to think she's a rude idiot?

I am very angry so sorry if this comes out aggressive.

I'm a dog owner, a sweet little dog that we rescued. I also volunteer for a dog charity on a weekly basis. I love dogs.

My dog kept us up all night from 1am with the runs and vomitting. We think this is from her little chew on a piece of furniture. She is fine in herself but needs to let it pass.

My dog is going out for a walk more frequently because of said sickness. On our normal walk my dog goes to poo but absolutely nothing comes out, this keeps happening - she's sick. So we carry on walking and from across the road the woman on her front drive goes 'are you not going to pick up your dog's poo?'

Now I know that some owners don't and it's disgusting. But don't tar us all with the same brush. Don't assume and don't accost me from across the road. I have had to work from home to look after my dog so am in my very casual clothes and I do look about 16 when i'm like this but I just can't imagine the woman saying it to anyone that may look even slightly more intimidating or older. I also think it's entirely none of her business.

I then had to shout across the road to say 'No she's sick and constipated. I always pick up her poo' which I do, religiously. I live on the same road so why wouldn't I?

Sorry I am so ANGRY.

yes YABU. Why should she have to ask politely if somebody hadn't picked the poo up..?

DarlingNikita · 23/07/2019 12:03

Shouting at someone from across the road with anger and rudeness is NEVER ok.

This. The principle is fine but it's the way she said it.

RB68 · 23/07/2019 12:06

Do you not all think that the shouty woman should have sorted out whether there was any poo to collect!!! I think OP would be perfectly within reason to be pissed off with her and shouted back asking for a magnifying glass as she couldn;t see any and she was welcome to go and check

Derbee · 23/07/2019 12:06

YABU. I wouldn’t ask someone politely to pick up their dog poo! If i saw a dog stop and look like it was pooing, and then the owner walking I’d shout across the road too.

You’re taking it too personally

15YemenRoad · 23/07/2019 12:07

Wow, do you usually get so worked up over such trivial things? Your reaction is OTT.

Her shouting was not okay but let it go. She did not confront you just made a comment and assumed wrongly. Stupid on her part but nothing to get this worked up over.

Derbee · 23/07/2019 12:08

“Are you not going to pick up your dogs poo?” isn’t rude

“Pick up your fucking dog shit” is rude

missbattenburg · 23/07/2019 12:10

I'd rather she shouted at me and got it wrong than ignored when someone else DID leave a shit behind.

Dog poo left behind is going to be the reason dogs are banned from more and more places and the responsible owners will probably suffer more than the irresponsible ones. I'd prefer everyone to pick it up to avoid such an ending. If it were feasible, I'd support DNA testing of abandoned shits to track down the dog and owner. Sadly, I'm not sure it is.

DarlingNikita · 23/07/2019 12:11

YABU. I wouldn’t ask someone politely to pick up their dog poo!

Then you'd deserve a shouty/sarcastic response. It really takes nothing to say it politely.

Derbee, it's the shouting it that pissed off the OP. Rightly.

Cwtches123 · 23/07/2019 12:13

You are overreacting!!!

overnightangel · 23/07/2019 12:13

OP, you’re the only one being aggressive

Holenewme · 23/07/2019 12:17

Unless she was naked and wielding a club or similar at the time then asking someone to pick up their dogs poo is neither rude or aggressive.

81Byerley · 23/07/2019 12:18

You need to take your dog to the vet, and stop worrying about the way the woman spoke to you. Your dog sounds as if she's in real trouble, and it could be dangerous.

LimitIsUp · 23/07/2019 12:24

Well I guess we were weren't there and it all depends upon the tone of voice that she used. If she just raised her voice so that it carried over to you and asked if you were going to pick up the poo then she was perfectly within her rights. However, if she was aggressive and abrupt then granted that isn't very pleasant - nevertheless, you can see how she made a reasonable mistake in presuming that your dog had pooed and you hadn't picked it up

Even if she was a bit curt - you are being a tad oversensitive, but as Pinktinker suggests you are probably a bit overtired and out of sorts. In your situation, if she had been aggressive I would have enjoyed shouting back something sarcastic like "She didn't go, what do you want me to pick up, thin air?" - but then I can be a bit combative sometimes when really I should let things go

SagAloojah · 23/07/2019 12:25

'No she's sick and constipated. I always pick up her poo'

This wasn’t a clear response. You should have just said ‘she hasn’t done a poo’.

It’s hard not to tar all dog owners when you’re side stepping shit on the pavement everyday.

LimitIsUp · 23/07/2019 12:26

And yes - dog needs a trip to the vet

KarmaStar · 23/07/2019 12:28

Flowersfor you op,you're getting a hard time on here.
I do understand what you're trying to say, that this woman was judging you aggressively without bothering to look and see if your dog had 'been'.
I think you're right to be annoyed but I'd let it go!
Concentrate on getting your dog better and keeping him cool as you can😅..as I'm sure you are doing.
Complete nightmare keeping them cool, but I guess that's another thread😀can

MmmBlowholes · 23/07/2019 12:32

You need to calm down.

Cherrysoup · 23/07/2019 12:32

Yabu. I wouldnt be very polite if i thought an owner wasnt picking up after their dog.

MIdgebabe · 23/07/2019 12:35

Perhaps you are just feeling over sensitive with worry and being awake all night?

ProfessionalBullshitter · 23/07/2019 12:35

Stop being professionally offended by a perfectly reasonable interaction and take your dog to a vet ffs!

Mitzimaybe · 23/07/2019 12:37

OP: AIBU?
MN: Yes, YABU
OP: No I'm not.

GibbonLover · 23/07/2019 12:37

Couldn't you have just shouted 'False alarm!'? Job done (pardon the pun).

LimitIsUp · 23/07/2019 12:37

If you don't like impolite interactions (who does?), I guess you're not enjoying this thread OP Flowers

KnittingForMittens · 23/07/2019 12:38

Calm down Hun.

BrutusMcDogface · 23/07/2019 12:38
