To think friend is being U about car

lastqueenofscotland · 15/07/2019 19:14

I sold a friend a car 18 months ago for £200. It wasnt the newest car (mid 00s plate) but it was totally reliable and was fine for what she wanted (literally a run around to get to/from shops). I looked after it well and it sailed through its first MOT with her with only a wiper blade needing changing. She had the MOT last week and it’s failed in a big way. Saying it’s a write off... I have advised first she tries a garage that isn’t Kwikfit but... she’s asking for the money back Confused aibu to tell her to fuck off?! she’s had 18 completely trouble free months for a £200 car!

*big

Witchofzog · 15/07/2019 20:50

She is unbelievable!! What did she say op?

falafelaboutit · 15/07/2019 20:59

Wow this is CF on a whole new level

Nottobesoldseparately · 15/07/2019 21:10

Tell her yes no problem, but you will have to charge her a hire fee.

£10 a week should cover it!

Cheeky bloody cow.

chuttypicks · 15/07/2019 21:13

WOW!! Just WOW!! She's no sort of friend. Please tell her you assume she's joking as that would be ridiculous!!!! And if she doesn't admit that she's kidding then she's no friend of yours op and you need to fuck her off.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 15/07/2019 21:31

It's really hard to write a reply because I just keep thinking "But she...but you..what REALLY?"
She does realise that she didn't buy a car subscription, like a magazine where they send you a new one every so often? She's either joking or really not very well.

Etino · 15/07/2019 21:33

Yanbu at all!
Your friend however...

Chloemol · 15/07/2019 21:33

You always buy second hand cars as is, she got a good deal for however long, it’s now her problem. How long did she think the car would last for at £200

cstaff · 15/07/2019 21:35

Does your friend read mumsnet. Maybe she was trying to make it on to the CFs page. Otherwise there is no explanation. Grin

Munchkingoat · 15/07/2019 21:54

This is one of the threads that should have a vote button!!

Utterly utterly she IBU. I spent years buying bangers for around the £200-500 mark - if they lasted onger than a year we were chuffed!

HappyLoneParentDay · 16/07/2019 11:14

Show her this thread!

FuriousCheekyFucker · 16/07/2019 11:22

I'm a Furious Cheeky Fucker and I award your friend CF of the month, July 2019.

Brefugee · 16/07/2019 11:23

tell her to try WBAC...

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/07/2019 11:25

Hilarious. She’s deluded.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/07/2019 11:31

She is totally taking the piss. Just tell her that it passed the first MOT, so it failing the second one is down to her not taking adequate care of it in between. And she is a massively cheeky fucker!

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2019 11:36

I'd bite anyone's arm off if offered 18 months virtually cost free motoring in a £200 car. She could probably get at least half that money back if she sold it to a scrapyard.

She's either a CF or very naive about the realities of car ownership. Some people seem to not expect to spend any money on a car at all and then moan about 'unexpected' costs any time something breaks. And YY to not using Kwikfit.

Penners99 · 16/07/2019 11:43

Is she on glue!!???? CF of the first order.

ItWentInMyEye · 16/07/2019 11:56

Wow 😂 YADNBU

PeachMoon · 16/07/2019 12:34

This might be the cheeky fuckeriest thing I have ever come across, she's bonkers!

rightteous · 16/07/2019 12:38

Wow. So when would it not be your problem? When she’d had it 5 years? 10 years? You aren’t Ford motor company! Even then she’d only have a 12 month warranty! She’s being incredibly unreasonable. I can’t believe she thinks she’s in the right!! The moment she drove it off your driveway your liability was over. She has zero legal recourse and any solicitor would laugh her out of the room

rightteous · 16/07/2019 12:38

Please update us with any of her replies. She sounds like a nutter

Pinktinker · 16/07/2019 12:40

Taking the piss. She’s clearly not looked after the car well or it’s just on its way out naturally. Either way, she’s a total CF and you don’t owe her a dime. What does she expect from a £200 car really?

mussolini9 · 16/07/2019 12:44

How long does she expect a 15 year old car to last ?

I expect my 15-year old car to last me at least another 5 years.
Although I also expect to keep spending money on it to keep it roadworthy & functional. And I will not be bitching at the vendor when it finally bites the bullet ...
OP, has your 'friend' got form for being an unreasonable, demanding bitch?

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 16/07/2019 12:48

18 months and it passed the 1st MOT?
She is completely taking the piss.

She is the one who destroyed it between the 2 MOT.
What the hell did she expect from a £200 car anyway? My bicycle costs more than that!

cstaff · 16/07/2019 14:18

What the hell did she expect from a £200 car anyway? My bicycle costs more than that!

This x 100.

Seriously OP I presume you have told her to fuck off. Please come back and update us. I can't wait to hear her reaction.

I would never normally tell someone to show their friends / partners the thread but in this case it is unanimous and it might shove some sense into her, but if she is that much of a CF maybe not.
