To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

They are reading from the Momentum script on Israel and have the audacity to suggest other posters have been indoctrinated.

The lack of understanding of the complexities and history of Israel and Palestine is staggering.

Again, why are some posters holding British Jews responsible for Netanyahu’s policies ?

Halleli · 19/11/2019 08:38

@JollyRocker

I’m not going to take lectures on Israel/Palestine from someone who bases their arguments on shoddily made online documentaries.

I have a masters degree in Middle Eastern History. I have been to Israel at least 15 times. I’ve even been to Gaza (pre-2005).

The conflict is not one-sided. Both peoples have pain. Both sides have the right to national self-determination.

Privileged Westerners who’ve never set foot there thinking they can solve the conflict based on knowledge derived from dodgy internet documentaries and demonising solely one side
... it reminds me of another type of British person many decades ago who thought they could solve international problems by drawing lines on a map from afar.

blighter · 19/11/2019 08:42

Go to work amazon . Your predictable rantings straight from a corbyn loving script will make you late.

One good thing. Anyone undecided as to whether or not to vote for the cult that is Labour may well have had their minds made up by reading your laughable rants 😂🤣🤣🤣. Or course hamas really care fir and look after their own kind/children and only have their safety at the foremost in their hearts 😐 I read your posts and I feel pro Israel instead of on the fence 😊

Jojo2389 · 19/11/2019 08:43

Again, who are 'these people' who are 'entitled' and 'silently approving'? What exactly are they entitled about? I can't believe that in 2019 people are happy to be so openly anti-semitic that on this thread alone there are posters seemingly suggesting that there is some form of conspiracy by Jews (who? All of them? Only the British ones?) against Corbyn.

Collective responsibility is not a thing, for any community.

blighter · 19/11/2019 08:44

Fwiw I have been to Israel many times and lived there for a while. I also know many people who still live there so have first hand news

blighter · 19/11/2019 08:49

Oh and to the poster who said jews hating Arabs. What a load of bolloks. As a jew I wasn't brought up to hate Arabs. If anything there was more of that the other side. I was in a newsagent in queensway that had anti semetic literature on the shelves ffs.

Halleli · 19/11/2019 08:49

Now @JollyRocker @amazonfromkent and the rest of you - I’ll ask you a question.

If antisemitism is all lies and smears, then why do my children have to walk past armed guards to enter their school?

blighter · 19/11/2019 08:53

halleli if you really have a masters in middle eastern studies then you will know that jews have as much right to be there as Arabs. If not, then it says a lot about the books you read, the people you spoke to/mixed with and the people who marked your disitation 😊

blighter · 19/11/2019 08:55

Sorry hallelli I 're read your post and had misunderstood it the first time. Apologies

mycatthinksshesatiger · 19/11/2019 08:57

Halleli thank you for so eloquently outlining the situation. I share your perspective but don’t have all the facts at my fingertips as you do, and find that when asked by others why it’s more complex than Corbyn et al. suggest that my brain just freezes up and I can’t easily recall what I know. Would it be ok with you to save your explanation and print it out so I have it to hand?

As for this thread, it is too depressing for words....it is providing a perfect illustration of the scale of the discrimination and hatred/resentment British Jews facing and the total inability of those perpetrating the discrimination to see what they are doing.

I am surprised an MN moderator hasn’t yet intervened☹️☹️☹️

Alltheprettyseahorses · 19/11/2019 09:07

Don't start me AmazonfromKent .

I'm also surprised that this thread hasn't been deleted, what with the open racists posting their filth like it's meant to be acceptable. But then people may as well see what Labour brings now.

Amazonfromkent · 19/11/2019 09:15

Corbyn is still leader of Labour because he is not an anti semite. Had he been one, he would have been removed, ostracised and condemned. Its a non argument. I am NOT a racist. How fucking dare you.

@jolly Smile go Corbyn!! Smile

GlitchStitch · 19/11/2019 09:30

Imagine calling 87% of a minority being concerned about racism a 'non issue'. You are a walking advert for why decent people are turning their backs on labour.

PickUpThePieces · 19/11/2019 09:32

Honestly, I think it’s best to stop engaging with JollyRocker and AmazonfromKent.

I’ve taken screen shots of this thread and look forward to discussing the matter with my local Labour MP.

Amazonfromkent · 19/11/2019 09:36

Well I've taken screenshots too.

curlykaren · 19/11/2019 09:38

This thread makes me feel like people are trying to instigate some sort of tier system into racism. Isn't ALL racism bad, doesn't EVERYONE need effective hospitals/schools etc. Shouldn't women from ALL races get equal pay? It's not a race to the bottom, antisemitism shouldn't get to be the worst kind of racism.

bellinisurge · 19/11/2019 09:41

No it shouldn't @curlykaren . Nor should it be an acceptable form of racism that Jewish people must accept. Which is the Corbynite position.
For completeness, because Corbynites pretend I don't care about it, Islamophobia is disgusting and should be rooted out wherever it festers.

GlitchStitch · 19/11/2019 09:41

Where has anybody said anti-Semitism is the worst kind of racism? However it is the only kind that many on the left seem happy to dismiss, doubt and deflect about, and accuse the victims of it of conspiracy, lies and smears. Why do you think that is?

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 19/11/2019 09:43

There will be Labour supporters reading this who passionately believe in Corbyn's social justice agenda and wonder if a few dodgy connections and social media posts from when he was a back bencher really matter.

The obsession and venom shown by Corbyn's supporters on this thread give the answer to that. It matters.

This thread is what it is like to be inside the Labour Party today. It is why Luciana Berger, Louise Ellman and others have been bullied out. Pete Willsman ("Jewish Trump fanatics"/"Rabbis controlled by Israel") is still a member. And there are thousands of other members who, while knowing little of the issues, believe the antisemitism issue is a deliberate smear to prevent Corbyn becoming PM.

I implore you to think on this before voting Labour. (I have been a member for nearly 40 years.)

TruthIsOutThere33 · 19/11/2019 09:46

Sorry but what a disgusting assertion - that Corbynites somehow hate Jews or are antisemitic or that we accept any form of racism?

I am absolutely appalled at this thread and will be voting labour simply because the racism within the tories is worse and I want that rooted out too. I also want the tories out of my local constituency and I care deeply about the future of our NHS. But I do not accept any form of racism and yes I support Corbyn because he is not an antisemite.
