I sold a friend a car 18 months ago for £200. It wasnt the newest car (mid 00s plate) but it was totally reliable and was fine for what she wanted (literally a run around to get to/from shops). I looked after it well and it sailed through its first MOT with her with only a wiper blade needing changing. She had the MOT last week and it’s failed in a big way. Saying it’s a write off... I have advised first she tries a garage that isn’t Kwikfit but... she’s asking for the money back aibu to tell her to fuck off?! she’s had 18 completely trouble free months for a £200 car!

YANBU-Frankly 18 months for £200 is very good going! Even if it wasn't, you has a contract, she cant change her mind just because things turned out badly for her. Buying a used car is always a risk as they can be unpredictable in terms of lifespan. It's how it goes.

My dh bought a 15 years old car he does a lot of miles and lasted 12 months after it needed repairs worth more than car so scraped it . Most cars lucky to have a 3 month warranty at that age so it was just one of those things . I'd email her cars for sale the same age so she can see what a bargain she had .

Pissed me right off as we buy any car offered me £800 for it and that would have been less hassle

18 months of car use for £200 is sweet! I recently sold my mid 00s car for 1k after buying for 2k 3 years ago. I've spent several 100 on it and still felt happy with the cost per year.
