Keeping my fingers crossed as our outward bound flight on 3rd is TC. Really looking forward to this break. It is AWOL protected but don't think it will be likely that we can find an alternative with so many people being in a similar position

Flippidyflap · 21/09/2019 12:11

We have a day trip booked to Lapland in December and just checked our documents. There was no ATOL certificate so I called them and they’ve emailed it through. It’s worth checking your documents as it doesn’t seem that they have been sending them routinely.

OublietteBravo · 21/09/2019 15:14

We’re supposed to be going away with them at half term. I’m currently wondering whether to hang tight, or just book something else and accept I might have to write off the cost of the original holiday if they survive.

We didn’t have an ATOL certificate in our paperwork either. I contacted them and they’re emailing me a copy.

Hotpinkangel19 · 21/09/2019 16:17

Also booked for half term, not looking good at all, and those poor employees.....

jackstini · 21/09/2019 16:28

Also booked for half term - booked through Love holidays but the flights are TC

I used to work for them; be a shame if the oldest travel company went under so hoping they can be saved

When we nearly went under during the gulf war the board/top manager s took the highest pay cut of 10% store staff took 1-3%

JulietTango · 21/09/2019 17:16

Maybe BA could employ their pilots on a temporary contract

Laura221 · 21/09/2019 17:25

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything by now. We are due to fly at 7.30am on monday. I have had to pack today as our children have something on tomorrow morning then we are going straight to liverpool and staying in a travellodge before we fly. It's been a very weird day where I've been slack packing but I'm sure itll collapse before we go and then an hour later panicking that I've not got everything. Fingers crossed we all hear something soon. Must be awful for those employed by TC and not knowing if they have a job.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/09/2019 17:32

Monarch went under first thing on Monday morning, my prediction is that TC will do the same, which sorry Laura is worst for you because you won't be able to go anywhere on Monday.

Sweetooth92 · 21/09/2019 17:52

@Laura221 we are the same. Travelling tomorrow to stay at the airport before flying Monday. It’s a very odd situation of wanting to be prepared to go-but not being overly excited incase it doesn’t happen

HairyFloppins · 21/09/2019 17:58

I really feel for the employees. If they do get bailed out they need to bloody well sort out the management this time. But I really don't think they will get bailed out this time.

Hope all those that have booked get your holidays. Must be horrible being stuck in limbo.

Starlight456 · 21/09/2019 18:02

I was about to book yesterday but got sidetracked. Feeling lucky .

I was chatting to a trainee travel agent in tc the other day she was in her 40’s was her dream job. .. can’t help think of her today

LoonyLunaLoo · 21/09/2019 19:52

Thomas Cook are no longer selling holidays/ flights so I guess that’s it then... I just wish they’d tell the truth so we can try and find something else in time!

maddiemookins16mum · 21/09/2019 19:57

I feel for the thousands who’ll possibly lose their jobs, several of my closest friends now work for TC and went through the exact same thing in Oct 17 with Monarch.

ShitFuckBastardBollocks · 21/09/2019 20:02

Loony I've just looked and the websites are business as usual.

Let me book a holiday up til payment

Findumdum1 · 21/09/2019 20:05

I was hearing rumours about TC going bust 3 years ago. The city has known about it for months. They have an unsustainable business model. Im very surprised people habe still been booking with them this year.

theunknownknown · 21/09/2019 20:12

Thomas Cook are no longer selling holidays/ flights so I guess that’s it then
I think they are still selling but I doubt anyone is booking. Very sad for everyone especially staff.

ShitFuckBastardBollocks · 21/09/2019 20:26

I can't see any info they have ceased trading.

Notthecarwashagain · 21/09/2019 21:21

I'm due to be flying out mid October with DS.
Planned everything really carefully this time (or so I thought!) booked seats and car parking at the airport. Luckily not the airport Escape Lounge as couldn't get clarification on whether 12 year old DS was allowed to wear tracksuit trousers in there (he has asd and won't wear any other type of trousers)

Really worried about it all! I know there's ATOL protection but how long does a refund take, does anyone know?
I assume it wouldn't be in time to book another one this year? DS is so looking forward to it after a really crap year, and I don't want to have to tell him we're not going.

Hope it all works out for everyone, especially for TC staff.

ShitFuckBastardBollocks · 21/09/2019 21:25

I've read ATOL refunds are from 28 days to 6 months but because they will have so many to process it could be closer to the latter.

joblotbubble · 21/09/2019 21:27

Thomas Cook are no longer selling holidays/ flights so I guess that’s it then..

Oh for god sake. Thomas Cook are and will continue to trade. If they do fold that will be the point at which trading stops.

It's looking more likely that they won't escape here though. It's only a matter of time.

joblotbubble · 21/09/2019 21:27

I can't see any info they have ceased trading.

That's because they haven't!

Notthecarwashagain · 21/09/2019 21:31

Thanks ShitFuckBastardBollocks, yeah bet they'll be swamped. Sad

Offredismysister · 21/09/2019 21:37

I’ve got a package holiday booked to go on Tuesday, but only flights are TC. If they go under & the main tour operator doesn’t offer me alternative flights I’ll just book a different holiday on my CC and wait for a refund. I’ll be disappointed yes, but it’s not the end of the world.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 21/09/2019 21:48

I’m another one due to fly on Monday.. I can find alternative flights with another airline, but I don’t want to book and find my original ones fly after all and I’ve paid twice?? Only the flights are TC. I booked the package through travel republic, but the ATOL certificate only seems to cover if TR go bust..

joblotbubble · 21/09/2019 22:06

I can't see how they can be saved Sad
