I have been on quite a few different forums/chat rooms in my time online, and tbh am getting slightly fed up with the constant barrage of insults that seem to be directed toward people who aren't professors in the English Language.

  1. There is nothing that says because someone spelt a word wrong they do not know what it meant.
  2. It is VERY rude to pick on people for maybe being less capable of you in this area, especially as some may have had learning difficulties or even dyslexia and
  3. Make your point??? If you don't agree with someone, surely you can just explain why?? Marking them up like it is some kind of test really doesn't help your argument.

oh, btw for those of you who are so pedantic, I made sure I spelt things right for you. I hope it is readable and understandable.

Give us a cuddle before you go, MTPW. You're being really unfair, leaving like that .

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 20:40

Twopence ... you were impeccable, as always

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:40

my arse, your face, des. but how would we tell the difference?

(i'm not sure that reflects well on either of us, tbh )

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 20:40

That woman's a tease, I tell you.

MyTwopenceworth · 08/08/2007 20:41

[[[[[hugs]]]]]

psssst, I'm not really buggering off, I'm going to stand on the other side of the wall, with a glass, and eavedrop......

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 20:41

Well, I look pretty agreeable any side up, Aitch

... for an old fuckwit.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 20:42

Aitch, I haven't taken against anyone. I merely defended myself when every single point I made, that were NOT unreasonable were being practically ignored and swept under the carpet as if they don't matter.
And as I keep saying, there are only a few of you disagreeing with the OP, the same few that were arguing with laura on the other post, in fact, the same few that have argued with most posts I've seen. This is what I meant by people being worried about their 'place' and by 'old' I was referring to the years comment as for hag, well, it goes well together.
What is the point of allowing 'newbies' to enter if we aren't allowed an opinion?
I think if you had actually read my posts on other threads you would notice that I am a reasonable, and on most of them, nice, person.
I think it ruins things to come onto a forum and the first thing I see is someone being vindicated for their spelling.
It bothered me, so I made a thread about it.

... or even eavesdrop!

Get it right, woman!

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 20:44

Vindicated is the wrong word.

HectorsHouse · 08/08/2007 20:44

anyone else loving the spelling of 'Lorayn'?

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:44

er, we were all newbies once, lorayn. i've only been here a year.

expatinscotland · 08/08/2007 20:44

Wait a sec, Des! You're the fuckwit, I'm the hag, Aitch is . . .

JeremyVile · 08/08/2007 20:44

Personally, i have no objection to new posters being rude or picking holes in certain aspects of MN or even individual posters.

That is to say, i dont object any more than if its an established poster.

They are either out of order or they are not. I dont think 'length of service' should count for much.

Considering that we all (mostly)love the non-fluffy aspect of MN, i dont get the disdain for new posters who air their views as freely as everyone else.

Tis pedantics gawn mad!

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:45

hector...

okay, it has somewhat been the elephant in the room.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/08/2007 20:46

victimised?

MyTwopenceworth · 08/08/2007 20:48

Oh, yeah, eavesdrop.

Whoops.

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:49

JV, read the postal strike thread. as i've said about fifteen thousand times, it wasn't the spelling, it wasn't the newbieness, it was the moronic defiance in the face of incontravertible evidence.

and i do think that i'm more interested in the opinion of someone who i've seen about here before if they're talking about MN specifically. if it's a new name i just think 'meh, what do you know? you've barely posted.'

stick around, lorayn, you might like it, you might not. but i don't fancy your chances at changing it. there's 10,000 posts a day, that's a lot of love to spread around...

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:49

s it incontrovertible? hhmmm.

Aitch · 08/08/2007 20:49

it is.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 20:50

I'm not trying to change it Aitch, just make a point.

I want to be vindicated for my spelling. Where should I go?

gess · 08/08/2007 20:52

mumsnet is also known as pedantsnet everyone knows that. I went to primary school in the 70's so was taught to express myself and throw paint creatively but not actually spell (ITA anyone?) or construct a sentence. Mumsnet has been a whole second education. It's great. If dh (and his classical education) are out I can ask on here.

JeremyVile · 08/08/2007 20:54

Aitch - tralalalalalala tralaleeleeleelee.....

I cant, CANT go on that thread!

I caught a glimpse of some of the more 'disgusted of Dagenham' posters, who seemed to be limering up for a good old game of 'stone the postie'.

No, i wont look

I take your word for it that you weren't attacking someone based on them being a newbie, i just commented as the subject came up - not as a riposte to anyone.

Lorayn · 08/08/2007 20:56

Jeremy, for what I saw, that thread didn't say anything about anyone being a 'newbie' I was referring to myself being a newbie on this thread.
Which was a feeling made pretty clear by some from the start.
