To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

@bellinisurge

I’m Jewish, think Corbyn is an antisemite, and would move to Israel myself if my Hebrew was any good...

Halleli · 18/11/2019 09:48

Of course Israel!! Time for more expansion of the settlements😡

And maybe you should have thought about that before you became a massive antisemite.

We’re not your punching bag. This isn’t the 1930s. We have somewhere we will always be welcomed now.

Halleli · 18/11/2019 09:50

You can’t have it both ways - you can’t act like we don’t belong in Britain, and then be surprised when we move to the only country in the world that will welcome us unquestioningly.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 09:50

Fair enough @Halleli . Best of luck.

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 09:51

A massive anti Semite? Is that opposed to a little one😀

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 09:53

Oh and yeah best of luck Halleli

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 10:17

Breathtaking superiority and refusal to face the truth. Such likeable qualities.

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 10:22

Who are you referring to Amazon?

Amazonfromkent · 18/11/2019 10:24

Some of the posters on here obvs

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 10:33

Ah I see. What are posters refusing to see the truth about? Could you point out what examples given of Corbyn's behaviour that aren't true please? Nobody else has been able to so far. Also what 'superiority' are you talking about?

Halleli · 18/11/2019 10:34

Breathtaking superiority and refusal to face the truth. Such likeable qualities

The only person you’re describing here is yourself.

‘Breathtaking superiority’ - thinking you know better than Jewish people what is and isn’t antisemitic.

‘Refusal to face the truth’ - ignoring every example of Corbyn’s antisemitic behaviour and sticking your head in the sand.

Grow up.

So, Holocaust. Why not take it up with its creators. I.e. German Nazis. Not one Arab was involved in it....

Oh dear.

Here is the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem in Berlin greeting the Aserbaidschanische Legion. As he said in his fatwa of November 1942:

It is the duty of Muslims in general and Arabs in particular to ... drive all Jews from Arab and Muslim countries... . Germany is also struggling against the common foe who oppressed Arabs and Muslims in their different countries. It has very clearly recognized the Jews for what they are and resolved to find a definitive solution [endgültige Lösung] for the Jewish danger that will eliminate the scourge that Jews represent in the world.

As Mockers has rightly pointed out above, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, colluded with the Nazis and was given an office in Berlin.

Besides, anti-Jewish violence didn't start and end with the Holocaust. It isn't a solely European phenomenon.

Ever heard of the Farhud in Iraq? It was a pogrom carried out against the Jewish population of Baghdad in 1941 - while the Holocaust was happening - in which over 180 Jews were murdered and over 1000 injured.

Answerthequestion · 18/11/2019 10:50

@Travelfan1 to Israel obviously. Do I want to live there? No I don’t. Do I want to stay in a country where people like you are thoroughly anti Semitic? No. Do I believe in the settlements? No. But if it gets worse here then I will have absolutely no choice but to go to the only country where me and my children might be welcomed.

Answerthequestion · 18/11/2019 10:56

Perhaps this helps a bit ...

Why Jews moved from Arab lands.

MockersthefeMANist · 18/11/2019 11:06

The Israel-Palestine conflict is a longstanding and complex historical problem I studied as part of my degree. There are varying interpretations, including an Israeli sponsored one that has the wicked Arabs everywhere attacking the entirely innocent jews. This has as little standing as the mirror-image argument propogated on the Arab side. The question of exacatly what happened in the Naqba is complex; why so many fled and why those that didn't remained and became citizens of Israel, (and a second class citizen of Israel suffering myriad discriminations is an improvement on what you get in Egypt or Syria, especially if you are a Bedouin.)

So it is a matter of continual frustration and fury to me that so many on the left have been spoon-fed a babyfood jar version of this question that has the wicked jews everywhere attacking the entirely innocent Arabs, and when I raise objection, it is asserted that this can only be because I beleive in the mirror-opposite version.

Thank you, but I have read the sources and written the essays. I know about Dier Yassin and Ma'alot, and two wrongs do not make a right.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 11:10

Even if israel were really a genocidal regime intent on wiping out an ethnic miniority of a different religion like, say, Myanmar or Sri Lanka, it still wouldn't justify anti semitism against British Jews in the same way that it wouldn't justify racism against British Buddhists on the same basis.

Israel is not the issue and focusing the argument on israel is distraction from the real issue being discussed here: anti semitism

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/11/2019 11:12

I think people often are unaware how ingrained anti semitism beliefs are within our society. How famous Jewish people are described, referred to with suspicion, seen as over ambitious and ruthless in business it’s acceptable to many to make such remarks with no thought to them being offensive which is absolutely no excuse

CendrillonSings · 18/11/2019 12:47

Today Corbyn’s finally being challenged in public on the antisemitism that has mysteriously gone from minimal to virulent in just a few years of his leadership:

Laura Kuenssberg
@bbclaurak

First applause during Corbyn session here when audience member asks him to say why Labour is 'for the many not the Jew', confronting him on anti-semitism

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 13:00

Ah yes Kaura K, the Tory mouthpiece who practically wets herself when she’s ‘interviewing’ bojo😀She spouts garbage about the LP on a regular basis.- although she reserves her real ire for the SNP. She’s an absolute joke of a ‘journalist’

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 13:06

She also vilified the father of the sick child who confronted bojo on a hospital visit. She outed him on social media and invited a pile in. She’s a thouroughly nasty piece of work.

AnnieTotach · 18/11/2019 13:06

Yes, well, Laura K works for the BBC which as, pointed out by the apparently non anti-semite travelfan1, is controlled by the Jews so, really, what did we expect? She's probably in the pay of Israel and maybe she's secretly a jew.

GlitchStitch · 18/11/2019 13:09

Instead of attacking the individual tweeting a report, why not address the substance of it which is that an audience member has challenged JC on anti-Semitism.

Travelfan1 · 18/11/2019 13:14

Anything to say about the above Annie or are you just going to continue with your tiresome name calling and playing the victim?

I couldn’t give a flying fuck if you want to call me anti Semitic. Water off a ducks back ..

caranconnor · 18/11/2019 13:15

Saying that the BBC is controlled by Jews is an anti semitic statement.

I agree that anti semitism is commonplace, so much that most people don't even realise they are being anti semitic.
