Anyone else lives another life in their head?

I daydream of another lifestyle everyday. In the evening I search for a flat for my imaginary life.
I love my kid, I live in a small but decent flat, in a clean city but I'm not very inspired. So I imagine days out on my own or meeting with interesting people,etc...
Anyone else?

I do this when I am trying to fall asleep - had no idea anyone else did!
I actually have two "stories".
One is me being an old lady who has had a very full life (not always happy, she was a Japanese internee - I think this is based on my neighbour when I was little who was a POW, and an enduring love of Tenko).
In the other, I am a hugely successful actress who had retired to do good deeds.

I’m married to an utterly gorgeous professional sportsman.

I was momentarily devastated the other day when I read on Twitter that his wife gave birth to their first son a few days ago. Then remembered that my relationship with him isn’t fucking real.

My ‘other life’ actually started from a real incident where I met him in a hotel bar. In my mind, that was the start of our love story (not an affair because he’s Too Nice for that). What actually happened was he paid his bill at the bar next to where I was sitting. And yes. He’s more gorgeouser in real life than on the Telly.

@MardAsSnails Sounds like my marriage to the Korean actor! I even spent 15 minutes stalking his IG account, which I dont understand at all as it;s all in Korean :/ Anyhoo, he is so obscure that could not even find info if he has a wife, so probably will never break my heart in this way hahaha.

alittleprivacy · 31/07/2019 18:06

I’m in a long distance relationship with Keanu Reeves. He’d love me to live with him permanently but respects my decision to put my DS’s stability first as his own mother had several marriages through his childhood. Luckily despite our relationship being long distance, he’s somehow always in my city!Grin

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 31/07/2019 18:07

@unnocksreturns2019 I am so much more witty in my alternative life than I am in real life! Sometimes feeling so very pleased with something particularly funny my alter ego said ^^

Gladiolus45 · 31/07/2019 20:50

Yes I have always done this as long as I can remember whenever I have a free moment. I have a whole raft of characters and plots some developed over many years, some played out once and discarded.

I never talk to anyone about it IRL.

Barbie222 · 31/07/2019 21:04

In my head sometimes, I'm married to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and raise livestock happily on a smallholding with lots of dogs. I knit him extra jumpers.

Crotchgoblins · 31/07/2019 21:18

I am a definite daydreamer but I feel I need to develop them a bit reading others responses! Mine change quite a bit and are sometimes quite dark, like a life I wouldn't want to live.

Someone mentioned washing up starting them off and I get this too, when you are on autopilot I do my best deeper thinking and dreaming.

Surely this is how authors create fictional worlds?

For those who don't do this/ get it, It's like a treat to go off into your own world and be emerged. Watching films, computer games, reading books are all.other people world's to escape into.

jamoncrumpet · 31/07/2019 21:22

I do this and have done since I was bullied at school at the age of 15. It always comforted me and made me feel safe. I still do it sometimes, though not anywhere near the extent I did as a young adult.

My main ‘other life’ does involve my kids and partner, it’s just my ‘when I’m rich’ life.

Although I have a couple of ‘other lives’ that are totally separate to this one.

Also do this mostly when going to sleep or when walking home. In mine I'm usually a famous actress or singer, usually I've starred in tv shows and films that unlike or sing songs that I'm listening to. I plan out my music videos and interviews or the eventual documentary of my life. I'm in a relationship with a terribly handsome other actor who is also my co-star, but it's a secret...

Yes! Grin

Tomkinz · 03/08/2019 17:32

Deffo - and I'm a bloke.

Generally involves Kate Moss or Amy Adams. Sometimes both at the same time...

quitefranklyivehadenough · 03/08/2019 17:38

Frequently late at night. I'm living in a house about half a mile away that I pass daily IRL walking my dog. My land rover discovery sport is parked on the drive. I'm about 7 stone lighter and immaculately dressed and constantly tanned from our many holidays! I can't complain TOO much about my real life apart from partner being a thoughtless dick at times and currently on hols in Tenerife. Live in a nice house with mostly lovely children (apart from dickhead teenager moments at times).
Didn't know so many people did this! I've found my people 👍

breaconoptimist · 03/08/2019 17:45

Ha I thought that was the point of fiction, that you’re imagining yourself in other lives. See also online property window shopping. I’ve had entire conversations with people in my head whereas actual conversations rarely go in expected directions.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/08/2019 17:48

About a million but I also write novels as a hobby

Moominfan · 03/08/2019 17:49

Yes, not so much now but there was a time I spent a lot of time in my head. My therapist said it's maladaptive day dreaming, way of responding trauma by taking myself away. I'd love when I get an idea for a new day dream. Could be embarrassing though when people caught me talking to myself or randomly laughing

Offred2 · 03/08/2019 18:05

Yes, I've done this since I was at least 10 years old! I'm currently living in the US with my millionaire rock star husband and kids, and am extremely slim and beautiful (obviously).

A random question to all of you out there who also do this: have you ever been hypnotised and did your 'other life' come out in any way???

I have a severe-ish phobia and I am considering trying hypnotherapy to see if that can cure it. But a small part of me is concerned that if I were hypnotised all my indepth daydreams could come to the surface and I'd talk about my daydream life as though it were real. Which would obviously take some explaining!

BiBiBirdie · 03/08/2019 18:22

In mine, I'm a successful television actress, I have three daughters and I'm married to Olly Murrs. I live in a beautiful house and have another house in LA with Robbie as my neighbour and we may or may not be having an affair.

It all started as a child when I hated my life so much and felt nothing from my parents but contempt. The people involved change but I'm very much loved in it regardless.

I'm petrified to own up to it as even I know it's weird but it's a compulsive thing now.

toffee1000 · 03/08/2019 18:35

I’ve been doing this for years. Currently I have a German boyfriend/DH (it’s not really a linear story, more like bits and bobs with the same characters) and we have twin DDs who we are raising to be bilingual. He’s a redhead like me. I’m not entirely sure how we met, perhaps at work.
In the past I’ve invented relationships with people who actually exist, but this current imaginary relationship is with someone entirely imaginary Grin

gonewiththepotter · 03/08/2019 18:37

Oh god yes I do this all the time. Especially atm as signed off with HG!

Yamayo · 03/08/2019 19:03

Sometimes when I miraculously leave the house looking decent I do a rundown in my head of what I'm wearing/accessories/shoes like they do in celebrity articles in magazines... Grin

LouH1981 · 03/08/2019 19:15

Yup, mainly involving my husband James Franco and I....
