To spend time looking at houses on rightmove?

Mammyloveswine · 10/11/2019 10:52

So I have a secret hobby... I spend hours searching houses on rightmove and then plan how I would furnish/redcorate etc...

I don't even choose big houses, I often go for cheaper houses or flats and imagine if it was just me and the kids so I could decorate it exactly how I want Grin and not have DHs input/shite to factor in Blush

Feel free to share yours!

I love this one. I was brought up on this road and we always thought it was haunted!

I love doing this! I check my local solicitors’ property website almost daily. I justify it by claiming I want to know what’s in the local market for when we move. There’s no way we’re going to move for at least five years but that’s beside the point!
I look in a few categories as well:

  • houses that are realistically our next move
  • houses we could buy and do a heap of work to to turn it into our dream home. This is my ideal but DH is annoyingly less than enthusiastic about any sort of renovation
  • houses that I could buy and do up if I could follow my dreams of being a property developer. A distinct lack of capital is the big thing holding me back!
  • houses I would buy if we won the lottery. I think it’s important to know what’s out there for when that moment comes! Grin

I love that so many other people do this too! Also, I just stick the city I live in but think I might start casting my net wider!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/11/2019 20:15

Yes I love this too, especially if I find the same type of “new build” (it’s not new but you know what I mean)

There’s a whole thread on money saving expert devoted to unusual properties, there are some beauties on there

I also look in my old town from growing up to see if anyone I knows house is for sale.

I also look in MILs seaside town for a holiday home for us and in DSis town for a house I would buy her!

I also look at the listing for my Nans house that was sold a few years ago as I was gutted when it was sold when she went into a nursing home. They lived there 5+ years and was the heart of the family and it was my happy place - much happier than home.

KitKat1985 · 10/11/2019 20:19

Oh I spend hours on Rightmove sometimes picking what I'd buy with various imaginary budgets... Blush

isseywith4vampirecats · 10/11/2019 20:30

despite moving only four months ago i still like to trawl right move just to see whats out there and what prices houses in our area are fetching

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/11/2019 20:38

I'm now thinking this might be my lottery buy Christmas cottage

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-65424717.html

It doesn't have the amazing view of my lake district house, but then this is made up for by the fact that Bakewell appears to be the most beautiful little village.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/11/2019 21:00

That cottage is a stunner, it makes me feel all warm and cosy looking at it

Beveren · 10/11/2019 21:01

I want this one in Cornwall, for the views alone - www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-65846205.html

WaningGibbous · 10/11/2019 21:09

TheGirlFromStoryville I had to look twice at the toilet in the kitchen there Hmm Grin

lakeswimmer · 10/11/2019 21:14

I've found my people...I do this too. I pick a budget and decide which house I'd buy; how I'd decorate it, furnish it, update it. This week I've chosen a new kitchen and the hall and stairs paint colour for a 16th century cottage a couple of miles from where I currently live Grin

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/11/2019 22:18

Those views are gorgeous Beveren I'm a sucker for this house

I love when houses for sale have matterport so I can 'walk' round the whole thing. Just go up to the master bedroom and look out of the window!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/11/2019 22:45

I could have a ride on mower

FooOOOOoooofffffff · 10/11/2019 22:50

I want this
fixer upper . It would need another 50 to 100k spent on it but it would be amazing.

sammi0805 · 10/11/2019 23:04

icantreachthepretzels I cant believe the didnt take the Calvin's out of the master en-suite wash basket!

Spidey66 · 10/11/2019 23:05

Bloody hell if I sold my 2 bed flat in London I could afford a 16 bed mansion in fraserburgh and have change.

catsmother · 10/11/2019 23:14

When I'm feeling especially anxious and unable to sleep due to all the shite circulating round my head, I get onto Rightmove and fantasise about how it'd be to live a different life, in a different house, in a different area. And usually have a small number of houses, nothing extraordinary, in mind with which to play this game that I return to night after night . Very pathetically, I've often felt genuinely distraught when they've sold... after weeks or months of me planning alterations, 'choosing' colour schemes and just generally indulging myself with notions of the parallel universe represented by these houses where I'm able to live happily.

foooookinghell · 10/11/2019 23:25

I'm the same! And when we stay somewhere one of the first things I do is get on right move. I also look around show homes on new developments under the guise I am interested in buying!!

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/11/2019 23:27

sammi Ha! I've never spotted them - you have good eyes.

Judemahmoodid · 10/11/2019 23:39

I spend a lot of time on Rightmove. But I get the absolute rage when no floorplan is included.

These are two I’m currently refurbishing in my head, despite them both being sold.

This one I’d actually raze to the ground, rebuild a modern monstrosity in its place and sell it to a footballer. In fact if you look at the map and tick the satellite option, the next door neighbour is in the process of doing exactly that.

Bluerussian · 10/11/2019 23:51

Spidey, would you really want to leave the London area?
I could buy three swish modern 2 bed, 2 bath apartments in some areas if I sold my house but I like where I live.

Bluerussian · 10/11/2019 23:53

At the moment, I am fancying Bickley and Chatterton Village which is near there but more quirky.

In a year's time I'll still be where I am I expect but it's nice to look.

Runbikeswim · 11/11/2019 00:06

God I love Rightmove, you'd have to be mad not to.

I spend hours looking at houses in places I could be mortgage free in if I sold mine and have a different life. But only if they get the same or less rain than where I live 😂

I have noticed time spent on Rightmove seems to be directly correlated with how crap I am feeling about work.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-81865043.html another of my dreams, probably my favourite
