DD aged 18 said this to me. I said it was offensive and asked her not to say it. She said she and DS aged 15 say it all the time (to each other and to their friends) and it doesn’t mean anything. She says it’s a generation thing. I said that my gran used to use n*gger but it doesn’t mean it’s ok.

AIBU to find it offensive? Do your teenagers say it?

I've not heard that expression and like the op I wouldn't like it (I probably would have thought it referred to breastfeeding), but what I did hear which seemed to start circa thirty years ago was , "Your mum's dead", which kids casually said to eachother, abbreviated to, "Yer mum!". That wasn't exactly nice Hmm but I got used to it.

DH reminds me that the comment was made not TO me but in my hearing. DD was recounting a conversation she had with someone else and SYM was her comment on the conversation. I got so disgusted I went straight in to telling her off

Well that's a drip feed. So now she didn't say it to you but in your hearing. Hmm

Did this even happen, OP?

I witnessed a young, possibly european woman (20 something with a slight accent) say this to a middle aged black woman on a bus last year. Her exact words to the older lady were: "Hurry up and move blud..." followed by "Ahh suck ya mum!" whilst barging past when the lady dared to say "Just a sec..."...WELL! The black lady gave her an almighty smack right across her jaw. Hand print could be seen from Mars. I felt a lesson was learnt that day.

@EmmiJay

Serves her bloody right! Lol.

She chose to say it to someone that is fully aware of its meaning and how much of an insult it was and if she didn’t know, she sure as hell does now. If she said it to me, she’d be the one sucking all right...out of a straw after I’ve knocked her teeth out!

Its basically go fuck yourself in Jamaican patois

THEBROKENCONDOM · 20/03/2021 15:25

Its more like a way to tell people to go fuck themselves

ElizaLaLa · 20/03/2021 15:27

This was said when I was at secondary school in the 90's.

Not nice but not the worst 🤷‍♀️

user127819 · 20/03/2021 15:34

Insults against mothers are pretty typical worldwide I think, and usually supposed to be worse than an insult against the person themselves.

She does need to be careful but if she says it to the wrong person she'll regret it. Someone at my old school was attacked for saying it to a boy whose mum was dead. It's not a meaningless phrase.

cliftonbear · 20/03/2021 15:36

gosh that takes me back to year 7! just come up with something worse to respond with lol
