To think Quorn mince made me feel really sick last night

We eat quite a lot of quote in our house, love the cocktail sausages, the chicken bits that I put in curries, the nuggets (yum!) and the mince.

Last night I made a quorn spag Bol pasta bake, it was really good and as I hardly eat pasta I did admittedly stuff my face eat quite a lot.

About 2 hours later I suddenly felt extremely nauseous. I wasn’t sick but felt as though it was going to be. I had quite an upset stomach (sorry) and ended up going to bed with a cramping stomach. I still feel a bit dodgy this morning. Anyone else had this? Could it be the quorn?

Also thanks for all the recommendations for alternatives! I love a mushroom so maybe that’s the way forward Grin

Katewhinesalot - Yes you can refreeze Quorn once you have cooked it. I have done this loads of times, just make sure it is defrosted thoroughly before using it.

Mamamia456 · 07/07/2019 20:12

I mean defrosting thoroughly the Bolognese that you have put in the freezer.

SouthWestmom · 07/07/2019 20:23

A couple of years ago I had four weeks of d and v and realised it was happening every time I had quorn. Previously no issues with it but I had a bug and after that it happened all the time.

Kids still have it 2-3 times a week

katewhinesalot · 07/07/2019 20:26

Thanks mama

I can’t eat Quorn at all it makes me horrendously sick! Proper vomiting and diarrhoea and pretty much the same as everyone else it’s after 2-3 hours after eating it.

I even emailed them too as when the new packaging came out it was all ‘gluten free’ (I’m coeliac) and I thought great I’ll give it a go but had an awful stomach afterwards. I thought it was something to do with being Coeliac so emailed them, they never answered but I realised with the help of google it’s actually a really common thing.

It’s not just the mince for me but the white chicken replacement too!

Speechless that i have found this thread
I thought I was the only one.

2 hours after eating quorn, I have had the most violent vomiting I have ever experienced for 24 hours. Morning sickness was a walk in the park compared with it.

It’s happened three times (it took me to the third to realise)

Now, I can’t even look at the packaging in shops. If I even think About it, I feel a wave of nausea.

Anyone else suffer this lingering association. I want to be able to work past a shelf of quorn without thinking I’m going to vomit on the spot!

Sounds daft… but I have low level nausea even writing this, because it’s made me think about…. Quorn!

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 02/10/2021 19:33

Lentils lentil lentils lentils

I have them about 5x a week. Lentil stew, celery onion garlic red pepper mushroom and paprika chopped tomatoes and veg stock
Heaven

Also jackfruit is really good. Red onion and butternut squash with nixed beans

CreepyPasta · 02/10/2021 19:33

Yes I get this with quorn and also with quinoa. Apparently it’s something to do with how the body processes a type of protein in them both.

underneaththeash · 02/10/2021 19:33

You may as well eat a turkey swizzler OP, over processed crap!

It's actually common to have a reaction to it. I know number of people who had quite violent reactions
mum2jakie · 02/10/2021 19:39

I find most brown Quorn (mince and burgers etc) gives me diarrhoea the following morning. I tend to avoid it but will eat it very occasionally (barbecue etc.) I had a Quorn lasagne ready meal a year or so again and I was in absolutely agony a couple of hours later with stomach cramps! I genuinely thought I'd got something wrong with me and needed an ambulance. Haven't touched the stuff since.

KeyWorker · 02/10/2021 22:11

It’s quite common, I know a few people who become ill 2-3 hours after eating quorn.

Sagaris · 02/10/2021 22:45

Yep, I'm the same too - really bad stomach pains a couple of hours after eating it - worse than appendicitis! And waves of nausea.......
I'm the same with mushrooms too.Hmm

Scoutingformygirls · 02/10/2021 22:52

I have this. Really, really bad diarrhoea of we use the mince.

I'm fine with the chicken pieces, nuggets and savoury eggs though!

Kittii · 02/10/2021 22:52

It's pretty horrible processed stuff. Read the ingredients!

Pedalpushers · 02/10/2021 22:53

This is really interesting, I have IBS and eat quorn all the time no issue, whereas I only have to look at a lentil and I'm in agony for days.

ZittiEBuoni · 02/10/2021 22:55

I can't eat quorn - was fine with it for a year or so then my body said nope.

PinkiOcelot · 02/10/2021 22:55

I can’t eat quorn at all. It makes me violently sick. I presumed it was the fungi in it. It’s horrible stuff.

ISpyCobraKai · 02/10/2021 22:56

It's awful stuff, it had me on the loo with crippling pains for hours until I'd shit out my entire insides.
I've read posts of people saying their partner/kids/friends couldn't tell it wasn't meat and it makes me really cross.
I'll try anything, but I want to know what I'm trying.

BoogieFeet · 02/10/2021 22:58

I’m the same - can eat quorn sausages and fake chicken pieces (although I’d rather not) but I get a bad reaction a couple of hours after the mince so I will no longer eat it.

ISpyCobraKai · 02/10/2021 22:59

@Sagaris
I'm also intolerant to mushrooms.
A small amount is ok, but more than that and my body will repel them.
Same with eggs.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 02/10/2021 23:06

I am also allergic to it. My daughter is too. The reason we know this is bought some and had a lovely meal together followed by sickness and the poops at the same time. Not the best mother daughter day Sad we have spent together.

goldfinchfan · 02/10/2021 23:08

Quorn makes me violently sick too.

It is made from a fungus and I am allerfic to mould and fungus so in my casr that is the reason.
It is a highly processed food.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 02/10/2021 23:09

So it’s just a fungus in a box that makes us all shit then.
