How old were your babies when they first stayed over with grandparents?

Due to do a KIT day next Friday. Have already done 2 where baby stayed with dad. This time my parents are having her but live a 30 mile drive away. It will be easier all round for the baby who will be 5 months to stay over the night before with them as I am training in another city. AIBU to consider it so young? She's used to being left with them just not overnight. The big kids will be here but at school. So baby will be in her own.

Mine never stayed overnight with anyone, but that was a combination of me not really wanting them to and Grandparents never asking. 5 months will be fine I think.

Thehop · 12/11/2019 20:11

When they asked

Thehop · 12/11/2019 20:11

But I’m this instance if you’re confident and baby knows them it’s perfectly fine

4 weeks old but I really trust my mother. We are very close.

It was an awards ceremony but with drinks after and a hotel afterwards. We ended up just sleeping in the hotel room. Grin

MrsKoala · 12/11/2019 20:13

DS1 was about 4 months. DS2 about the same. DD is 3 and never has.

Stompythedinosaur · 12/11/2019 20:13

Dd1 stayed at 18 months because I was giving birth to dd2.

Wallywobbles · 12/11/2019 20:13

8 weeks with no 1. Probably a couple of months older with no 2. Not a very MN answer. But I was very grateful.

Winterdaysarehere · 12/11/2019 20:15

Never. But I had dgs 2 nights a week at dil's request - he was 5 months. Slept all night at my house!!
It's personal choice.

sevenswansareswimming · 12/11/2019 20:16

I think n DS was around 3/4 month, I can't remember. But he is 15 month now and stays at least once a week and loves his grandma and grandad very much and has an incredible bond with them!

pud1 · 12/11/2019 20:17

DD1 was about 6 months. DD2 more like six weeks. Both stayed with MIL but I have a fantastic relationship with her.

allthepeoplethatcomearound · 12/11/2019 20:17

DD has been going since 10months, goes for a night every 6-8 weeks and it’s honestly heavenly 😂

lyralalala · 12/11/2019 20:18

Totally varied depending on circumstance. I'd totally consider it in your shoes

DS2 stayed with my Nana (she brought me up) when he was 4 days old because one of my older kids had suspected meningitis and I had to stay in hospital with her

DD3 stayed with MIL at 9 weeks because her reflux was killing us all sleep wise and both DH and I needed a break to sleep

Elbeagle · 12/11/2019 20:19

DD1 2.5 years. DD2 15 months. DC3 is 10 months and hasn’t yet.
But that’s because no one offered before that!

lyralalala · 12/11/2019 20:20

Mine have stayed with my Nana and MIL, especially MIL, regularly since they were small

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 12/11/2019 20:21

DS is 8 years old and has never stayed at grandparents alone

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/11/2019 20:21

About 3 weeks. We were buying a house and it made sense for him to stay with them while we went to see the new place.

LittleTopic · 12/11/2019 20:23

I think DD was 3 weeks. But she was with my mum who I trust more than anyone and only 15 minutes away. It really depends on if/when you are comfortable with it.

momtoj · 12/11/2019 20:23

Mine is six months and he’s had at least 3 or 4 sleepovers at my moms! It helps she is only few mins up the road and we’re really close. I used to love staying at my nans as a child and was a regular occurance so I want the same for him! I wasn’t breastfeeding though so makes it easier perhaps.

CosmoK · 12/11/2019 20:24

12 weeks but mil had looked after DS since he was 4 weeks old at our house.

orangeteal · 12/11/2019 20:25

6 months, that was only because I was happy to substitute some breast feeds with formula once I'd started weaning, if I hadn't of been BF it would have been much sooner!

Ineedcoffee2345 · 12/11/2019 20:26

3 weeks old with my mum and 4 weeks with MIL both who I trust more than anyone. However I was down collecting her at 7am the next morning

WhatsInAName19 · 12/11/2019 20:27

DD was 2 the first time. My mum stayed over at ours with DD, and DH and I went to a friend's 40th at a local-ish hotel and stayed over. Mum has come over to spend the night with DD a couple of times since (I think once was a birthday and once our anniversary) and we went to our nearest city for a meal, night out and posh hotel stay. It's lovely, but I'm not super comfortable being away from her so I wouldn't want to do it any more often or go any further away.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 12/11/2019 20:27

My parents babysat for ds overnight when he was about a year and dh and I went away. But they stayed at our house so ds was in his usual routine and environment.

GrumpySausage · 12/11/2019 20:28

DS was 3.5 (day I had DD) and DD was 11 months.

I would have let DS go earlier but never need too.

Since they've stayed a handful of times.

babycatcher411 · 12/11/2019 20:30

With DS1, I was living with my parents so it was a bit different and mum already helped me a lot. I think he was only a few months old when I stay out for the first time without him, or when my parents took him away with them when I had to stay home (I went back to school when he was 4 weeks old, so mum was in some respects his second parent as his father wasn’t on the scene and she had him when I was at school)

DS2 is 8 months old and I can’t imagine being without him so he won’t be staying out any time soon. It will inevitably happen at some point when I’m back at work as I’m a shift worker and DP is about to start shifts too.
