Leather shoes-smart
Adidas casual trainers
3 pairs of good quality socks
2 pairs of cheap socks
2 pairs of smart work trousers
2 smart work tops
pair of levi jeans
3 high quality plain cotton tops
cheap bathing outfit
cheap skirt

These were bought from Hobbs/Reiss for the smart/good quality stuff
Zara for the cheaper stuff

I wouldnt pay £350 for that but depends on your budget etc I would say.
Why?

Greeborising · 04/08/2019 10:31

Not at all expensive!
I could spend the whole amount on the shoes alone😂
I love coming out of Zara with a huge bag of stuff for under £100!

HollyGoLoudly1 · 04/08/2019 10:32

To me that would be expensive. But then I consider Zara on the more expensive side and Reiss would be out of my price range.

It's all relative. To some people, £350 for a single pair of shoes would be reasonable; to others £350 would be their clothes budget for the year.

MrsKittyFane1 · 04/08/2019 10:35

If you have spare money just waiting to be spent on whatever you like for then no, £350 is not a lot.

If the £350 spent s on credit or needed for other things then YAU to spend money you do not have of stuff like that.

samians · 04/08/2019 10:35

Bought everything in the sals. Just totted it up and it would be £780 full price . ShockHmm

sales

OP posts:
Fuma · 04/08/2019 10:36

I definitely wouldn't be buying that for that price. I don't buy second hand shoes anyway though. Why do you want to know?

adaline · 04/08/2019 10:38

That's a huge amount to me but it's all relative, isn't it?

If you can afford it, why not?

Fuma · 04/08/2019 10:38

Oh it's not second hand. In that case it's fine.

MrsKittyFane1 · 04/08/2019 10:42

That's not the point! Can you afford £350? Have you stuck it on a credit card or is it your money?

Topseyt · 04/08/2019 10:44

I wouldn't buy that lot all at once because it is far too much money and I can't afford it. I would buy two or three things a month, or if needing something expensive like shoes then would just buy those.

If you have that kind of money just lying around though then spend it if you want to. Plenty of us would have to think twice before doing it though.

Weirdly reminiscent of this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3649131-Is-230-expensive-for-these-items

samians · 04/08/2019 10:46

Jane, that post inspired me!

OP posts:
shinynewapple · 04/08/2019 10:49

For what you bought, bearing in mind the quality and brand names that's a good price.

Obviously you could get cheaper but then you would be looking at Asda / Primark not Levi or Adidas

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 04/08/2019 10:53

Looks good value to me! More than I would spend in one go but reasonable for the number of items you got.

Idontwanttotalk · 04/08/2019 10:54

£350 sounded okay, if a little on the low side for all of that but when I saw your
update I thought it a very good price. I consider Hobbs to be very expensive and more than I pay but it is great quality.

ThePants999 · 04/08/2019 10:54

My clothing budget is about £150/yr 😁

NotSorry · 04/08/2019 10:55

sounds about right - what is your AIBU? or is someone in your life complaining?

frenchknitting · 04/08/2019 10:57

I added up what I would have spent on each of those items and came to about £280, so it doesn't seem cheap, but not wildly expensive, to me.

lljkk · 04/08/2019 10:58

I only buy stuff in charity shops, tbh. And I don't know those brands. So even new, This is what I think they should cost

Leather shoes-smart (£20-£80)
Adidas casual trainers (£20-£40)
3 pairs of good quality socks (£5)
2 pairs of cheap socks £1
2 pairs of smart work trousers £10-£200
2 smart work tops £5-£50
pair of levi jeans £20 (max!, nothing special about Levis)
3 high quality plain cotton tops (t-shirts?? £15+)
cheap bathing outfit (£12)
cheap skirt (£3)

At my upper estimates, could just about reach £350, but never the £780 OP thinks she would have otherwise paid.

Smokesandeats · 04/08/2019 10:59

Can you tell us the individual prices of everything and whether you could easily afford it? For someone on minimum wage £350 is a huge amount but if you earn £100k a year it isn’t.

Benjispruce · 04/08/2019 11:00

Not cheap , not hugely expensive. It's just when you spend it all in one go. I never go out and buy in a big haul like that partly because cab and partly because I can never find everything I want in one shop.

JudgeRindersMinder · 04/08/2019 11:00

Looks ok to me, especially if it’s decent quality.
Of course you could get the same number of items from Primark etc for 50p, but it’ll be shit quality and pretty much unwearable in a very short time, whereas what you’ve bought will hopefully last a long time.

gingersausage · 04/08/2019 11:03

Why does it matter. Is someone asking you to justify your spending?

citrusbleach · 04/08/2019 11:03

Leather shoes-smart (£145
Adidas casual trainers (£75)
3 pairs of good quality socks (£42)
2 pairs of cheap socks £7
2 pairs of smart work trousers £210
2 smart work tops £185
pair of levi jeans £85 max!, nothing special about Levis)
3 high quality plain cotton tops (£75)
cheap bathing outfit £21
cheap skirt £20

Ok so in first tott up I was slightly beneath, but some things like the socks I’d never ever even believe they could be worth that much
