To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

I’ll be voting labour. This antisemitism debate is getting old I’m afraid. He hasn’t done anything antisemitic. He has expelled people from his party for posting antisemitic views online.

Racism shouldn’t be allowed in any party and yet people bizarrely focus on antisemitism above all the other forms of vile repugnant racist behaviour out there, in society and in our parliament. He’ll be getting my vote from now on, and I used to be a Lib Dem supporter!

I will also be joining the Labour Party and contributing to them as of today. Threads like this highlight a very pro-Tory agenda and are transparent and pathetic.

bellinisurge · 19/11/2019 13:54

Yes, that's right. Obviously it's a Tory conspiracy to besmirch JC. Hmm
For fuck's sake.

YouJustDoYou · 19/11/2019 13:56

I haven’t read anything antisemitic here - and that’s going by the official definition. And while I strongly condemn racism in any form, what I’ve seen here is just an elaborate smear campaign that serves only to benefit the tories

It's been deleted, quite rightly. And the only smear campaign I've seen is one against the Jewish people. Which Is why those horrible comments were deleted in the first place.

Halleli · 19/11/2019 13:56

Are you Jewish?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/11/2019 14:01

These comments are why I'm not sure deleting posts is a good idea actually. I would prefer them to have a MN comment saying "Offensive content, please refer to talk guidelines" etc - and the user banned.

The thread contains many posts deleted by MN as being anti Semitic and people then say "I haven't seen a single anti Semitic comment". Fuck me.

It's so fucking depressing to read the last few comments especially and I wonder if people addressing black peoples' concerns about racism would say people relating their experiences of racism were "nonsense" and "getting old" and just a smear campaign by people who weren't black, who are just
people pathetically trying to besmirch others Hmm

This question is always dodged or avoided but I really would like people with the above views to answer

Whether you think Jews are lying about anti semitism they have witnessed or experienced?

Clearly for lots of people the answer is yes, people who aren't ashamed to be called an anti semite (which tells you all you need to know).

PS I already said up thread I had been a Labour voter, activist and supporter for over 20 years - do you genuinely think I am lying about anti semitism to whip up support for the Tories?

I'd really like an explicit answer, and it's telling if people dodge these questions .

In fact I've just checked and found an email I sent in April 2017 advising I wanted to be removed from the mailing list as I had already resigned my membership over their failure to address Ken Livingstone.

So if you want to call me a fucking Tory troll lying about anti semitism, feel free.

You can think there is a massive problem with anti semitism within Labour currently, and think Boris Johnson is a massive cunt too you know, amazing isn't it??

I would never ever vote Tory in my life and I'm not lying about anti semitism, which I have experienced personally as well as witnessed.

Frenchw1fe · 19/11/2019 14:15

@Halleli
Thank you.
This is never explained in news reports.

I always thought it strange that Israel, apparently, would cause unnecessary suffering over water and electricity supply.

I visited Israel for just two days with my daughter and our Jewish guide was so diplomatic about all Israel's citizens and there didn't seem to be any animosity towards the Palestinians.

Obviously we only got a snapshot of the country but it really made me want to spend more time there.
It's certainly a complicated region though.

He has taken so many steps to tackle antisemitism

Like set up an independent complaints procedure like he has been asked to?

Frenchw1fe · 19/11/2019 14:18

@curlykaren
Just seen your link.
I'm not surprised that there are so many conflicting remarks about Israel/Palestine.
As I said, very complicated.

bellinisurge · 19/11/2019 14:21

The point is that he enables them. He is either too ignorant or too stupid to see that intolerable bastards are using him.
And like so many on here he thinks that discussions about antisemitism IN THE UK must be tempered by reference to the Netanyahu government because British Jews are seen as being responsible for/enablers of Likud. And therefore antisemitism is acceptable to Corbynistas because it is part of the struggle against Likud.
To which the only reasonable response is: Go Fuck Yourselves, You Are Antisemites.

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2019 14:24

It’s very odd that we’ve just had an influx of first time posters who have decided to join the Labour Party off the back of this thread.

Did a klaxon go off somewhere?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/11/2019 14:24

Actually do you know what, why the fuck am I asking people if they think Jews are lying about anti semitism when they don't recognise it anyway? Hmm

Deary me. Well, you can't argue with stupid, literally!

leckford · 19/11/2019 14:25

He is a nasty individual and pretty thick .. The ideas he and the other comrades have is to borrow huge amounts of money that will take forever to pay back and will mean tax increases for everyone. Can you imagine letting them take over broadband? They will monitor people’s accounts, like Russia

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/11/2019 14:28

Come on @noblegiraffe you know the Klaxon went off first in our Secret Stealthy Tory Undercover Unit Wink Actually I never met a secret Tory, they're usually proud to advertise their views (Xenia that's you, btw although I do admire your dedication to working women Grin)

Talking of views, Id quite like to share the response I got from my local councillor regarding resigning my membership but it could be outing.

MrPan · 19/11/2019 14:29

leckford - you are demonstrating the exact characteristics/insults you hurl at Corbyn.

Xenia · 19/11/2019 14:40

Yes, I am certainly happy to suggest people vote Conservative if they are unsure how to vote. The factional in fightiing within Labour is always fun to watch and if it destroys the chances of a Corbyn landslide next month so much the better.

I support the existence of the state of Israel. I hope UK continues on the whole to treat most people regardless of sex, religion or race fairly

Halleli · 19/11/2019 14:42

I'm just glad I'll have the opportunity to vote for Luciana Berger this time round.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/11/2019 14:42

Do people who think we are undercover Tory shills, who are lying about experiencing anti semitism, are fake Jews, in the style of fake news? Maybe we all have stunt Menorahs, like the MN stunt pineapple Grin

I'm worried it's obvious I am off my face on painkillers now Blush

YouJustDoYou · 19/11/2019 14:44

Threads like this highlight a very pro-Tory agenda and are transparent and pathetic

Actually, it highlights the thoughts and feelings of our Jewish community. And the vitriol of the Labour posters on here and their wilful denial of a minority's feelings and thoughts.

Excited0803 · 19/11/2019 14:49

We aren't all Jewish nor are we all Tory, some of us just don't like anti-Semitism, sorry if that's inconvenient for the story.

@bellinisurge put it all very nicely.

HopeMumsnet · 19/11/2019 14:53

Hi everyone,
We would like to clarify that the posts that we have deleted were anti-Semitic in content and also that the vast majority of them were made by one person.
We have banned them, but trolls can be persistent so please do continue to report if you see any dog-whistling and we will deal with it.
We're sorry for any upset.

Ritascornershop · 19/11/2019 14:57

Once again @WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles is a voice of reason. One poster posted an anti-Semitic trope about Israel, I corrected her, and both posts were deleted. I, too, would rather they stood so that people can’t then smugly say “well, I don’t see any antisemitism”.

And once again a thread about Corbyn being an anti-Semite is hijacked by people wanting to obsess about Israel, as if what they perceive to be the actions of an external state have anything to do with people’s shitty behaviour toward Jews in the UK. There’s always some good reason why it’s okay to blame the Jews Confused

Xenia · 19/11/2019 15:01

I would prefer nothing were deleted so we can see what we are up against and because a free press etc is a good thing but websites can decide these things themselves.

The Tory party has better policies and is able to look after the needs of the less well off better than Labour. It also respects privaec property better than Labour with Labour's proposed confiscatory new taxes so it really is a win/win for anyone concerned about Labour's policies on any grounds to vote Conservative.
