Leather shoes-smart
Adidas casual trainers
3 pairs of good quality socks
2 pairs of cheap socks
2 pairs of smart work trousers
2 smart work tops
pair of levi jeans
3 high quality plain cotton tops
cheap bathing outfit
cheap skirt

These were bought from Hobbs/Reiss for the smart/good quality stuff
Zara for the cheaper stuff

Also, I’m guessing this is just a bragging post. If so, why not just post in Style & beauty?

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/08/2019 12:19

It all depends on if it's your own money or someone else's. And whether there was a cheaper option than Levis jeans as they're expensive but new ones are not great quality.

stucknoue · 04/08/2019 12:30

More than I would pay but I don't buy brands and Zara isn't cheap!

growlingbear · 04/08/2019 12:45

It's not expensive. Good quality shoes, jeans and work trousers are worth the money. So's a good bathing suit.

Motherofacat · 04/08/2019 13:01

I think you done well as items for work are expensive especially if you are in a professional role. It sounds as though you have bought a few good outfits and saved a lot of cash in sales. I do agree with the PP that if you've put it on a credit card then perhaps it is a bit much but if it's out your wage that's fine.

KurriKurri · 04/08/2019 13:13

It's an unanswerable question really - it depends what you can afford. For me I would consider it very expensive because I can't afford to spend that much on clothes - so I have to buy from cheaper shops/ebay/charity shops etc. Whih I am quite happy to do.

If you can afford to spend £350 and you got expensive clothes in the sales for half price, good luck to you, no problem at all - you snaffled some bargains and that's always a good feeling Smile. Your money, you do whatever you want with it and it's no one else's business.

TatianaLarina · 04/08/2019 13:15

I think you’ve done very well.

Comefromaway · 04/08/2019 13:19

I think that sounds quite good for what youve got.

I tend to buy in supermarkets a lot but for a pair of decent quality work trousers to be worn week in week out I’d be looking at 30-35 a pair.

Shoes I tend to go for leather, not designer around £30-50 per pair.

I tend to buy clothes in a huge splurge maybe once every 3 years or so then just top up if I need an outfit for a special occasion or something wears out.

puppy23 · 04/08/2019 13:24

I wouldn't count Zara as a cheap place to buy clothes at all, but considering the brands you've got there I'd say its not bad but could probably have been done cheaper. If you're happy with the prices paid thats the main thing though.

Nanamilly · 04/08/2019 13:26

I’m not of the opinion that it depends on your budget and yes, you got a good amount for your money.

OtraCosaMariposa · 04/08/2019 13:26

I only buy things when I need them. It's inconceivable that I'd need all that stuff at the same time.

And I don't buy stuff just because it's cheap or a bargain. Fast fashion and having wardrobes full to bursting is not a good thing.

lorettalemon · 04/08/2019 13:27

I think it depends a bit on what you define as good quality, because you can pay an awful lot for good quality things. Trousers which look and feel nice and really last could cost £50-£100, Levi jeans aren't cheap either. It sounds like you got a lot for the money if they were very good items. I'm not sure if I agree with posters saying a cheap skirt costs £1, it might in some charity shops, but today I'm wearing a Tesco skirt which cost £12 and I thought that was a fair price for a skirt.

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2019 13:27

If can afford £350 YANBU.
But if you are using money you don’t have/can’t spare then YABU.

Oysterbabe · 04/08/2019 13:27

I think a lot of the time buying cheap clothes just isn't worthwhile. And by that I mean Primark rather than good quality secondhand. I've recently lost 3st and I bought some cheap clothes from Primark to see me through while between sizes. It's fit for the bin after a few months of wear, faded, misshapen and bobbly even though I wash at 30. Now I'm at my goal weight I'm gradually building up a wardrobe of good quality clothes and the difference is stark.

Comefromaway · 04/08/2019 13:28

Someone starting a new job who is also due to go on holiday for the first time in a while might need to buy it all at the same time.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 04/08/2019 13:46

I love some of the people on here saying things like Levis for £1. Even postage on eBay would put you more than that, and they'd be at least £15 even in charity shops around here, in decent shape.

I think it's good value for clothes that will last, you could probably do better if you had the time to scour charity shop rails, but for many of us that's simply not possible, with work and young kids, it takes a lot of time.

So yabu.

GrouchoMrx · 04/08/2019 13:47

£350 is fine is you can afford it. It is a ridiculous amount to spend if you cannot afford it.

Most people can't afford to spend that much in one go. I don't know why you are looking for validation.

Nautiloid · 04/08/2019 13:48

It would be extremely expensive for me. But it's all relative. If you have the money spare, no problem. If you don't but were seduced by the reductions, that's a problem.

IncrediblySadToo · 04/08/2019 13:53

It seems like a good price to have paid for that much stuff.

Why are you asking though? Who has said it isn’t?

TinyMystery · 04/08/2019 13:53

So I just went through and made estimations:

Leather shoes-smart - £60
Adidas casual trainers - £50 (would spend more on proper running trainers but I would be more frugal with ‘casual’ trainers)
3 pairs of good quality socks - £15
2 pairs of cheap socks - £5
2 pairs of smart work trousers - £60
2 smart work tops - £50
pair of levi jeans - £70
3 high quality plain cotton tops - £20
cheap bathing outfit - £15
cheap skirt - £15

Comes to £370 so I’d probably be outraged if I had to spend more than £400 on that lot but my estimates are based on my budget really. You know your budget. I couldn’t really afford to shop at Reiss and full price Zara is my ‘fancy’. Zara sale and H&M are more my usual price range.

Rachelover40 · 04/08/2019 13:56

You've done quite well there.

CharlesLeeRay · 04/08/2019 13:56

Zara is not what I'd consider 'cheap'

RoseMartha · 04/08/2019 14:00

Sounds a lot to me. However the only time I spent more than £70 in a day on clothes or footwear was when I bought my wedding dress which even then was in the sale and less than £350.

ConcreteUnderpants · 04/08/2019 14:04

Sounds a lot to me, but then I consider Zara as expensive!

Struggling to see the point of your thread though? A boast?
