People on TCS FB page are saying they have had their holidays cancelled and refunds processed.

If they have done bust, they wouldn’t be processing any refunds.

sirfredfredgeorge · 22/09/2019 19:23

If they have done bust, they wouldn’t be processing any refunds

One of the main reasons they have a problem, is that they don't get any of the money from the banks for the payments, they keep it, 'cos they're pretty sure there's going to be a chargeback. So a company can indeed be cancelling holidays because they know they won't be able to deliver them (if they're going bust or simply restructuring and cancelling a huge load of them) and that will trigger a refund in most cases - unless the individuals paid by cash or cheque.

sirfredfredgeorge · 22/09/2019 19:26

I said the government have not ACTIONED any plan

Which is obviously disingenuous because it's the CAA who make and action the plan, not the government, and they indeed have started one (which may not be needed, as it wasn't the time before last)

Jenasaurus · 22/09/2019 23:06

just checked my Thomas Cook Package on the App and it still says its going ahead. How have people heard there holidays have been cancelled and refunded, is it by email

SarahHackey91 · 22/09/2019 23:11

Wow, I just saw this on the news. I have a holiday booked with them later in the year... My sister was stuck in Spain a few years ago because Monarch went bust. I guess I am slightly luckier than her. :-(

daffydowndilys · 22/09/2019 23:17

I think that they have announced that they are definitely going bust tonight ☹️

This seems to be the latest Sad
All packed and guess I’ll find out in the morning if they can get us an alternative flight..

OublietteBravo · 23/09/2019 01:36

ITV News says that they’re about to cease operating:

Sad times

Crap....due to go on a Thomas Cook holiday next week...
PinkSnowAndStars · 23/09/2019 02:19

Game over - it’s official now. It’s sad for the employees - and for everyone looking forward to a holiday 😢

Rafflesway · 23/09/2019 02:33

So very sorry for both staff and customers.

The end of an era. 😥

20viona · 23/09/2019 03:06

It's truly a sad day when a company as prolific over the years can go into administration like this. The poor staff I feel for. I was due to fly with them next month i believe I'll be able to claim back on my credit card for the flights but my hotel was non refundable through Expedia so I can't do anything about that I would imagine.

Mothership4two · 23/09/2019 03:06

TC have collapsed and planes are being impounded. Government is having to step in to repatriate Brits stranded abroad.

Sad
Laura221 · 23/09/2019 05:03

I'm so upset for all those people who have woken up to no jobs. I cant imagine how that feels. To us we just missed out on a holiday, it's not the end of the world. Who knows how those people are going to cope without jobs. We would be screwed if one of us lost a job. So sad.

neverendingflorist · 23/09/2019 09:09

How awful :(

Starlight456 · 23/09/2019 12:41

It is fine for people to feel upset about there holidays as well as feeling sorry for the staff. The two are not mutually exclusive.

PerfectPenquins · 23/09/2019 13:00

I wish people would stop trying to undermine how people who have lost holidays feel. Of course we are all sorry for the staff that doesn't mean we cant feel sorry for what we've lost aswell.

incontrolofmyownlife · 23/09/2019 13:04

We had flights booked with them for a holiday next month.

Managed to get different flights this morning but just hoping we can recoup the money from the TC flights 🤞🏻

whocanbebothered · 23/09/2019 13:23

My FB is full of people ranting about "people moaning about their holidays when people have lost their jobs" - I feel terrible for anyone who has lost their jobs; I've been there and its horrible. Doesn't mean I am not justified to be severely disappointed that I've lost my holiday that I worked hard for and was so looking forward to. We will be covered by ATOL but you can't submit claims until at least the 30th Sept, and they estimate 2 months for a refund, which is no use for us trying to get something in the short-term (supposed to fly on Saturday). Not o mention the fact we have just thrown money away on things like lounge booking for airport, Turkish visas, all our holiday clothes that we won't get any use out of for another year (highly doubt I will still be this dress size then!), the beauty treatments I've pre-paid for the trip - I will still use them but the point is, if I was sitting at home for a week I wouldn't' have bothered. Its cost a fortune in things we can't claim back and I am very, very said about it. We don't have "disposable" income, so this is a loss we are really going to feel.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 23/09/2019 13:56

Agreed. I feel terrible for staff that have lost their jobs. But I was meant to be getting on a plane right now and that feels pretty rubbish too. Luckily I was able to book a completely different break for tomorrow, but I’ve had to pay out of my savings while I wait for the refund of the original booking.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 23/09/2019 14:31

I do feel bad for those who have lost their jobs but as another poster said I have worked very hard for this holiday which was also supposed to be our honeymoon. Was meant to be going to Greece for 10 days in the October holidays and there is no way I’ll get my money back In time to book something else. Can’t make any claim until 30th September and my bank won’t even help even though I should have some cover with the Direct debit guarantee, other people I know phoned their bank and were charge backed straight away but Bank of Scotland won’t do it

SimpleAndPlanned · 23/09/2019 14:42

My local travel agent has people queued outside the door (its a large building inside so I don't know how big this queue is) and has done all day. Feel so bad for them.

LoonyLunaLoo · 23/09/2019 18:26

Our Tui travel agent had people queuing out the door too. I managed to book Italy instead of Turkey (Turkey flights were stupid o’clock, I think most of he flight must have been Thomas Cook) and it was the same price as Turkey. I’m looking forward to Italy even more as we’ll be able to get out rather than just hang around in the hotel. We’ll get our money back eventually so I feel very lucky, if not a little wiped out from trying to juggle booking a new holiday with work. I’m lucky I have work though!

maddiemookins16mum · 23/09/2019 18:45

I’m ex Tour Operator staff (the last big one that went 2 years ago). It was horrendous over those first few days after the collapse. Upset customers (quite rightly), distraught staff (who’d worked for the company for years) who stayed in resort (unpaid) to help the CAA get all customers home and put up with awful abuse including being spat at and slapped.
It is a very sad day for the travel industry although Tui and Jet2 will do very nicely out of it. Supply and Demand and all that.
