To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

And also I recommend to you to read up a little on the old history here. You know who else we're friends and enablers of Hitler??? Where shall we start. Italy. Romania. Japan. Norway. Hungary. Bulgaria. Croatia. Take it up with them?? Uproot their trees?? Take their land?? Deny them basic human rights??? Noooo. Why when we can just finish off the Palestinians and be done with it

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 18/11/2019 08:17

Also with Corbyn, he often leaves you to infer his views from his behaviour when he thinks that openingly stating the view might be unpopular amongst some of his supporters. That way there is sufficient ambiguity that he hopes to appeal to both groups.

So I would infer he wants to leave the EU for example from the fact that he won't say that he thinks it would be better to stay but other remainers might be confused and vote for him.

Just to note it seems you can get expelled pretty sharpish from the labour party if like Jennifer James you aren't careful enough about your language when saying you don't think humans can change sex.

So they are able to expel members when they want to.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 08:21

@Amazonfromkent , you are getting rather het up. Did I say the only enablers? I was simply correcting your view that the Second World War took place in Europe. The clue is in the description of the conflict.

Solihooley · 18/11/2019 08:25

Grapefruits totally agree. That’s why he’s no use as a leader. I don’t think he’s necessarily a bad person, anti Semite or a bad MP. But he’s pretty hopeless as the leader of the party.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/11/2019 08:31

Bintheredunthat The footage of the main 'Zionists' incident (which has been discussed on this thread) was all over the news not long ago. If you somehow missed it, you can google it.

It's interesting that this thread has descended into ravings about Israel, a country roughly the size of Wales that's 3000 miles away, with most of its expansion a result of winning the 6 day war over 50 years ago, the war being an attempt by Arab states to destroy Israel. Supposed concern about Palestinian people rings rather hollow when war doesn't even factor in Palestinian health authorities' lists of main dangers (things like RTAs and heart disease do) and countries like Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, each responsible for more Palestinian deaths than Israel, along with Hamas and ISIS are never mentioned.

This is all irrelevant however when speaking about the horrendous racism aimed at British Jews, born and living in Britain not Israel, which is endemic in Labour.

Rubyupbeat · 18/11/2019 08:33

The fact that many Jewish labour party members have left and condemned the party of being anti-semitic does it for me. Some life long members.
Also hundreds, probably more, in the jewish community saying they will re locate to Israel if labour gets in.

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 18/11/2019 08:35

@Solihooley I would actually go a step further and infer from his observable behaviour that he is an anti semite. But it's part of a pattern of obfuscation on his part that this primarily seems to show its self through a pattern of associations and inaction.

I am sure he doesn't identify himself as one though. The problem is that people who consider themselves as totally against racism and sexism etc can then become unable to reflect on their own behaviour.

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 08:52

@allthepretty. What's size and distance got to do with anything? Again, a distraction tactic. The key is in the Palestinian Health authorities name. It's not their job to fight wars. You go and sooth your conscience with all this demagogue rubbish.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 08:55

It isn't their job to fight wars. And fuckers shouldn't use their hospitals as shields.

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 08:55

There's racism in the UK aimed at Muslims, Hindus, blacks, Sikhs, Eastern European etc etc. How is anti semitism worse than any other racism?? Because a Jewish persons feelings or rights matter more???

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 08:56

Your rather biased view of the state health authority is clear to see. Have a few deep breaths and count to ten.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 08:57

And why is Israel expected to meet a higher standard by Corbynistas?

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 08:59

@Amazonfromkent , nice distraction techniques.

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 08:59

Which are..

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 09:11

What higher standards???

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 09:12

Amazon demonstrating very nicely there how so-called criticism of Israel very quickly descends into nasty rants about 'Jews' in general. Revolting but again summing up why so many are running a mile from Labour.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 09:13

"There's racism in the UK aimed at Muslims, Hindus, blacks, Sikhs, Eastern European etc etc. How is anti semitism worse than any other racism?? Because a Jewish persons feelings or rights matter more???"

Those pesky Jews whining about anti-semitism. I mean, don't they realise how good they have it? The country has far more important things to deal with. Hmm

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 09:13

Every criticism that has been laid at the feet of Corbynistas over antisemitism- didactic, unthinking ranting- you have accused people who disagree with you of doing the same. Rather like Leave fanatics arguing that the Remain campaign was full of lies and funded by Russia.
Ask why your man, Corbyn refused to meet with the Israeli Labour Party- no friends of Netanyahu. Was it the usual "diary issues" that he trots out as an excuse for not talking to people who don't make a cool photo opportunity?

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/11/2019 09:18

Amazonfromkent It is extremely relevant when this toxic racism towards British Jews is met with 'bUt IsRaEl'. Israel itself is irrelevant in the discussion however. No one cares about Israel, least of all the 'bUt IsRaEl'-er. Anyway, it's 2019 and there are actually apologists for racism posting as though they're not ashamed. Things like this would have been shouted down if said in the pub a couple of decades ago. People would have pulled a face and crossed the road away from the racist. I thought we were moving on, becoming better. Instead we've gone backwards. In 2019, when people spout the vilest racist bile and others defend it like it's acceptable. How fucking progressive.

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 09:20

Read recently that a large % of Jewish people are going to leave the UK if labour get in to power!
Where are they going to go?

Intrigued by this. the US administration at present, and many European countries are unapologetically anti semitic. Where do jews on this thread feel they will be safer?

Halleli · 18/11/2019 09:23

Read recently that a large % of Jewish people are going to leave the UK if labour get in to power!
Where are they going to go?

Israel, of course.

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 09:24

"There's racism in the UK aimed at Muslims, Hindus, blacks, Sikhs, Eastern European etc etc."

The day victims of these other kinds of racism are met with the same disbelief, denial, whatabouttery and sheer abuse as Jewish people are by Corbyn supporters maybe I'll believe there isn't a specific anti-Semitism problem in the Labour party.

Thought experiment- would you have ever dreamed of saying this about any other minority?-

"How is anti semitism worse than any other racism?? Because a Jewish persons feelings or rights matter more???"

PeterOhanrahahanrahan · 18/11/2019 09:27

It always descends into rants about Israel, because this is nothing other than the age old tropes about malevolent Jewish power and control transferred to a different geography. The venom is never directed against the countries in the region where mass killing is really going on.

One of the diagnostic tests of left antisemitism is whether you can discuss anti-Jewish racism without moving the discussion on to Israel/Palestine.

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 09:41

@Halleli Of course Israel!! Time for more expansion of the settlements😡

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 09:44

"Israel, of course." Not quite got the idea, have you.
