I have been on quite a few different forums/chat rooms in my time online, and tbh am getting slightly fed up with the constant barrage of insults that seem to be directed toward people who aren't professors in the English Language.

  1. There is nothing that says because someone spelt a word wrong they do not know what it meant.
  2. It is VERY rude to pick on people for maybe being less capable of you in this area, especially as some may have had learning difficulties or even dyslexia and
  3. Make your point??? If you don't agree with someone, surely you can just explain why?? Marking them up like it is some kind of test really doesn't help your argument.

oh, btw for those of you who are so pedantic, I made sure I spelt things right for you. I hope it is readable and understandable.

Only skimmed but surely it's not a cleak, it's a click?

I can't stand text speak and won't post to anyone asking anything in it because I can't bear to read it but I try not to anyone'grammar, it feels a bit below the belt. So I try, mostly, to disagree with the argument, not the sentence construction.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 20:58

It's actually clique, not that I'm being pedantic or anything.

lolol at cleak/click/clique.

StarryStarryNight · 08/08/2007 21:00

Lorayn,
I havent been on the thread discussed here, I dont know what you have said, or what others have said, only what you, and others have said on THIS thread, bearing in mind I just skimmed it.

You said you were sick of being ignored. That happens. Especially if you are new. I have only been here since May/June, it takes a little before you get recognised, and you may post quite a bit before your points are recognised, even noticed, it can be disheartening.

This place is not as fluffy and glittery and sparkling as others, with big welcome threads as soon as a newbie is spotted. But it is nice here.

Though I suspect, you have managed to launch yourself successfully into MN life tonight.

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 21:00

Yes, it is 'clique', lorayn. That's part of the joke. You have to be here a while, you see ...

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2007 21:01

I was JOKING!

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 21:02

Yet another comment about the fact that I'm new, ok, I get it, I'm new, I don't know the in-jokes.
hang me for it.

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/08/2007 21:03

or as www said,'click '. just relax into MN a wee bit, get to know people before you start upbraiding them or calling them old hags and you might find you like it.

StarryStarryNight · 08/08/2007 21:03

You are welcome Lorayn..

I was trying to be nice.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 21:03

Oh, and just like text doesn't portray your sarcasm it doesn't portray mine.

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/08/2007 21:04

lorayn would you get over yourself... we were all new once. MN's been going a long time, most of the people on this thread haven't been here a great deal longer than me i think. which as i said is only a year.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 21:04

Lol, that wasn't directed at you starry, sorry if it seemed to be!

OP posts:
HectorsHouse · 08/08/2007 21:04

I think you can tell from the that it was meant jocularly

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2007 21:04

I was laughing about the fact that people sometimes say click when they mean clique, not about the fact that you're new Lorayn. And I was joking as Aitch said cleak so I was amusing myself by suggesting click since for many people who like language, the use of click as interchangable with clique is one of life's bugbears.

Now I sound like a wanker!

you may not like us right now, but honestly, we're as funny as fuck.

Dust yourself down, work on your strategy, and come back afresh tomorrow.

... oh, and change your name

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 21:10

hahaha, I can't change my name now.
I'd have to go back to being a real newbie all over again, at least now I'm an annoying newbie that made a thread everyone hated, who is known.

what about MichaelFrayn? that's intellectual but still hints at your previous life.

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 21:11

That's a fair point!
