Sir James Talbot tackles Mrs. Jack Maynard's Displaced Organ

QuaterMiss · 02/08/2019 18:17

Would I be unreasonable to initiate legal proceedings against this man?

Previous thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3624032-Not-to-have-realised-until-now-that-Joey-Maynard-s-displaced-organ-was-a-prolapse?

With thanks to Jemima232 for rifling through Sir James’ archives to supply the title of this one.

Well this is modern! A ‘coloured’ porter in the train and Joey’s astonishing rant against ‘beatniks’. Who apparently need a nanny, a good tubbing and some self-respect. Hmm

I’m moved to wonder how you agree to being guardian for a complete stranger without at least asking first what financial arrangements have been made to enable this.

QuaterMiss · 16/08/2019 16:44

Crossed you Jemima!

I tap keys too slowly ...

Jemima232 · 16/08/2019 16:49

And I am moved to wonder why Madge et al decided to move the whole school from Guernsey to Plas Howell without even looking at the house.

QuaterMiss · 16/08/2019 17:59

There had been a good deal of red tape attached to even a temporary [spoiler] but Jack Maynard was accustomed to getting his own way ...

I’ll bet.

This is how they won an empire.

Not that impressed with Ruey so far.
A long and deadly boring chapter about how to make apple strudel and lengthy explanations on how to play lacrosse and the various rules. Both of which seem to be just padding.

TinselAngel · 16/08/2019 19:07

Ruey is better if read after the one before it where the families meet (Joey and Co. in Tirol?), although not the lacrosse stuff, that's just dull.

Papergirl1968 · 16/08/2019 19:44

It is Joey and Co in Tyrol. I read it a few months ago.
Hoping Ruey improves.
I did enjoy the descriptions of the new uniform though! Although frankly most of them sounded hideous, it was interesting that gymslips are considered to be out of fashion and that once they turn 15, skirts are worn instead.

Squirrel26 · 16/08/2019 21:40

D’you think Jack speaks French or German, or does he just speak VERY LOUDLY AND SLOWLY IN (RP accented) English?

NewSchoolNewName · 16/08/2019 23:12

TBF, the Nazis were about to invade the Channel Islands.

Under the circumstances, rushing the school move, and not checking out new school sites properly, is somewhat understandable.

CarrotVan · 17/08/2019 08:47

I had forgotten how terribly irritating Rivals is. And how annoying I find Joey and Simone.

Also Joey has gone from having no musical ability in Book 1 to the voice of a boy chorister in Book 3 and a delightful contralto in Rivals. Isn’t puberty amazing?

cerys · 17/08/2019 12:19

@CarrotVan

Or yet another benefit of champagne-like mountain air and unlimited creamy milk? Grin

QuaterMiss · 17/08/2019 12:27

It’s all very well but I just don’t see how they sustained such active, outdoor lifestyles on a diet that was 97% pastry and cream. Veal is mentioned for special meals. Extra thinly sliced ham occasionally. No fish. No cheese. Scrambled eggs for invalid suppers. Really, aside from sedatives, what exactly was in that milk?

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 17/08/2019 12:40

What exactly was in the milk?

TB?

cerys · 17/08/2019 12:54

If I had been a pupil and had been given hot milk, I would have been sick all over my dainty cretonne curtains and plumeau.

Am reading Theodora and I am stunned at Joey railroading a child she has never met into being known as Ted (yet another boys name).

cerys · 17/08/2019 12:54

@Squirrel26

Grin at TB

Morning fellow Middles!

Am I the only person who is having issues reading the Kindle format books on Dropbox? It keeps telling me to remove the DRM on it...!

QuaterMiss · 17/08/2019 13:56

When you say reading the Kindle format books on Dropbox what do you mean exactly, Margia? Are you trying to read them in Dropbox? Probably not, I guess.

I can tell you what I’m doing on my phone - though it’ll be no help if you have a different set up.

From the Kindle format file I open a book and tap the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen. This brings up a menu. Scroll down to Export. Tap that - and from the choices available select Copy to Kindle. Then it’s exported to the Kindle app on my phone. It works beautifully.

(Before we had the Kindle ready ebooks only a few would export to my Kindle app. Most of the rest I could export to iBooks. A few had to be read directly from Dropbox.)

Hope someone else can help if my method is useless to you.

Jemima232 · 17/08/2019 14:13

@MargiaStevens

I didn't think much of the concert you gave last week in Glasgow.

The Liszt Etudes Trancendentales were shocking, esp. Chasse Neige.

It's not to be wondered at if you're reading the CS books 24/7 instead of practising the piano.

Jemima232 · 17/08/2019 14:16

Under the circumstances, rushing the school move, and not checking out new school sites properly, is somewhat understandable

But supposing the cretonnes were not up to scratch when they arrived?

It doesn't bear thinking about.

TinselAngel · 17/08/2019 14:20

Shock Literal violence right here.

NormalMacRage · 17/08/2019 14:34

@Parker231 sorry to be a pain and delurk just to beg you for the dropbox link? Thank you so much for taking time to do this for so many people!

Jemima232 · 17/08/2019 14:36

I had forgotten how terribly irritating Rivals is

Oh I dunno.

I rather enjoyed it.

And I like Mary-Lou.

Jemima232 · 17/08/2019 14:38

Is it me?

I am becoming more and more outraged by the numbers of girls who are called by boys' names.

I cannot cope with Jack Lambert or Tom Gay.

Why did EBD do that?

FiveLittlePigs · 17/08/2019 14:54

Just finished chalet girls in camp with the homily by Miss Wilson about how Domestic Economics is the way forward for all girls who should know how to patch a shirt etc. I think my eyes rolled so much they fell out. Grin

It's only a book, I keep telling myself, which was written some 85 years ago. Times was different then. Grin

NewSchoolNewName · 17/08/2019 14:54

But supposing the cretonnes were not up to scratch when they arrived?

There’s a war. You’ve got to be prepared for minor hardships like cretonnes not being up to scratch.

(What even is a cretonne? Is it some sort of luxury item that would be rationed?)
