To think Quorn mince made me feel really sick last night

We eat quite a lot of quote in our house, love the cocktail sausages, the chicken bits that I put in curries, the nuggets (yum!) and the mince.

Last night I made a quorn spag Bol pasta bake, it was really good and as I hardly eat pasta I did admittedly stuff my face eat quite a lot.

About 2 hours later I suddenly felt extremely nauseous. I wasn’t sick but felt as though it was going to be. I had quite an upset stomach (sorry) and ended up going to bed with a cramping stomach. I still feel a bit dodgy this morning. Anyone else had this? Could it be the quorn?

Yes definitely. You can be allergic to soya or tofu. It makes my DH vomit violently. Sad

Londonbum · 07/07/2019 10:35

Yep I react horribly to Quorn, vomiting and diarrhoea. It’s absolutely grim.

ShetlandWife · 07/07/2019 10:35

Its possible, but two hours isn't long for that kind of reaction. I would be looking at what you've eaten in the last couple of days rather than just the last couple of hours.

Uselessname · 07/07/2019 10:40

I am violently sick around two hours after eating quorn. The last time I accidentally ate a piece around the size of my little fingernail I was sick with shivers, sweats, dizziness the lot for about five hours straight. The stuff is hideous!

QueenMabby · 07/07/2019 10:52

I’m the same with quorn. About 2 hours after eating I get violent stomach cramps and then diarrhoea. Grim.

littlepooch · 07/07/2019 10:55

Yep I'm the same with Quorn. So is my dad.

orangeshoebox · 07/07/2019 10:57

I get bad cramps from it as well. also starts about 2 hours after the meal.
but it's unusual as you have eaten quorn products before without ill effects.

Freaking0ut · 07/07/2019 10:57

Ooh that’s interesting about the two hour thing. And it just suddenly came on, one minute I was fine, the next I thought I was going to puke.

Weirdly, I can eat a fairly impressive number of the cocktail sausages without any problems. I wonder if it’s something about the mince? Or the frozen things?

Quorn is bloody awful for those of us sensitive to it, and two hours is exactly the time it takes @ShetlandWife . Google quorn sensitivity, there's acres of information on it.

katewhinesalot · 07/07/2019 10:59

How can it be good for you if so many get this reaction?

Freaking0ut · 07/07/2019 11:00

katewhinesalot this is what I’m thinking, it seems to be very common to be very unwell from it. I had been buying it in an attempt to reduce our meat consumption but think I will give it a swerve from now on. And will stop feeding it to my kids too.

nuttybutter · 07/07/2019 11:01

It is a processed food at the end of the day.

Nautiloid · 07/07/2019 11:05

I get stomach pains after eating Quorn mince. Still eat it though!

LoisLittsLover · 07/07/2019 11:08

You also said that.you don't generally eat much pasta - iif i have been low carbing for a bit and then go carb mad, i feel as you have described. Just another possibility

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/07/2019 11:10

Isn't the mince made out of that nasty fake stuff with big words?

Not tofu but something else. I read about it on here a few years ago.
Evil stuff. It's not uncommon for it to make you ill.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/07/2019 11:11

Mycoprotein

That's not tofu. What the fuck is that?

katewhinesalot · 07/07/2019 11:12

I've been buying it for the same reasons as you op. Maybe I'll continue to take my chances with meat.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/07/2019 11:13

health concerns indeed...

MeganChips · 07/07/2019 11:16

This happens to DH, it makes him very ill in exactly the same time frame.

He’d happily eaten quorn for years before he became intolerant to it. It’s very prevalent and there is loads of information out there.

I’m not intolerant but I don’t eat it either or allow the DCs it anymore just in case.

yy558 · 07/07/2019 11:20

Sausages would have more flour or other agent in to bind it, I'd imagine. Whereas mince would be more of the pure format?

Could be that you're intolerant of it.

CharityConundrum · 07/07/2019 11:22

@katewhinesalot

How can it be good for you if so many get this reaction?

You could say the same about milk, nuts, wheat or indeed anything that a lot of people are allergic or intolerant of. For those who don't have a problem, quorn is fine!

katewhinesalot · 07/07/2019 11:23

I'm not sure that link is of much help Grin

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/07/2019 11:41

Ha!! I'm not sure what happened there!

netflixlove · 07/07/2019 11:55

I had the same a while ago OP! And I'd eaten quorn mince for ages beforehand- 40mins after eating a bolognese I had the worst stomach cramps and D! Haven't eaten it since.

Apparently it's not very good for you at all!

Teddybear45 · 07/07/2019 12:00

If you regularly eat quorn with no issues it’s more likely to be something you ate before that meal. Food poisoning can take 4-6 hours to show symptoms.
