I’ve got travel insurance so alls not lost.

Husband is in travel and has had to go in today to change flights in anticipation. Not sure if there's anything official yet but they're definitely expecting it.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/09/2019 10:13

Onion

The £100 rule, as to whether it applies to the whole thing or individual flights is unclear but we did get all our money back, despite all the individual elements (flights, bags) being less than £100.

I would definitely claim, if they go bust, it seems inevitable, but we shouldn't talk as if it was a done deal, and if they reject on the grounds of the £100 rule, appeal to the financial ombudsman.

After all, if you had a dispute with a fencing contractor, they wouldn't reject a £500 claim for a shoddy fence install because each individual panel cost £80 would they?

WaterSheep · 22/09/2019 13:03

I went in today to sort out some money and the woman kept telling people it's just media speculation. Hmm I understand it's not a nice situation for the employees, but surely lying isn't going to help ease people's worries.

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 13:38

She isn't lying. She is bottom of the list of people to know. They have to trot out whatever the HR department have told them. It's not her fault.

Bellasblankexpression · 22/09/2019 14:16

My friend is stuck in Tunisia, they have shut them in the hotel and are forcing them to pay the balance of the holiday because Thomas cook haven’t paid them Confused

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 14:25

That's the fault of the hotel not TC. It's perfectly normal in this situation for the hotel to be paid after the event. Just like companies invoice each other for services all the time across the world. I'm sorry for your friend, but the hotel has acted atrociously towards its guests, the hotels business contract is with TC. I hope that this hotel is never used by any of the remaining (or RC if a miracle saves them) travel companies ever again.

Bellasblankexpression · 22/09/2019 14:29

Yes I’m not disputing that but I’d be concerned about other hotels doing the same. Hopefully it’s not the norm. Lots of people simply don’t have the money to pay again once they’re there and nobody at Thomas cook seems to be able to help (I imagine it’s above their position). Seems the hotel has got nervous they won’t be paid.. think it’s made the press this morning.

Hope everyone who has holidays booked gets to go (and come home smoothly) or gets their money back

OublietteBravo · 22/09/2019 14:30

Well that true, isn’t it? Until the outcome of today’s negotiations is known is is just media speculation. They could still reach an agreement which allows them to keep trading.

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 14:34

Yes I’m not disputing that

You literally said 'because Thomas Cook haven't paid them Confused'

Thomas Cook haven't paid them because payment isn't due yet. The media are making such an arse of this reporting. Sensationalist nonsense.

ShitFuckBastardBollocks · 22/09/2019 14:45

People on TCS FB page are saying they have had their holidays cancelled and refunds processed.

Phone calls and emails sent out.

Darbs76 · 22/09/2019 14:49

It’s not media speculation - the government is ready to ship back UK travellers

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 14:53

@Darbs76

A lot of the talk surrounding this IS media speculation. Nobody knows. The government haven't activated any rescue plan yet. That isn't even speculation, it's simply untrue.

sirfredfredgeorge · 22/09/2019 15:00

The government haven't activated any rescue plan yet. That isn't even speculation, it's simply untrue.

Malaysian planes are flying to the UK at the moment to be used for a rescue, so plans are certainly in place, doesn't guarantee they will be required of course.

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 15:04

ONE..A singular A380 is inbound MAN. As sensational as it gets. As yet the reason is pure speculation (not saying it isn't for rescue flights because the likelihood is it will be) but the point of my post was that it was not the U.K. government who actioned this.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 22/09/2019 15:12

Thanks to joblotbubble for some common sense on this thread.

The situation in Tunisia is totally unacceptable, but it's one hotel and in any other country the local police would be ensuring the guests were allowed to leave. The lesson here is not to go to Tunisia.

Bellasblankexpression · 22/09/2019 15:17

@joblotbubble I was quoting what the hotel was saying to the guests. Not saying it was correct.

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 15:20

It wasn't written as a quote. No surprise I didn't read it as a quote.

Tensixtysix · 22/09/2019 15:23

Are there any travel agents left?

Bellasblankexpression · 22/09/2019 15:27

@joblotbubble I don’t know why you’re trying to start an argument - I was just explaining myself in answer to your last post. I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear, I probably didn’t word it correctly.
I agree that the media have got a lot to answer for - even in the instance of my friend they’ve made it sound even more dramatic than it actually is from what she’s said. It’s not ideal but they’re not being held at gunpoint by guards like the Daily Mail seems to want people to believe!

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 15:29

I'm not tying to start an argument Hmm

Bellasblankexpression · 22/09/2019 15:32

Fair enough.
Anyway I hope it all gets resolved for people. It sounds like TC are doing what they can to help people due to fly home and hopefully those that are due to fly out will know more soon.

Jenasaurus · 22/09/2019 15:35

I have a 2 week holiday booked with TC for 4 people in December. I booked a year ago for specific room types with early bird booking discount. I doubt I will be able to afford the same with a refund. Fingers crossed it gets sorted and stays afloat

OublietteBravo · 22/09/2019 15:46

People on TCS FB page are saying they have had their holidays cancelled and refunds processed.

Let’s apply some critical thinking to this information. Does this seem likely? And if it’s true, what does it mean? If they were about to go under, they wouldn’t be acting like this. So either it isn’t true, or it’s true and some sort of (partial?) agreement has been reached. Or it’s true, but unrelated to the bigger issue and only affects a small number of people (e.g. going to a particular destination).

Darbs76 · 22/09/2019 17:48

@joblotbubble - no the government hasn’t announced its rescue plan. It’s not going to until the official agreement. They have to act immediately repatriating UK citizens. Plans are well under way

joblotbubble · 22/09/2019 17:49

@Darbs76

I said the government have not ACTIONED any plan.
