Jon Snow - Embarrassing to watch

Fuzzywuzzywuzzy · 29/10/2019 19:37

Why is he still a presenter on Channel 4 News?

Not for the first time, he is stumbling through an interview this evening.

It is especially galling when women newsreaders are retired much earlier, not due to incompetence but due to looks. And to think that this is still happening in this day and age.

At first you were talking about GOT Jon Snow .

Myimaginaryfamiliarhasfleas · 29/10/2019 19:41

I like Jon Snow but I sort of agree, I've noticed he seems to struggle with the autocue and the slips are becoming more frequent. He is probably not quite as on it as he needs to be for a main anchor.

HelenaDove · 29/10/2019 19:44

OP Channel 4 news foreign correspondent is an older woman.

HelenaDove · 29/10/2019 19:45

Maybe there was light on the autocue or something.

Winterdaysarehere · 29/10/2019 19:46

Ffs was thinking you meant THE Jon Snow.....

madamedesevigne · 29/10/2019 19:48

I thought there must have been a mix up/last minute panic in the news room, maybe he was being told the wrong thing through his ear piece as he announced the wrong item. I think he’s great and will be very sorry when he retires.

HelenaDove · 29/10/2019 19:49

I think Jon Snow IS on it. Especially when it comes to inequality and reporting on Grenfell.

Horehound · 29/10/2019 19:51

I think he's good. I think in his older age he has started to let his own opinions in...and I like it :)

LoonyLunaLoo · 29/10/2019 19:54

I was thinking of the other Jon Snow too. He’s definitely not embarrassing to watch...

onalongsabbatical · 29/10/2019 19:54

He's a superb presenter. Yes he stumbles sometimes but I usually get the impression it's through excited engagement with the subject, which is pretty good to still have in spades at his age after a long career. People really like him. And he's a very, very good interviewer, asking the pertinent questions in a strong but not aggressive way. So yes, YABVVVVU.

loveautum · 29/10/2019 19:58

I love his ties and socks... sorry not relevant to your post I know, but I do really like him like part of the furniture 😊

Babdoc · 29/10/2019 19:59

I agree entirely, OP. I've thought for ages that he really ought to retire. And yes, if he were female, he'd have been sacked years ago.
It's painful listening to him repeating " Um, I mean...um, you know...um" throughout every damn interview.
They could use his experience behind the scenes, but he really shouldn't be in front of the camera any more. He's trading on past glories, but running on empty.

1066vegan · 29/10/2019 20:04

I don't often catch Channel 4 news because the time doesn't work for me, but I follow Jon Snow on twitter and really like him.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 29/10/2019 20:06

Hmm a thread to drum up interest in sacking someone because they are supposedly past it?

ssd · 29/10/2019 20:08

He was stumbling a lot at the grenfell tower piece today, but I still like him. He's normal.

Fatted · 29/10/2019 20:08

I'm another one who thought of GOT. Blush Although I must admit the entire last series was a bit embarrassing TBH.

EleanorReally · 29/10/2019 20:11

I'm a fan

HelenaDove · 29/10/2019 20:15

"mm a thread to drum up interest in sacking someone because they are supposedly past it"

Yes and a stark contrast when you consider the recent Back To 60 thread where a lot of posters were saying how people should never stop working , work is good for you, state pension is a benefit, yadda yadda yadda!

The ageism on here is disgusting. One minute older people are being vilified for stopping work, the next posters want them put out to pasture.

DontCallMeShitley · 29/10/2019 20:17

I like him because he speaks proper English unlike many of the younger ones.

DontCallMeShitley · 29/10/2019 20:19

Should have said Queen's English really. There are some people on TV that I struggle with, I can understand Jon Snow and relate to him.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 29/10/2019 20:33

He knows nothing.

Pharlapwasthebest · 29/10/2019 20:33

@ChaosisntapitChaosisaladder19
So did I, I was SO confused for a minute!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/10/2019 20:34

I've had a few glasses of wine and thought this was a GOT thread

Justanotherlurker · 29/10/2019 20:45

Jon Snow has been embarrassing for a while now, he is the epitome of being woke become broke meme, but that is 4 news in general as they have been dire and pushing agendas for years now.

The day he tried to highlight how a particular protest was predominantly white was his particular downfall.

Some still think IDPOL is a good thing to follow though so we have more to come.

Fuzzywuzzywuzzy · 29/10/2019 20:50

GOT? I was wondering what that meant. Sorry I don't watch Game of Thrones. Maybe because I am an older person and not hip on the latest the latest must watch shows!

My point is not about ageism, but about competence no matter what age you are, what gender you are or how photogenic you are.

Jon Snow may well be good on Twitter (I don't do Twitter either) but as a mains newsreader, he is no longer the person he was.
