I am very angry so sorry if this comes out aggressive.

I'm a dog owner, a sweet little dog that we rescued. I also volunteer for a dog charity on a weekly basis. I love dogs.

My dog kept us up all night from 1am with the runs and vomitting. We think this is from her little chew on a piece of furniture. She is fine in herself but needs to let it pass.

My dog is going out for a walk more frequently because of said sickness. On our normal walk my dog goes to poo but absolutely nothing comes out, this keeps happening - she's sick. So we carry on walking and from across the road the woman on her front drive goes 'are you not going to pick up your dog's poo?'

Now I know that some owners don't and it's disgusting. But don't tar us all with the same brush. Don't assume and don't accost me from across the road. I have had to work from home to look after my dog so am in my very casual clothes and I do look about 16 when i'm like this but I just can't imagine the woman saying it to anyone that may look even slightly more intimidating or older. I also think it's entirely none of her business.

I then had to shout across the road to say 'No she's sick and constipated. I always pick up her poo' which I do, religiously. I live on the same road so why wouldn't I?

Massive overreaction on your part. She saw your dog crouch to shit and then you walking on. Common sense will tell you that she couldn’t see that your dog didn’t actually leave anything, or else she wouldn’t have asked the question, would she? You need to calm down and take your dog to the vet.

If you live somewhere where people leave the poo all the time, you get sick of it and lose patience. She wasn’t to know your dog hadn’t actually been but it actually sounds like she held her tongue and asked you nicely. It is illegal to dog foul and it’s absolutely horrible for everyone else. You’re angry because your dog is poorly but from what you’ve written the woman did nothing wrong. Hope your dog feels better soon.

Why would you be angry? I see a LOT of evidence around here that a LOT of dog owners don't pick up their dog poo. Usually, if a dog goes to do a poo, they do a poo. It's very unusual for your situation to happen. She asked, you explained. Let that be the end of the matter.

Nah I’d have said the same to you. Sick of dogs being allowed to do the toilet and irresponsible owners not cleaning up after. It’s disgusting where I stay, council does bugger all about it. All you had to do is say your dog didn’t do the toilet and move on.

It’s anyone’s business if they genuinely think you didn’t pick up after your dog. Not enough people call dog owners out when they see them not pick up. I have two myself and can’t stand when people don’t do it. She didn’t have to shout but obviously saw your dog squat and made a natural assumption.

Just let it go. To be honest I admire her for having the guts to stand up to dog owners who don't pick up their dog's mess- it's disgusting. How was she to know your dog was constipated?

I have also been accused of not picking up a (obviously very old) poo when we asked past it. I very calmly explained that I always pick up dog poo and my dog hadn’t done that particular pile. The man in question suggested I pick it up anyway since I had a dog, I offered to lend him a bag so he could .

Would you be polite if someone ACTUALLY was walking away from their dog's poo? She made an assumption because your dog literally squatted and you walked away. She's not psychic to know your dog is constipated, and the whole back story is unnecessary.

It's not nice that you were accused of something you didn't do, but I get where the woman is coming from. I'm positive that if she's come across 10 people doing the same, 9 actually we're leaving poo. Take a breath and don't let it ruffle your feathers.

I think you're tired and overthinking. We used to live where lots of people left dog poo, each of them deserves to fall face first in it. It's awful to live near.

I think if you see a dog crouching in the poo position it is actually a fair assumption that it is having a poo. And if more people called people out then perhaps there would be less dog poo all over the pavements for kids to tread in. You could have just called back it's Ok she's sick nothing is coming out, I do clear up if she does something'
I also have a dear little dog, I've trained him to poo inthe garden so the only person who hs to deal with it is me. He never goes when we are out - but I always take bags just in case he was taken short for some reason.

I live on a residential street that is frequently covered in dog shit - if you are coming home from something in the dark it is almost impossible not to tread in it - I have to walk home with my torch pointing to the pavement looking down and walking slowly. Some people are disgusting - and I am a dog lover.

Maybe the woman had had enough of people allowing thier dogs ot poo on the pavement - her assumption was certainly reasonable as was her remark to you. Instead of getting yourself in a froth you could easily have reassured her.

And it is nothing to do with how old you look - it is to do with your dog looking as if she was shitting.

I would have shouted at you as well. When my dog was constipated, I used to pretend to pick up her shit just to make sure people did not think I was leaving it (even though there was nothing there).

I have woken up to dog shit on my drive this morning - maybe she is a little more sensitive to the issue just now like me.

The woman thought your dog had shit and you hadn’t picked it up, she couldn’t see far enough to realise your dog didn’t poo. She was right to ask, dog owners who don’t pick poo up are the pits.
