To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

And btw, if a person of Chinese origin was telling you about the racism they've experienced in the UK, would you bring up what the Chinese government is doing to the Uighurs?

Or is it only British Jews you hold responsible for others' actions?

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 23:23

GlitchStitch I don't think it's an influx. "Jewish Voice for Labour" monitor social media very closely but I would recognise the specific tropes, quotes and links they use and I haven't seen them here.

Sadly, I think this thread shows the extent to which anti-Jewish racism has been normalised on the left. This environment has been, in my experience, deliberately recreated inside the Labour Party.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:25

Just a reminder that this is not a thread about Israel and Israel's actions, that's a whole differnet can of worms. Of course the Corbyn cult try to make it about Israel/Palestine because that fits their agenda and derails the very strong evidence against Corbyn and his ilk - please don't take the bait!

Where do these posters keep coming from? I'm hoping it's an organised influx rather than regular mumsnetters spouting such offensive shite.

Regular Mumsnetter here, if i'm included in that 'influx' remark. Not everyone agrees with what you say and you can't force them to no matter how much you bully and smear.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:26

Exactly. I've never seen any British Buddhists been held to account for the actual and real genocide of the Rohingya or the absolute slaughter of the Tamils in Sri Lanka during the civil war. Rightly so, since they are not responsible. But when it comes to Jews, it's fair game.

ArseDarkly · 18/11/2019 23:28

No it isn't. And it's not up to you to tell people what they can and can't post about - you're just trying to deflect.

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 23:28

I'm Catholic. Ask me about the Real IRA. Ffs.

Idonthaveaname35 · 18/11/2019 23:28

Yet whenever there has been any acts of terrorism committed by evil people calling themselves Muslims then somehow all Muslims are collectively to blame, if you believe the media.

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 23:29

Have you seen some of the recent posts? Do you really think they're okay?

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:29

"JC has been very vocal about not building illegal settlements and it may shock you but there are plenty of British Jewish people who agree with him."

Indeed, I would count myself as one of them. I am highly critical of Israel.

And, yet, Jeremy Corbyn is still an anti-semite.

You see, it is entirely possible to be VERY critical about Israel's actions AND not to be anti-semitic.

You, on the other hand, have failed at this completely along with your cult leader.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2019 23:30

ArseDarkly out of interest, do you see the antisemitism in this most recent poster’s questions?

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 23:30

Yet whenever there has been any acts of terrorism committed by evil people calling themselves Muslims then somehow all Muslims are collectively to blame, if you believe the media.

And we fucking oppose that racism with every fibre of our being. But when it is your own biases that are challenged, all that you know abour racism goes out of the window.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:31

I was just advising people not to take your bait @ArseDarkly.

This is a thread about BRITISH antisemitism in the british Labour party. Discussion of Israel's policies is the deflection from the very uncomfortable truth.

Idonthaveaname35 · 18/11/2019 23:31

Ok please can anyone here show evidence that directly proves JC is an anti Semite?

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:33

read the thread.

Still, at least you've provided us with ample evidence of YOUR antisemitic credentials so thanks for that.

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 23:33

"Ok please can anyone here show evidence that directly proves JC is an anti Semite?"

This is called "sealioning". Asking for evidence when ample evidence has already been provided.

If you can answer my question, then please do

Ok, I will.

It's not ok.

But it is simply one aspect of an incredibly complicated conflict that if you have never set food in Israel/Palestine you will never understand.

It is not a black and white conflict. It's not one-sided. Both sides have done terrible things.

You cannot reduce it to one tiny aspect - 'demolishing houses' - and then judge it solely on that basis. That is ahistorical and a logical fallacy.

The only thing I’ve seen on this thread is hysteria

Have you read the examples of Corbyn's behaviour? Can you explain why they aren't anti-Semitic and why objections to them are 'hysterical' please?

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 23:38

@Idonthaveaname35

Quite a few posters explained why your supposedly innocent question was antisemitic. You wilfully refuse to accept it.

You didn't come here to ask a question. You came to goad.

Idonthaveaname35 · 18/11/2019 23:38

Read my above post and read the responses I’ve had to questions that I’ve asked.

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 23:39

"And even with that epic rant, you still haven’t answered my question."

Sealioning (also spelled sea-lioning and sea lioning) is a type of trolling or harassment which consists of pursuing people with persistent requests for evidence or repeated questions, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity.
