Ours came from an ad on Pets4homes. Had no idea this wasn’t good. Dog has been fine though.

Protecting Preloved Border Collies rescue charity

TixieLix · 16/07/2019 18:34

From a breeder. We specifically wanted a golden retriever, having had two previously, so sought one out that was due puppies. We met our girl when she was one week old nd collected her at 8 weeks. She'll be 8 this year.

GreyhoundzRool · 16/07/2019 18:34

A specific greyhound rescue charity

Alwaysgrey · 16/07/2019 18:34

I’m now mortified but pets 4 homes. I know how bad this is and feel awful now I’m more informed. We looked at rescues but have two kids with special needs but didn’t have any luck. He’s an amazing dog though.

PookieDo · 16/07/2019 18:34

A relative who wasn’t coping

Hoppinggreen · 16/07/2019 18:34

Puppy farm ( obviously we didn’t know at the time)
Lots of hard work and £ and he’s great though

Stressedout10 · 16/07/2019 18:35

Local rescue centre

Metaplasia · 16/07/2019 18:35

Friend's dog had a litter, they were cute, took one home. Parents health tested, KC registered etc. If I ever got another one I'd adopt an older dog probably. Puppies are adorable but an absolute nightmare.

coconuttelegraph · 16/07/2019 18:35

From a breeder, why would anyone not answer honestly, is there a wrong place to get your dog?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 16/07/2019 18:35

A breeder. One I met at a breed show.

2cats2many · 16/07/2019 18:36

Both came from different rescues.

Lovelyhotday · 16/07/2019 18:37

Very carefully researched breeder, I have a Dalmatian and wanted to be absolutely sure of impeccable health checks.

EdWinchester · 16/07/2019 18:37

From a registered breeder.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 16/07/2019 18:37

One from Friends of the animals RCT, a reputable rescue in South Wales, the other from a 'free to good home' ad on Gumtree. I took with the plan to get her into a safe rescue. She's still here 5 yearslater.

Previous dogs were a rescue outside Manchester and the Dog's Trust in West Lothian (I'm in Scotland). Previous cats were from Edinburgh Dog and Cat home.

I will never, ever pay a breeder for a pet animal while there are still animals in rescues needing homes as I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. We always find the right dog for us in a rescue, even if it involves some travel.

I'm currently considering getting my first snake, but it will also come from a rescue if I go ahead.

DieCryHate · 16/07/2019 18:38

Pets4homes. They were a registered breeder though with all the usual boxes ticked like meeting mum (and granny dog!) at the house, contact details and info on the dad, hip and eye scores, lineage etc. They did a phone interview and meet at their house first to vet us. We still email them now, lovely people.

We had scoured all the local rescues but none would consider us because of their no child under 8 rule. Totally understand why they do that but we didn't want to wait 7 years to get a dog when we were in a great position to have one.

Wouldn't be without our silly fluffy boy.

coconut - because on here it’s breeders or rescues.

In rl I don’t know anybody who got their dog from either place.

Coconut, there are a few unsavoury ways in which you could acquire a dog.

Unscrupulous breeders, for a start.

adaline · 16/07/2019 18:40

Breeder. We're still in touch eighteen months later.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/07/2019 18:40

One from a farm, litter was advertised in horse tack shop, one from a breeder and the other from a rescue centre

EleanorLavish · 16/07/2019 18:40

Usually my parents bought from proper pedigree people.
But after last dog died, they weren’t sure about getting another as getting on. But brother knew someone who was having a litter due to a dalliance when no one was looking... so we ended up with the sweetest, terrier mongrel type. He is 7 now and the best dog we ever had, so uncomplicated. Love him to bits.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 16/07/2019 18:40

Pets4homes site,he was the last pup left at the breeders and I fell in love there and then

Elliebellbell · 16/07/2019 18:41

Greyhound sanctuary. We tried dogs trust but I wasn't impressed with them at all.
