Ours came from an ad on Pets4homes. Had no idea this wasn’t good. Dog has been fine though.

I would be really unhappy with signing a contract saying the dog would go back to the breeder if anything happened.

Local rspca shelter.

Without wanting to sound like a cliche, he chose me! I hadnt really imagined i would ever have a staffie but I wouldn’t be without him now :)

TessTackle · 16/07/2019 19:16

We stole him 🤷🏽‍♀️

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 16/07/2019 19:17

Don’t understand why you would have an issue with that wow, breeders who do this are trying to stop the dogs they have bred from ending up in rescue centres and adding to the high numbers already there.

Sweetbabycheezits · 16/07/2019 19:18

Our JRT is from pets4homes, as well. Was a local farmer whose 2 working dogs had litters at the same time. Lovely farmer...just wanted the wee pups homed to families, didn't charge an extortionate amount, the parent dogs both lovely. Our was the runty one...and she is the sweetest, friendliest dog ever! We wanted a puppy because our DC were only little then, so we were a bit nervous about getting a rescue.

A breeder who I initially got in contact with through the breed club the. Met her later at a dog show.

MrsCasares · 16/07/2019 19:19

Dogs trust. We’re his third home. We’re his forever home.

wowowwow · 16/07/2019 19:20

monica I’ve no issues with being asked but I do have an issue with being told.

What if I knew my friend or family would be fine for him?

First dog came from a proper kc reg breeder, my current two from a local lady that had a litter from each of her dogs but saw ad on pets4homes, she wasn't a puppy farmer just someone who wanted to breed each of her bitches just the once, and I didn't want a 'pedigree' she was lovely and I regularly visited the pups before bringing them home (different litters at different times) and I would do it like that again, if I wasn't happy I would and could walk away.

I wouldn'/couldn't have a rescue dog as I rent and when I enquire they wouldn't rehome to me and because I had young children visiting they wouldn't and because I have cats they wouldn't and it seemed any excuse not to.

Plus I rehomed my cats as kittens from a very well known 'rescue' they were so ill with flu and calici virus I thought I would lose them on several occasions and the rescue couldn't have given a hoot, and I presume blocked my number as they never picked up after I informed them that they had a virulent flu bug in their cattery, but I now have two fab cats that have cost me fortune and are virtually toothless but touch wood pretty healthy now.

www.loveyourlabrador.co.uk

Labrador Rescue South East and Central. I would always, always, always get a rescue dog.

drinkswineoutofamug · 16/07/2019 19:20

Out of a bastards cellar . So a rescue

Steamfan · 16/07/2019 19:21

from a local greyhound rescue - she's the second one we've had from them, and she's a complete nitwit!

IsobelRae23 · 16/07/2019 19:22

D1) Free Ads someone could not manage a large breed d2) she found us, and no body claimed her, so she lived with us for 10 years.

Alloftit · 16/07/2019 19:22

Got him off a relative, for free. He’d been given the whole litter (8 week old cockapoos) as a part payment on a trailer or something. Dodgy as all hell. But AllDog is the most wonderful little guy and I love him very much.

Before that, I had tried and tried to get approved to rehome a dog and been turned down so many times, all down to the fact I was in rented and might have wanted kids in the future. This was 6 years ago or so, and I’ve only moved once (AllDog came along too) and I still have no kids (yet 😂)

Soubriquet · 16/07/2019 19:23

Preloved

I ended up having to get one of them treated for mites as she was covered

BlueMerchant · 16/07/2019 19:23

Pets4homes.
I'd researched breed etc and read up on all training needs and how to look after ddog.
Sadly looking back I was very naive and although DD is absolutely perfect the ' breeder' hadn't done certain things that a true breeder would have. ie. Microchipping and other checks.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 16/07/2019 19:24

wow then your friend or family could have them, realistically it’s not legally enforceable it’s just a way for breeders to help ensure they don’t sell to people who will dispose of the animals like trash.

Honeyroar · 16/07/2019 19:26
  1. A friend's sister needed to rehome her lab.
  2. North west lab rescue.
  3. A Romanian rescue a friend runs.
  4. A Mumsnet thread!

Dog 2 was the only one we actually planned to get. The others all just happened.

Theghosttrain · 16/07/2019 19:28

From Preloved. We have previously always got dogs from a rescue, but something about this advert really got me. We are her 4th and last owners.

OzziePopPop · 16/07/2019 19:29

DogsFriends a rather lovely rescue centre in Somerset. They’re on Facebook and have a website. Yes I have worked for them as a volunteer foster carer in the past 😃💕🐶💕😃

If you can’t find them just google DogsFriends Somerset or ask and I’ll help. Due to disability I’m no longer fostering for them but all three of our dogs came from them, the eldest 8.5 years ago, youngest was fostered last July and adopted this year after lots of interest but no one snapping her up poor baby (I have a gsd x rottie and two Beagles)!

Floralnomad · 16/07/2019 19:30

Battersea London branch . He was a 15/16 week old stray , we just happened to turn up on the day he became available for rehoming - best £85 we’ve ever spent .

wowowwow · 16/07/2019 19:31

I get that monica

Point is like it or not when money is exchanged the puppy no longer belongs to the breeder.

OzziePopPop · 16/07/2019 19:32

P.s, they will review each application individually. Renting or children are NOT barriers to adoption. Mainly they regime within Bath, Bristol, Somerset etc though as any further afield means they can’t easily offer the lifetime support they always supply - they do make exceptions in some cases of hard to home dogs though 🐶😃🐶

mrscatmad31 · 16/07/2019 19:33

Haven't got a dog yet but thinking of getting a puppy from dogs trust next year
I worked as a vet nurse for years and believe me it's not worth getting a dog from either a reputable breeder or a rescue, helping to put down an 8 week old puppy from a puppy farm whilst the owners sob really drives this home! (There were many other cases but this one was always the one I remembered)
