Sapiosexual - AIBU to think this is bisexual by another name?

Apparently the new thing is sapiosexual - to be attracted to intelligence before gender. Surely that is just bisexual - why does it need another name?

I've known about this term for a while, but didn't think it came before gender, are you sure it hasn't been piggybacked by the non-binary trend?

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 19/09/2019 13:08

Bisexual is to be attracted to both males and females.

DrVonPatak · 19/09/2019 13:10

I wish the world would get a grip over this labelling mania.

WWlOOlWW · 19/09/2019 13:14

It's an old term. Just means you are attracted to someone's intelligence over what they look like.

Can be for all sexualitiea.

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2019 13:14

Attracted to intelligence. Righty ho.

Plexie · 19/09/2019 13:14

A quick Google suggests it's being sexually attracted to someone because of their intelligence. Nothing about gender preference.

Frangible · 19/09/2019 13:15

I'd say this was me, but I'm still straight. I just fancy clever people.

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2019 13:16

So initial attraction and love at first sight is out then?

WellButterMyArse · 19/09/2019 13:16

No, it's much cooler and more modern and forward thinking than mere bisexuality.

escapade1234 · 19/09/2019 13:18

Why do young people need labels for everything?

Can’t they just BE?

FlaviaAlbia · 19/09/2019 13:18

"I'll consider sleeping with anyone as long as they're not thick" probably doesn't sound as good on a dating profile though...

LemonAddict · 19/09/2019 13:20

Because everyone’s bisexual now so it’s become really common innit.

Only the real cool people are sapiosexual.

Whatisthisfuckery · 19/09/2019 13:23

It’s a load of old nonsense, just another I’m so special look at me thing.

Also I’m not attracted to someone because of their gender, I’m attracted to people of a specific sex. I’m no more attracted to a male who wears traditional male attire than to a male who wears skirts and dresses. I’m interested in people who are female. I’m not attracted to all females but all the people who I’m attracted to are female. Don’t get sex and gender confused when it comes to sexual orientation. This is why there are now no lesbian spaces without males in them. Homosexual people are attracted to people of the same sex, heterosexual people are attracted to people of the opposite sex, and bisexual people are attracted to people of either sex.

flyingspaghettimonster · 19/09/2019 13:23

I thought that was pansexual?

Drogosnextwife · 19/09/2019 13:27

Because OP don't you know there has to be a proper name for EVERY SINGLE THING!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 13:27

When I was a student I had a thing about not being attracted to anyone who read The Sun. big turn off. Was that A Thing?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/09/2019 13:29
Confused
MadeleineMaxwell · 19/09/2019 13:31

Was that A Thing?

Shitragphobisexual

joystir59 · 19/09/2019 13:31

The opposite would be densosexual

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 13:32

Well there’s my next username sorted!

Drogosnextwife · 19/09/2019 13:32

I'm attracted to people with dark hair more than any other colour, I wonder if there is a title for that?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 13:33

Natural or dyed?

redcupbluecup · 19/09/2019 13:34

YANBU. If you would be in a relationship with both a male and female (no matter what attracts you to them) then your a bisexual. This is just another label. Seems to be a trend these days. It's getting boring.
