Boycott Amazon as they are using Hermes for their deliveries

I've just had a "delivery" from Amazon which was actually done by Hermes. I boycott any company that uses Hermes (looking at you Lakeland) as Hermes just dumps and runs. So yet again a Hermes delivery of the Amazon parcel was dumped on my doorstep, with no ring or knock to say it was here. I had actually cancelled the parcel because it was being delivered by Hermes, but couldn't reject the parcel as I was never given the option.

I have a Prime membership and the delivery has always been great, with a little map saying when they will be delivering to you so you can be in place ready to receive the parcel. But with Hermes I think they deliver by stealth as I have never once been able to see them before them dump the parcel (sometimes just in the front garden).

Other than complain, again, what else can I do? I've already told them that unless they stop delivering my parcels with Hermes that I will not order from them. I feel that if more people complained and refused to use them, then they would stop using this awful company.

The Hermes delivery man round here is really great.

Dyrne · 22/09/2019 12:42

So you won’t boycott Amazon because of their exploitation of their workers; but you’ll happily boycott them because they use a delivery company that makes it inconvenient for you Hmm

Such a Social Justice Champion, you’re inspiring...

SpartanInTartan · 22/09/2019 12:43

I've never had a problem with Hermes.

Lockheart · 22/09/2019 12:43

YABU.

Iaseol · 22/09/2019 12:44

Same as fuzzy, my local hermes delivery man is great.

OldGreyBoots · 22/09/2019 12:44

Dyrne my thoughts exactly. OP, YABU.

norfolkskies · 22/09/2019 12:44

never had a problem with hermes. Surely if you have a problem with hermes being used by amazon, you should be boycotting amazon since they employ hermes!

yabu!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/09/2019 12:46

I get parcels from amazon and they are delivered by anyone and everyone. ...even the real actual Postie sometimes.

Singlebutmarried · 22/09/2019 12:46

Our local Hermes chap is ace.

WanderingMind · 22/09/2019 12:47

Our Hermes guy is brilliant. No complaints here!

BarrenFieldofFucks · 22/09/2019 12:48

I like Hermes and actively choose them quite often. Our local chap is great.

Zebraaa · 22/09/2019 12:49

Another fan of Hermes

Celebelly · 22/09/2019 12:50

I order a ton from Amazon, and the delivery company entirely depends on where the parcel is coming from, timing, if it's a third party seller. For example, I ordered two items on the same day at the same time: one came with Amazon's own delivery guy, the other came with DPD. Sometimes stuff comes with Hermes, sometimes Yodel, sometimes Royal Mail.

Our Hermes man is great anyway and he lives a few doors up so we get our parcel really quickly.

YouFellAsleeep · 22/09/2019 12:50

Amazon have used Hermes and DPD for ages. I’ve got Prime too, most parcels are delivered by Amazon but sometimes by other couriers. It’s hardly Amazon’s fault if you Hermes driver is useless. My deliveries from Hermes have always been fine.

MaryShelley1818 · 22/09/2019 12:51

No problems with Hermes.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 22/09/2019 12:51

Our Hermes lady is fantastic.

Did you get your parcel though?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/09/2019 12:54

I'd be more inclined to use them if they use Hermes. The Amazon guys can be a nightmare. I've had several occasions when they claim something has been delivered and yet it is nowhere to be seen.

mencken · 22/09/2019 13:00

Amazon. Excess packaging, terrible worker conditions, tax avoidance....

the crappy delivery is the least of the issues. BTW they are generally more expensive anyway.

general principle - if it is being delivered, it should be post office or nothing, as they are passing by anyway. We need to cut back massively on all these courier vans. That will of course mean job losses but combatting climate change is a little more than wagging school and waving banner.

AuntieMarys · 22/09/2019 13:01

I'm on first name terms with my Hermes chap

MonicaGB · 22/09/2019 13:03

Sanctimonious lot who say they never use Amazon for deliveries. When you are sometimes house bound there are few options. Glad to here it's so great on your high horses.

I have cancelled my prime membership and will not use them in future if they continue to use Hermes as extracting soggy parcels from the front garden is not great service. Would be h

I would be happy if Hermes were any good but most of their drivers give not one shit if the parcels are delivered.

I live in a small town so always have the same Hermes guy and he's fantastic. I always put my garage as my safe place as it's always unlocked but you need to walk down my (very long) drive which is round the house from my front door and then walk down the side of the garage to get to the door. Every other delivery company just leaves a "we attempted to deliver" card. The Hermes guy always makes the walk and goes into the garage and sits it on an empty workbench. I'm guaranteed to get my parcel if it's Hermes. The others will just take it away with them if I'm not in rather than walk to the safe place.

geekone · 22/09/2019 13:05

You really need to find something else to do. YABU.

Lulualla · 22/09/2019 13:06

Culltbeauty also use Hermes and I order from them once a month so I'd be screwed if I boycotted because of Hermes!

MonicaGB · 22/09/2019 13:06

I think some of the issue as well is that there are few options other than use Amazon. Even when I want to order small things, it seems that it's done via Amazon. So if I do need to order stuff I'll do it via the standard delivery and hope it's the actual positive that does it. I wish there were options to choose the type of delivery, like zooplus does.
