I apologised at the time, then again the next morning and text her as well once we’d all gone home (overkill 😂) and said how embarrassed I was and they barely brought it up really. Only the office bitch was well.. a bitch about it.
Try not to stress too much. What did you do?

BlueSuffragette · 07/12/2019 09:44

Just hope everyone else was so drunk that they don't remember itGrin

onanothertrain · 07/12/2019 09:45

Every Christmas night out I've ever been to someone did this, I wouldn't worry about it. You might get a bit of a ribbing on Monday but it'll blow over before you know it.
Although obviously I don't know your employer or what you mean by made a tit of yourself

Yeahnahyeah1 · 07/12/2019 09:45

I think a lot of being okay with it lies in pretending it’s okay. Be breezy, and say ‘oh gosh, how embarrassing!’ laugh and move on.

EggysMom · 07/12/2019 09:45

Did you make a tit of yourself in a way that could impact you at work (e.g. did you insult or snog your boss); or did you just make a tit of yourself (e.g. drunken dancing on the table)?

If the latter, go in to work, head held high; and when anybody mentions it, say that "At least I know how to party" Grin

If the former ... try and see your boss as early as possible to apologise!

ohprettybaby · 07/12/2019 09:46

What can you remember doing?

PurpleDaisies · 07/12/2019 09:46

That’s what Christmas parties are for. It’ll be fine.

EggysMom · 07/12/2019 09:47

My first Christmas party with my previous employer, we started drinking in the morning. I made it through the first course of lunch, but that rapidly reappeared, and I never saw the main course or dessert as I was hugging a toilet. Fortunately my colleagues always remembered it fondly rather than cattily.

EmmiJay · 07/12/2019 09:54

Sign of a good party I'd say! Just go in with a big smile, and take it all in your stride. Unless you kissed or dry humped anyone in which case offer apologies and a handshake 🤣

Butterbeeeen · 07/12/2019 09:58

I got absolutely steaming one year at a xmas party and kissed a total stranger (I was married, albeit very unhappily) that stranger is now the father of my children and my partner of 13 years. We got some stick but it wasnt the end of the world.

YoHoHoTheGinCatsofThigh · 07/12/2019 10:12

Deny everything or say you can’t remember. I have been to some shockers of works parties over the years and seen all sorts happen. Unless you are the most unpopular person at work it will be forgotten quickly. If unpopular people will delight in bringing it up regularly and tittering. Who cares anyway, they are only work mates.

BillHadersNewWife · 07/12/2019 10:13

Yes...denial is good. If anyone says "Oh my GOD what were you like when you danced on the table!"" just say "What on earth are you talking about...maybe you drank too much!"

Or "Nope, wasn't me!" with a big smile.

GoGoLego · 07/12/2019 10:13

Yeah we need to know what actually happened! But I'm guessing everyone has done something embarrassing at least once at a works Xmas party so you won't be alone

GinNotGym19 · 07/12/2019 10:14

Beer fear/ alcohol anxiety!
Chances are everyone was just as drunk and is thinking the same thing!
Just laugh anything off and go “oh don’t remind me, I’m a nightmare after a drink and I felt like death on Saturday!” Just laugh it off

Ringdonna · 07/12/2019 10:15

Ooo we need the gory details!

Yarboosucks · 07/12/2019 10:15

Did you keep your clothes on? If the answer is yes, stop worrying! If the answer is no, then resignation is the only solution.

pontiouspilates · 07/12/2019 10:15

You've got Beer Fear. We've all been there (well I definitely have!) just breeze in on Monday with your head up and style it out.

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 07/12/2019 10:17

What did you do, I bet it’s not that bad?

Ohpleasefuckofflove · 07/12/2019 10:18

Can’t imagine you’ve done worse than I have and I’m still loved, though I’ve not shit myself - in front of anyone.

MajesticWhine · 07/12/2019 10:18

You have to brazen it out really and pretend nothing happened. Unless you were really offensive in some way, and need to apologise to people. Good luck Grin
