Apple won’t replace 3 month old charging cable no longer working properly

Had a new phone 3 months ago, cable in box and it seems to have a faulty connection. Intermittent charging.

Dh just taken it back and they’ve said it must be user error/ mishandling as no manufacturing fault on the outside they can see ie I must have broken it. They couldn’t say how I must have broken it or in what way but just that must be the reason. Hmm

I am very careful with anything electrical and have kept said cable in box, nobody else has used it.

Mild mannered DJ stormed out as said they were just being utterly ridiculous. He works in IT and is adamant there is something wrong with it not caused by use.We honestly can’t believe how crap their customer service is.

I know it’s only a cable but they’re not cheap and it’s the principle and they were so arrogant.Any ideas where to go from here?

You can buy cables from Poundland that work well.
They do get knackered quickly if you bend or fold them
Complete non issue

Abouttimemum · 26/10/2019 14:33

I think every charging cable I own is from the pound shop

Ineedanamechange79 · 26/10/2019 14:34

I use Anker ones. They are fab and much cheaper than apple.

M0nsterpumpk1n · 26/10/2019 14:35

Obviously not going to spend £30 on an Apple cable ever with customer service line that but it’s the principle. They’re not cheap and I’ve had Lidl cables last longer and would get better customer service.

They were so arrogant. Dh said it was like talking to a robot. “How can we make this better” “ Err replace this faulty cable””I’m sorry we can’t do that, how can I make this better”.Hmm

The teens have Anker, best get myself one.

Just go and buy one for a couple of quid. Non issue.

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2019 14:37

Apple charging cables are rubbish. Amazon sell better ones.

whatsleep · 26/10/2019 14:37

Email Apple customer service, shouldn’t really be a big deal for them to exchange it. The fact that you can buy a cheap imitation one from pound land is totally irrelevant. Apple products are high quality which is what you pay for when you buy the phone package. I’d be pissed too if they refused to replace it after such a short period of time.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/10/2019 14:37

I would say three months is average for s phone cable, they don’t last long. Just buy a budget one.

M0nsterpumpk1n · 26/10/2019 14:38

Not to me. They cost £30 in shop and are ripping people off with customer service like that. I don’t get how they get away with it. No sign of damage anywhere. No proof we’d damaged it.

Thing is though the phone will be easy to track when it was bought etc, a cable is a cable, for all they know it’s a knockoff you bought down the market last week and are trying to get a free one of course they aren’t going to replace it.
Just get one from the pound shop and move on. Complete non issue I wouldn’t even be giving this headspace or going to the shop.

LeftoverPizza · 26/10/2019 14:42

Just go to Poundland and get one

M0nsterpumpk1n · 26/10/2019 14:42

There is a serial number on the cable to match it to the very expensive phone we bought. Dh showed the invoice. It was absolutely clear it was the cable we bought from them 3 months ago.

Unclench!

Soontobe60 · 26/10/2019 14:45

This really surprises me. Both me and DH got our iPads replaced at the Apple Store when they were a couple of months out of warranty as they stopped working. No questions asked!

M0nsterpumpk1n · 26/10/2019 14:49

Can’t unclench, they’re ripping people off. Off to order my Anker fully clenched, I know they last for ever.

StrawberrySquash · 26/10/2019 14:49

A £30 cable should last longer than that. YANBU.

Tojigornot · 26/10/2019 14:59

The life expectancy varies massively depending on how you treat them. And you had it for 3 months, they have no idea what you have done with it in that time.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 26/10/2019 15:01

Apple chargers are SHIT.

My iPad won’t charge with an unofficial Apple one. But after 12 weeks max it’s fucked, same issue every time, every time they say it’s my fault.

Funnily enough the DCs Kindle chargers are still going strong 2 years later.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/10/2019 15:02

I've never had an Apple cable break Confused

SofiaAmes · 26/10/2019 15:07

Call the Apple customer service line and ask to have your call escalated. They will end up taking care of it. Was it purchased with a credit card that offers any extra warranty service.

TheFlis12345 · 26/10/2019 15:12

I have got apple cables at least 4 years old, never had a problem with one.

silentpool · 26/10/2019 15:12

Get a cheap charger. I bought one for a couple of quid and it works better than the original. I will never buy Apple products again, as they are not great. I'm stuck with an iPhone for work but wouldn't bother otherwise.

Alwaysfrank · 26/10/2019 15:16

Where an item is less than 6 months old I thought the retailer has a responsibility to repair or replace, under the Consumer Rights Act?

heartsonacake · 26/10/2019 15:21

Has it been intermittent at charging for the last 3 months? And if so, why not take it back as soon as you noticed?

They have no idea what you’ve done to it in 3 months.
