To spend time looking at houses on rightmove?

Mammyloveswine · 10/11/2019 10:52

So I have a secret hobby... I spend hours searching houses on rightmove and then plan how I would furnish/redcorate etc...

I don't even choose big houses, I often go for cheaper houses or flats and imagine if it was just me and the kids so I could decorate it exactly how I want Grin and not have DHs input/shite to factor in Blush

Willington Terrace, Wallsend, Tyne And Wear, NE28

This is my current fantasy home... I think it could a stunner!

Feel free to share yours!

Re-decorate that was supposed to be!

Is that a framed picture of Billie Eilish on the dressing table in the master bedroom?!
It’s a lovely little house though.
I never turned off the automated search result emails from RightMove after we moved three years ago now. I find it kind of reassuring to look at houses of a similar size and price to ours and see what people have done with them. DH thinks this is weird.
Sometimes I look up properties that I’ve seen ‘for sale’ boards outside - as it’s interesting to peek inside. I don’t even mention that to DH!

AutumnGlitterBall · 10/11/2019 11:00

I like looking at house builders websites and the show homes to see how they’re decorated. I could never live so tidily (two children!) but the homes are always so beautiful.

Advicewel · 10/11/2019 11:03

My guilty pleasure is sims I build a house and decorate it the way I like lol
I'm a budding architect and Interior designer in my dreams

Mammyloveswine · 10/11/2019 11:07

Oooh I love looking round showrooms of new builds! DH got me info that... we also look around kitchen and bathroom showrooms and pretend we have lots of money to redo our current house (to each other, we don't waste the time of the staff)

I also feel reassured that I'm not alone in this

Ha, I do it all the time, don’t worry about it. I love interior design and am constantly thinking of new ideas, new materials I could use, researching possibilities... I’m one of those nosy people who looks through people’s windows at night. I love to see how they have decorated. There’s a house I’ve loved the outside of for a while and I happened to get stuck in traffic outside it at nighttime for the first time last week so I could see into the living room. Such a treat! It was exactly the style I had imagined. I also look up houses I see for sale and generally have a look at everything in my local area. Seeing all of the different styles and ways of living is fascinating. I always feel disappointed by very expensive houses which are poorly furnished. It isn’t even that the owners have bad taste, they seem to have no personal taste at all.

It’s just another facet of my hobby/obsession along with the magazines, books, blogs, social media apps, forums etc... Blush

My husband says I have an unhealthy obsession with the local property market. I don’t (well maybe a little bit) but I just love to look at what is for sale in the local area. Especially of a similar size to mine and fantasise about moving. Not that I can be arsed really. But if the perfect house in the perfect location came up...

maddiemookins16mum · 10/11/2019 11:30

YANBU, I play property porn regularly. Give myself a budget and a town and I’m off. Yesterday I blew 850K in Henley on Thames.

BrieAndChilli · 10/11/2019 11:34

God I am obsessed with Rightmove!! I look at it everyday
I have several ‘dream’ houses on the go at any one time.
One that we could afford a mortgage for IF we could ever get enough cash for a deposit.
One of we won a million on the lottery and one of we one 10s of millions!!

sweetsaltypopcorn · 10/11/2019 11:37

I love using rightmove to spy inside neighbours' houses that are for sale Grin

Next door but one is currently on the market and I'm itching to give them some advice GrinBlush

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/11/2019 11:39

I love Rightmove. Found a lovely property www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-57620448.html

StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/11/2019 11:40

Rightmove is a tool that allows you to nosey around other people’s houses for free. Who WOULDN’T enjoy that? They’re the weirdos.

WaningGibbous · 10/11/2019 11:40

I have at least 40 mansions houses saved in my Rightmove for when I win the lottery. Plus houses where I live now and where I've lived before.

CoisFarraige · 10/11/2019 11:48

I've found my tribe. I love doing this too. We've no intentions of moving for at least 10 years but I regularly check out the property websites anyway. My SIL was looking for a house recently with a budget about three times what we could ever spend, so I had a great time exploring the possibilities and sending them to her - they call me 'Kirsty' 😂

Oysterbabe · 10/11/2019 11:53

I'd probably change its name from Sewage Farm.

Hawkmoth · 10/11/2019 11:59

I have a lifelong (since I was 4/5) recurring dream where I buy/inherit a house with everything left in it. They are often very long dreams with me emptying drawers, finding secret doors and pottering around for ages. Rightmove is a bit like that, but not quite.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 10/11/2019 12:03

It’s my hobby as well! Though more often than not I’m disappointed in the way it’s furnished and decorated, the best property porn for houses decorated beautifully are luxury holiday homes, so I tend to go on a lot of those sites as well as not only are they decorated to my standards they are in stunning locations too.

Clutterbugsmum · 10/11/2019 12:06

DD1 and I do this as well, although we like finding the house with 'surprising' interior designs.

We pick a random location and go from there.

PenCreed · 10/11/2019 12:07

TaliZorah those water towers are amazing! I love a good RightMove snoop.

user1493413286 · 10/11/2019 12:08

I like doing this; I’m very nosey and I like to know what’s comparable prices in the area

Bluerussian · 10/11/2019 12:09

That is a hobby of mine too. I live in hope :-).

Mammyloveswine · 10/11/2019 12:11

I love that others do this too Grin

PositiveVibez · 10/11/2019 12:13

We nearly moved at the beginning of the year, but after the chain collapsed we decided to stay put, but I still check Rightmove every day haha. I always look for houses up to £400k (very top in our area), just to daydream.

Beveren · 10/11/2019 12:15

"Extensive potential for improvement" combined with a total lack of interior photographs suggests the sewage farm virtually needs to be rebuilt.
