To wonder what the worst swear word is?

To wonder how swear words vary in severity. To me, I think they’re all as bad as each other however, some believe that bitch, for example, is mild and not as bad as fuck.

For me, it’s pussy. I know cunt is the ‘worst’ one but it’s really no different to calling someone a dick. With pussy (and it’s generally boys and young men using it towards each other) it implies that they are being wimpish/weak and that is somehow comparable to female genitalia even though we CAN LITERALLY PUSH A HUMAN OUT OF THERE, SO HOW ARE THEY WEAK I ASK YOU?!

I also agree about bitch used by men, generally in an aggressive way to put down any woman they don’t like or they feel threatened by. Don’t mind so much if it’s an actually nasty woman being referred to as a bitch as I think it is a bit different...

maddening · 15/10/2019 22:57

I remember looking up the word. "fuck" in the dictionary at primary school and the definition was "to fuck screw" - we were. Non the wiser to what it meant, just that it was. A naughty word 😂

I personally don’t use twat or cunt - too awful IMO
Anything else goes

LonginesPrime · 15/10/2019 23:08

Gash

Love51 · 15/10/2019 23:09

Obviously racial slurs are offensive. I file them in a different part of my brain to the bodily function swears, and blasphemy is another category again.
For some reason misogyny goes in with the bodily function swears - bitch, cunt and fuck are all in the same place.
The body swears are the only ones I'd use. Blasphemy seems really rude and disrespectful to any people of faith, but maybe that's because I'm a former person of faith. Racial slurs are out.
So, fuck is fine so long as you don't say oh my f-ing g--. Body swears are a rich descriptive part of our language. If I heard someone say f-ing n word, (or f-ing bitch) it wouldn't be the f-ing part I would be taking issue with.

InkyFingersInkyFace · 15/10/2019 23:25

Had no idea 'tits' was considered such a bad word, compared to boobs, breasticles or most usual words for them.

Until in a socially anxious moment a few years ago, I said 'tits' when I would normally have mumbled 'boobs' while gesturing in the general direction of my own dear breasticles, and I had to have a special meeting with the leader of that particular parenting group (no kids were present at the time of the said fuck-up, I hasten to add).

I felt so ashamed. But also confused because the language of most the people on the same course, was typical of the area. Something I embraced actually, I love a good bit of language in context (specially the weirder words, like 'breasticles', did I mention that?)

Cunt is a favourite of mine but said in the wrong way/moment/ to the wrong person/ etc, it really is vile. Regardless of what my friends say about it being too good a word to call someone on the basis that cunts have depth and charm, unlike the people who need calling something.

InkyFingersInkyFace · 15/10/2019 23:27

Oh - and I guess I didn't mention racist words because they're beyond swears to me, they're more than swears, worse than the worst swears. So any of those are top of the list. THEN cunt.

InsertFunnyUsername · 15/10/2019 23:28

None offend me and Cunt gets a bad rep. I cant see how it's any worse than calling someone a Dick, yet people lose their minds.

I dislike Slag though and dont use it as an insult, probably because that's the first thing a young girl is called at some point. Still doesn't offend me, just something I dont say.

InkyFingersInkyFace · 15/10/2019 23:28

(and lastly, porkflaps is so much better than pissflaps, it's actually our name for bacon but is based on the word pissflaps... Look, it all makes sense if you know me)

Finfintytint · 15/10/2019 23:31

Flouncyfanny, bit further down into Wales but equally frustrating.

Caucho · 15/10/2019 23:36

‘Ist’ words first but then after that probably cunt. I work in a professional and yet sometimes sweary environment. Shit doesn’t register, F bomb might raise an eyebrow (depends on the situation) and cunt whilst acceptable in rare circumstances would raise a higher Roger Moore type one.

Bitch depends on the circumstances and sometimes is ok for some reason (it can sometimes be applied to men too though) but other misogynistic ones like slut slag etc fall into the ‘ist’ category.

Retard caused an issue with a woke type. It was only one bloke who used it and wasn’t in relation to mentally disabled people. He just said it about clients / contemporaries he thought were a bit (well going to get myself into trouble now) not bright but got his arse handed to him

I’ve met some Scottish people who consider cunt to be a term of affection Smile

MrsCrabbyTree · 16/10/2019 04:54

My 6 year old grandson told me he knew the worst swear word. When asked what it was, he whispered "dick". Innocent child he is!

Durgasarrow · 16/10/2019 05:40

Cunt. I still can't believe how you English folk use that word, i.e, " give that little cunt her bottle," etc. Just kidding! Kind of.

Teensruletheroost · 16/10/2019 07:54

Cunt. I still can't believe how you English folk use that word,

Despite this thread, I would say that the vast majority of English people don’t use that word.

summersherewishiwasnt · 16/10/2019 12:39

Racial slurs are not swear words
I think the word depends on context and whom is present.
Fuck off cunty chops for example , I personally would laugh at in the company of friends and family but won’t say that to my boss later if I disagree with their ideas.

Bluntness100 · 16/10/2019 12:43

Cunt, in fact the dictionary classifies it as the most offensive swear word across the population and close to using the n word.

I've no idea why so many women seem to like it on mumsnet, half the time it reads like they think they are being cool and edgey.

Bluntness100 · 16/10/2019 12:44

I’ve met some Scottish people who consider cunt to be a term of affection

Good for you. But I'm Scottish and for the 30 odd years I lived there I met no human who felt this way. It was as hated in Scotland as anywhere else.

Your acquaintances are not representative.

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 16/10/2019 12:47

I say fuck and shit and bastard frequently (though would never say fuck or bastard in front of my mother LOL!) I've never, ever used the 'c' word in speech, and have never written it out in full because I detest the word. I've never called anyone a slag or slut, both horrid words, but I have used the word bitch.

Pardonwhat · 16/10/2019 12:51

Bluntness100

And maybe your acquaintances aren’t representative?

‘Cont’ is almost a term of endearment near me. I’m not sure if it originated from Cunt.

For me the worst ones are Cunt and Twat.

RubbingHimSourly · 16/10/2019 12:52

Anything disablist / racist.........my dp actually went looking for a woman who repeatedly used the word spastic at full volume around our disabled DC (( we were queueing for something in the dark and couldn't pinpoint who it was ))

rededucator · 16/10/2019 13:59

I think it's the intention behind the word rather than the word itself. I might call a very good friend a cheeky cunt and mean no malice but there's something about a straight person referring to a gay person as a 'fag' that I find vile.
