Caitlin Moran that is.

See timesonline.typepad.com/alphamummy/

But then my children haven't really taken to Charlie and Lola, so I'm biased...

OP posts:
Dropdeadfred · 22/08/2007 11:35

it's hardly even proven info is it though...a drunken chat with someine who used to know her (allegedly)

ledodgy · 22/08/2007 11:36

Exactly which is probably why she refers to it as 'gossip' rather than fact.

Carmenere · 22/08/2007 11:36

It is NOT homespun crap, we have talked about it here on mn before. I agree it is not comparable to Stuart Lubbocks death BUT it is not offensive and to take offensive on behalf of Lauren child, the squillionairess author who is presumeably in on the joke is a bit pointless imo.

Dropdeadfred · 22/08/2007 11:37

but Stuart Lubbock did die..so thats a fact not gossip

I think you are all overanalysing far too much

is this Alphamummy site like MN with topics etc?

Yes Dropdeadfred but how much gossip surrounded his death and JFK's death that's the point she is making when she says 'gossip worthy'.

Dropdeadfred · 22/08/2007 11:40

overanalysing what? that she would cpmapre a trivial and questionable fact with how gossip-worthy she thought someone;s death was?

moljam · 22/08/2007 11:41

whys everything deleted?

Boco · 22/08/2007 11:41

Agree with Carmenere. It's not really offensive to LC, it's a pretty obvious point if you know her ex is called soren. Soren Laurens - son.

It's fairly interesting, and CM is just exaggerating for comic effect. I can see how comic effect and the actual real life death of someone is maybe not so funny though.

oliveoil · 22/08/2007 11:42

the way I see is, she is saying that it is newsworthy and oh my god making as were the michael barrymore/JFK incidents

ie everyone was talking about them

I don't think she is being evil

Carmenere · 22/08/2007 11:43

Oh FGS we know very little about LC, it is not like she is on the conception boards here. She put the character in her books and presumeably told the origin of the characters name to someone as the story has been gong around for years. I agree that CM was unsympathetic but I don't think the resulting hysteria on here is proportionate.

ledodgy · 22/08/2007 11:43

I agree Carmenere.

hippipotami · 22/08/2007 11:44

Just skimmed this thread and am confused. Am sure I saw in the front of one of the D&L books a pic of a boy called Soren, who was indeed Laurens' son. I remember remarking to dh how sweet it was she had written her own son into the story.
Did I imagine that????

Dropdeadfred · 22/08/2007 11:47

I really am dumbdounded....but your opinions are yours to own as I own mine...

LL - you have been the one voice of reason this morning that seems to know what I'm going on about...it's her hysterical, drunken glee at someone elses' distress ( whether it's true or not as she obviously believed it) that really turns my stomach.

Thank you, withoout your comments I would be doubting my ability to read and my sanity!

hippipotami · 22/08/2007 11:56

Thanks Carmenere - it is indeed the tomato book I saw this in. So that was not her son? Who was it then? Mind you, it could have been an old childhood pic of her dp.

Either way, that piece of journalism is sensationalist gossipy rubbish isn't it (I only skimmed it though, so may have missed something insightful and thought provoking

Well, it irritated me, because Caitlin Moran, like all these Polly Filler me-me-me journos, seems to think this kind of petty score settling (wonder what Lauren did to Twatlin to deserve such spite) is professional journalism. But then I've despised Moran since she was a witless, rubbish, music journalist whose pieces were all squeak-squeak-squeak me-me-me years ago.

LazyLineLegilimens · 22/08/2007 12:01

Have not read CM before.

Have just clicked on the link and read the article. Well, actually I real half of it. That was all I could take of the ill thought out, unoriginal, not-that-interesting-at-all tripe.

Does she get paid to write that stuff? Seriously? A writer named a character after someone she used to know. And one of them wanted kids. Is that it????!!!?!!?

lucyellensmum · 22/08/2007 12:02

i guess being a journo, she can take it on the chin, i dont know her personally, never KNOWINGLY conversed with her on here either, so cant see how my comment was a personal attack. and needed deleting
