Ours came from an ad on Pets4homes. Had no idea this wasn’t good. Dog has been fine though.

Gumtree. A woman rescued a little mongrel bitch and was told she was neutered. NOPE.

A big working spaniel got her in the park and the result was the oddest bunch of pups ever. One is mine and she is to die for 😍

Wrt to breeders wanting dogs back, my parents had a dog from a rescue centre who also made them sign something saying that if anything happened to them or they couldn't cope with him anymore the dog had to go back to the centre instead of family/friends.

waterallday · 16/07/2019 19:37

First one was found in the newspaper, we had to travel to get him (think he was puppy farmed Sad) second one on pets4homes.

Vivavivienne · 16/07/2019 19:37

I bred all of mine myself, except one bitch I imported from a well known kennel abroad, to add genetic variation to the UK population and add into my own breeding programme in due course.?

CazM2012 · 16/07/2019 19:39

A neighbour had an accidental (and yes I know it was as we witnessed it) litter, we fell in love with the smallest, scrawniest pup. He’s 1 now and a huge part of our family, we couldn’t be without him.

curlykaren · 16/07/2019 19:41

Nearly 18 years ago from gumtree. Looking back I'm fairly sure he was farmed. Still sniffing about my feet at dinner time but I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Lazypuppy · 16/07/2019 19:45

Kennel club registered breeder

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 16/07/2019 19:46

A skip. Someone had abandoned a puppy which my dh found and brought home. Our cat from the local rescue.

MadamePompadour · 16/07/2019 19:46

Greyhound rescue
Then next from a crufts winning breeder.
Next from pets4homes.....And she's the best dog I've had. Backyard breeder rather than a puppy farm as far as I could tell.

flowery · 16/07/2019 19:46

Pets4homes I think. A very well-established breeder had had him returned to her. She vetted us very thoroughly before letting him go, including insisting we brought the DC to meet him at her house so she could observe his reaction to them and vice versa.

He’s brilliant.

Paddingtonthebear · 16/07/2019 19:46

Pets4homes. I’m not thrilled about that but we didn’t want to get a puppy and we were turned down for rescue dogs (we had a child under 7 and we worked, although I only work part time. Not allowed to work at all apparently if you want to home a rescue dog).

She has worked out great. Her previous owner died and the family took her in temporarily but needed to rehome her due to having cats that were not compatible with the dog. All paperwork, vet records etc in order and handed over on arrival, and we took home a young, well trained, lovely dog . I wouldn’t do it again because I think we were lucky, it is risky.

Titsywoo · 16/07/2019 19:49

We got ours from Bulldog Rescue.

Tallgreenbottle · 16/07/2019 19:50

Erm isn't gumtree only about 12/14yrs old?@curlykaren

Singlenotsingle · 16/07/2019 19:51

Pets 4 Homes. The breeder wasnt registered and ddog wasn't KC registered. However, apart from developing cherry eye a few months later, she's fine. 3 and a half years old now

Lovelyhotday · 16/07/2019 19:55

wow I was fine with it, it actually reassured me that if something dreadfully unforseen happened within the family that at least I knew the dog would be ok. It's not enforceable I'm sure but it gave us both peace of mind. We're still in touch and I'm on FB with the breeder and all the sibling pup owners from the same litter. I know for a fact that they took back one of the males at 18 months old as his owner sadly became quite unwell, she kept him until she found a suitable new owner. She paid for all the pups to be tested for deafness at Newmarket, hip scored and had them all chipped. She's on the end of the phone for any problems, the epitome of a responsible breeder.

Lovelyhotday · 16/07/2019 19:57

wow What if I knew my friend or family would be fine for him? I'm sure that would have been very open to discussion.

fleshmarketclose · 16/07/2019 19:57

Local rescue, saw her photo on the daily email from here

Yawninfinitum · 16/07/2019 19:58

Local rescue

Would never ever have bought from a website or breeder

Far too many unwanted dogs needing homes

beccarocksbaby · 16/07/2019 19:59

Ours was from a friend whose dogs bred. Purebred litter and I fell in love. She's still an amazing dog two years later.

People don't realise that pets4homes is largely puppy mills, I don't judge but I try and gently educate.

MQv2 · 16/07/2019 20:03

Rescue from the ispca (Irish)

His mum was found in a ditch a few days before her litter came so we've had him since he was a puppy.
He's two now

justasking111 · 16/07/2019 20:04

Always had working dogs, so word of mouth as to who has a litter locally, until I wanted a sprocker a working one, found our nutcase on pets4homes. Was quite local, met mum and other puppies at their smallholding. He has had teeth problems which is common with spaniels apart from that healthy as a horse.

Catypillar · 16/07/2019 20:05

Springer Rescue Scotland. DS1 was 5 at the time so they brought a dog on the home visit to see how he interacted with it- they have no cut off age for children. Our dog had been fostered in a home with children for a few weeks before we got her so they knew she was ok with children.

If you're in Scotland and want a bouncy, fun dog I would highly recommend them.

wowowwow · 16/07/2019 20:08

Yeah but lovely - it shouldn’t be a discussion. Once the dog belongs to me I should be the one making that decision.
