To want to cancel my holiday

Fattytumtum · 08/08/2019 17:48

We go on holiday in 2 weeks and I should be really excited but I just want to cancel the holiday and stay at home.

It sounds so stupid but I haven’t lost that weight I’m always hoping to lose and no amount of reading positive mumsnet threads or articles will make my misery about it stop. I keep looking at celebrity weights and just wishing I was better- less lazy, more toned, had a nice tummy, was seen as having a good figure.

I know it isn’t all about weight at all but out of curiosity (and to see if it is my body dysmorphia playing up)- what weight (I’m 5ft 5) do you think I’d have to be to look slim on the beach?

Thanks for listening to my silly rant 💛

Here's how to get a beach body:
Take your body to the beach!

Enjoy yourself and don't worry about it

TheQueef · 08/08/2019 17:51

When you go to the beach, honestly, do you look at other womens figures?
Neither does anyone else Smile

KindergartenKop · 08/08/2019 17:51

It really doesn't matter. Just have a nice time!

dementedpixie · 08/08/2019 17:52

Dont know but I wore a bikini on holiday this year and am nearly 16 stone. I'm 5' 6" ish

KindergartenKop · 08/08/2019 17:52

Also, when I go to the beach I always think more of the non perfect ladies in bikinis!

Sonders · 08/08/2019 17:54

Nobody gets to 90 and thinks "I wish I spent less time enjoying myself on holiday", but pretty much every woman I know wishes they'd spent more time on the beach, having a blast and not giving a fuck about how they looked in a swimsuit.

Do it. You'll hate it. But you'll regret not doing it more.

I am sure you'll learn to have a healthy relationship with your weight in time, but that's a job for after your lovely holiday :)

catgirl1976 · 08/08/2019 17:55

I am currently on holiday and the heaviest I have ever been at 14 stone (5ft 6)

I am wearing a bikini and as of yet no angry mobs have chased me from the pool. There are thin people, fat people, tall people, short people and pregnant people and no one is judging anyone else just having a nice holiday.

Relax and enjoy yourself x

Cloudyyy · 08/08/2019 17:56

There isn’t any specific weight that’s fat or thin. Two people could be the exact same height and weight and look entirely different because of their body composition. Muscle mass, bone density etc all play their part. Ling term, focus on the size you would be happiest at and try to make positive and sustainable healthy changes to aim for that. In the short term, pick some nice floaty flattering beach dresses and enjoy you hols!! I’d have a little detox for the next couple of weeks to make sure you’re not bloated at least! Just kick the rubbish for a couple of weeks starting now. Plenty of fresh fruit and veg, lots of water and peppermint tea!! You’ll feel on top of the world by the holiday!!

DocusDiplo · 08/08/2019 17:56

Sorry you feel like this, it's not nice to feel uncomfortable. Why don't you go swimwear shopping and try on something that makes you feel more comfortable. I personally wear swimming costume type thing rather than bikini.

Aside from that you can wear a sarong and whip it off when you get more confident - or hide in the sea where noone can see!

Aside from that, try to focus on your family and looking at their smiling faces. Then there will be less pressure on you, perhaps. Go to the holiday as a test for The Family and then who knows.. maybe you might just get into it. I always find I walk and paddle alot on holiday so lose a few kilos as I am less hungry in the heat too.

Have fun OP and report back!

Alwaysgrey · 08/08/2019 17:57

I’m very overweight so I get what you mean but who cares? You’ll never see these people again. Go and have a fab holiday. If you’re unhappy with your body make some healthy changes when you get back.

Butterymuffin · 08/08/2019 17:58

Don't know where you're going, but wherever I go on holiday, there are always women (including mep) with far from perfect figures, carrying too much weight, wearing bikinis or swimsuits and not giving a shit. Join us!

BookwormMe2 · 08/08/2019 17:58

I've just got back from holiday where I wore a bikini for the first time in 20 years despite being at my heaviest (size 16+). Like you, I was worried before about how I'd look but, seriously, people don't take a blind bit of notice once they're by the pool/on the beach, they're too busy relaxing, and there were many women far bigger than me in far smaller bikinis! It was the best holiday I've ever had for body confidence. So go, enjoy, and don't worry about it!

NoBaggyPants · 08/08/2019 18:01

If I recall correctly the OP isn't overweight at all, but keeps posting these threads for some sort of validation.

Is that correct @Fattytumtum?

Fattytumtum · 08/08/2019 18:02

You are also so inspiring 💛. I wish I had your confidence!

It sounds silly but it’s not even other people looking at me that worries me- it’s just that I look down, see the cellulite and then I can’t get it out of my head. Which is so sad when I should be loving the holiday and engaging with my poor family!

Shittiestdayinalongtime · 08/08/2019 18:02

I'm 5 foot 4, and currently weigh 12 stone. I'm going on holiday next week and I will be wearing a bikini! I'm overweight but I have managed to lose 1 and a half stone since last summer, so I do feel better about myself (however today I just feel fat and bloated). Althoigh when I was a teenager and I weighed 8 and a half stone I felt too fat and big to wear a bikini. Seriously, no one cares. Wear what makes you feel comfortable.

DillyDilly · 08/08/2019 18:02

It’s irrelevant whether others think you have a ‘good figure’ or not. Don’t critique other women’s bodies.
Learn to love the body you have. Put together a small selection of clothes that you feel comfortable in, wear a bikini, embrace your body rather than cover up. Wear a fab sun-hat along with lovely flat sandals and sunglasses. If you can, visit the hairdressers before you go, get a manicure and pedicure.

And if you put your mind to it, with healthy eating and a little exercise you could be 5lbs or 6lbs lighter in two weeks.

Fattytumtum · 08/08/2019 18:03

@NoBaggyPants it’s not validation- I just feel like I can’t cope with everything going on inside my head. Some days I’m convinced I look so awful I can’t leave the house.

Hoppinggreen · 08/08/2019 18:03

I’m a size 16 and old. I am much more confident in a bikini that size 6 totally gorgeous 15 year old DD - it really is mostly down to attitude ( and the fact that nobody looks at me with her around)

justgotbanned · 08/08/2019 18:04

Hi OP, I too will be one of those people on holiday who didn't lose the weight I wanted to. I was going to have one final push, but circumstances have meant I'm now going away much earlier than planned so there's no time. I wouldn't cancel though. I won't be looking at other people's cellulite, and I won't be hiding mine. There are people of all shapes and sizes on holiday who you will probably never see again. Just go an have a fab time.

DillyDilly · 08/08/2019 18:04

When you become fixated with your body, remind yourself that you’re here, you’re alive and have your family around. Enjoy it.

Sparadrap · 08/08/2019 18:06

I’m feeling really out of shape and am going on holiday in 10 days time. I’ve bought a tankini with matching swim shorts plus a beach tunic thing (from Boden if you are interested - there is a 20% off code if you google it). I feel far happier knowing I’ve got something lovely to wear that hides my belly.

I hope you have a lovely time x

Croquembou · 08/08/2019 18:08

I've been on holiday with visible abs and still not been happy with my body. There is no weight where it's all just magically fine and you feel amazing, actually the body you think you need to be perfect just changes with your weight.

I can promise you, celebrity bodies are not worth it. It's fucking miserable. You can't eat, you can't drink, you can just exercise and eat chicken breast and brown rice. You'll be miserable, anyone who spends time with you will be miserable and you'll miss gin.

This year, I decided to get on top of my body image issues, part of which meant not doing anything differently just because I was going on holiday. I find wearing a bikini upsets me, so I bought swimsuits instead (there's so many cool ones this year) and a couple of dresses that I felt pretty in. I had the best holiday, I never wished I'd lost weight before it.

Spaceprincess · 08/08/2019 18:08

5'5, 11 stone 4, I look ace in my bikini, I'm all the lady curves and dgaf if I look slim or not.

NoBaggyPants · 08/08/2019 18:08

What size/ measurements are you?

speakout · 08/08/2019 18:11

You have had some good advice OP.

I feel like this before a holiday every time, but the fist morning by the pool my fears instantly evaporate.
There are lots of people bigger or in worse shape, or elderly not giving a toss.
They won't care about your body either.
