Really?? I have a holiday booked with them and haven't heard anything.

Shock

callow · 19/09/2019 21:05

Similar with me, I have a package holiday booked, flights are with Thomas Cook.

beverlymarsh · 19/09/2019 21:06

Same here. Stressing out now. Does anyone know if things do go tits up: does the package company find alternative flights or do we have to sort them out ourselves?

beverlymarsh · 19/09/2019 21:07

I have a package booked and the only TC element is the flights...

TeaLibrary · 19/09/2019 21:08

Is there any chance at all that a rescue deal will be implemented and your holidays can still go ahead??

beverlymarsh · 19/09/2019 21:12

There is still a chance yes. Its unclear yet what’s going to actually happen to TC. Apparently contingency plans are being drawn up to bring home 150k people from abroad to the UK, which sounds like a huge number to me!

Looks like deadline to sort it out is the end of next week. Could be a lot of people trying to rebook alternative holidays if it collapses.

Whatsername7 · 19/09/2019 21:21

Ring your local agent and check with your insurance. So sorry- it is truly crap. I hope your holiday isn't spoiled and they honour all holidays that have been 0aid for. Thomas Cook signed their own liquidation warrant when they refused to answer questions during the carbon monoxide trial regarding their actions that led to the deaths of those poor children in Corfu. Horrific company.

Sweetooth92 · 19/09/2019 21:25

We are due to fly on Monday on a two week holiday. All being well we shall still be going 🤞

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/09/2019 21:56

We go on 5th October - hooray! Confused

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/09/2019 21:57

Package holidays are ATOL protected so hopefully we’ll be ok financially! It will just be a pain booking something else last minute!

Level75 · 19/09/2019 21:58

I've just got a flight with them not a package. Eek!

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/09/2019 22:02

@Level75 If you paid on your credit card you should be ok?!

LoonyLunaLoo · 19/09/2019 22:03

We’re meant to be going in October half term. We only booked in August so they must have known what was happening by then and still gone ahead and taken bookings 😡

WarshipWarrior · 19/09/2019 22:19

They've been nearly going bust about 100 times in the last 15 years Confused are you all the people booking with them going to Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey etc - I call those the "oblivious people" who dont watch any news or speak to anyone about current affairs.

On a serious note I hope you all have travel cover and can claim.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/09/2019 22:33

It's almost exactly 2 years to the day since Monarch went bust. We were booked to fly with them 2 days afterwards and our flights, accomodation and hire car were all booked separately.

I'd seen stuff at the weekend that gave me a bad feeling and I got up that Monday morning, saw the news and immediately went looking for replacement flights,

Luckily I managed to find new flights from the same airport on the same dates as the Monarch flights that had just gone poof, so we could still go on holiday with just minor tweaks to our car hire and parking booking due to different flight times. The cost was £200 more than the original flights, but because I'd paid by credit card, we eventually got the cost of the Monarch flights and the extra £200 back. We did have scheduled airline cover on our travel insurance, but weren't actually covered because we hadn't flown out. All it would pay for was new flights to get the people already out there home. So if you need replacement flights, get looking fast and just stick them on a credit card if you can, as chances are you'll get your money back from the original booking eventully.

I'm glad I did that straight away, as just hours later, all the other flights got vvv expensive and then sold out. I saw return flights to the Med on Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet etc in the weeks following the Monarch collapse for over £1k pp Shock.

Friend was booked on a Monarch package at about the same time and they were offered the choice of their original destination, but flights from another UK airport about 200 miles away, or from a closer airport but somewhere else, they chose the latter.

If TC collapse, one useful source of info will be Monesavingexpert, to explain passenger rights, how to continue with your trip and get as much money lost back as possible. There's an article from earlier this year on the website, and I fully expect that if they do go bust, it will be updated and republished within hours.

www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2019/05/thomas-cook-reassures-customers-their-holidays-will-go-ahead---y/

But fingers crossed it will all get sorted and people are worrying about nothing.

Hecateh · 19/09/2019 22:43

They're still booking holidays/flights

But then again I'm 'oblivious' enough to go to Turkey (twice a year for the past 10 years) so I am clearly wrong.

I love holidays in Turkey, clean, safe and friendly

IcaMorgan · 19/09/2019 22:47

I’m due to fly home with them on the 8th Oct (fly out with Norwegian). I’m assuming teletext Holidays will sort it out

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/09/2019 23:07

We’re flying with EasyJet but booked through Thomas Cook so I’m not sure how that will work - I suppose it depends if Thomas Cook have paid them yet!

Singlebutmarried · 19/09/2019 23:09

Our whole lot is thru TC.

Been looking for same hotel to rebook on a last minute if needed and it’s three times the price I paid in March.

Not so last minute bargain.

GrungeBetty · 19/09/2019 23:23

I’ve got flights booked for November. Not been away in forever. Fuuuuck sake.

WaterSheep · 20/09/2019 06:45

Helpful advice about moneysavingexpert forum, thank you.

Bovneydazzlers · 20/09/2019 06:49

Warship what a judgemental post. Harsh to think that, and just odd to actually type comments, on a thread about package holidays.
